Rabaul airport and Tavurvur

This video was taken 2007 when I went home to Papua New Guinea and onto Rabaul my home town to visit my mother. While there I decided to check out Tavurvur. Here I am standing on what use to be the airport and quite scared becuase every 10 seconds or so we would hear what sounded like a jet engine getting for take off. Scary! It was the volcano getting ready to blow out more dark clouds. All around us was ashes and almost like a ghost town. It was really sad too see desert of ashes all around and on top of what use to be a magnificent little Rabaul airport. Also quite sad was seeing the destruction the twin volcano eruptions had done to my people and their way of life.

Hard to believe that this use to be the airport where I first arrived in 1964.
