Everyone's talking about how powerful and beautiful bulldozer is, but the track of the French children playfully singing with ambient music playing is exactly what this album is for me. It is the essence of what makes life worth living. Family, play and art.
Check out their 2010-12-05 "Nightmare Before Christmas" performance. It's such a beautiful explosion of sound it's hard to imagine it didn't blast the audience off their feet.
I wish I could've been there in 2000, along with the rest of the internet, having just listened to this hot off the press, decoding all of the album's mysteries and dissecting it's beauty on some now-defunct music discussion board.
i always imagine an old person, sitting on the couch in early morning, maybe watching television or reading a magazine, they look up to find 4-5 angels staring at them, silent. the imaginary camera points back at the couch, the person is gone, and so are the angels
The most powerful outro, for one or the most powerful albums of all time, probably two words can come into my mind when I think of this album: perfection and hope.
Few modern projects have mastered this, but I would put Godspeed's genius here and on other albums up to rival Crimson or Floyd, at least in their mastery of textures and real meaning in the music.
Godspeed devout here. From years back. This is what the band wanted to achieve here. This entire piece. Still nothing compares to this for me after 17.5 years of release.
As a fellow longtime fan I have to agree that this piece represents the pinnacle of their artistry. Less bombast and more subtlety (and don't get me wrong I love when they do bombast too). It has an elegiac quality and so many varied textures. I never tire of it and it never fails to make me well up at its sheer beauty.
I've listened to a lot of music, but if I had to pick a favorite song of all time, it would be this one. Hands down. Its portrayal of the end of the world is just so indescribably vivid whilst being so abstract.
@@realalienheheI think the point of the album is that it portrays the life of a troubled person, formerly a troubled world. This track would be its own death, some may consider it hopeless and/or depressing, and some (including me) may consider it hopeful and without regrets. The whole album is about that, hope!
This track and album is absolutely phenomenal. Thank you for all your comments its a joy to read them and know others experience this track in the same way I do.
Jesus christ that build up at the end of Bulldozer kills me every time. It's like your life rapidly flashing before your eyes as you prepare to leave your loved ones. It's a beautiful series of images...
7:11 - 11:58 slays me emotionally. It's like I'm on the verge of suicide but then my mind reminisces about all the good things that happened to me in life that I can't help but feel nostalgic and cry.
Then why doesn't the track end there? You already know why. It isn't about bringing you back from the brink. There is no brink. Everything is as rotten, shitty, unfair as you thought. And most likely, your inability to handle it, to handle life itself, is of your own construct. Fuck you. I cant enjoy a few minutes of beautiful music in a familiar genre without adding a suicide/family death story to the comment section?
In my case my 14-15 years were spent on nothing. Just sitting in front of a computer and being sad. Not even a crazy story to tell, no friends. My body is falling apart. Somehow this album is the highlight and I feel like my life will never be as exciting as music like this. So it feels wrong playing something this insane in casual life from a phone speaker, but I do not have anything else... Edit 1 year later: All is good, feeling very well, music still great. Don't despair and HOPE
this part makes me to instantly start dancing, no matter the place, if somehow I'm at a fairly public place, at least I stop for a minute and dance in my mind... it is without fail for sure...
The guitar solo in this song works so well with the song as a whole. So much so that I'm only perceiving it as a guitar solo after years of loving this album.
This track didn't hit me with the immediacy as some of the others did , but when it did strike it was to the marrow. The last few minutes are transcendental.
kawaiikrew representative What kind of God I've been attacked by evil spirits from new AGE DECEPTION which I found to be DEMONIC and I've always had faith in Christ but I'm scared that maybe he is fake or evil Because Satan is more powerful due to all the world leaders empowering him and other demons ever since I tried opening the third eye and seen a horrifying looking face and weird signs of dark through number synchronizations avoid Paganism
I remember when I heard this so many years ago. I was like "wow, this type of music exists?" And it was my intro into post-rock. It's my favourite track on the album. I haven't heard this in years but I remember all the ins and outs. Thanks for uploading it.
Absolutely gorgeous; sparkling. Impressive in scope, ambition, and progression of tone. Cannot listen on repeat for fear of shattering its delicacy, but must return periodally.
I listened to this for the first time yesterday all the way through. By the time this part came on, I was in parts of my brain I'd never tread before. I was thinking about the cruelty of the world, and how I live outside it due to my luck of the genetic draw pertaining as to what body my soul would reside in. I felt I was unknowingly cruel, and felt terrible about it, and how ignorant I am. I still feel this way. However, when 5:30 came up, I was able to forget that for a while. Such a release from the tension that was built.
Look up the 2010/12/05 "Nightmare Before Christmas" show. Has to be one of their best live performances and that particular part of "She Dreamt..." is just... indescribable. It *explodes*. Feels like my head would burst open if I'd been there to hear it.
People keep saying "this part is awesome" or "this makes me cry" at vastly different times... Can't we just all agree that the entire song is a masterpiece?
If I'm the only one who thinks that Glockenspiel Duet Recorded on a Campsite in Rhinebeck, N.Y. at 1:58 is the best piece on this album, then so be it. I looped myself the 2:06-2:17 part and I could listen to it for hours
Hey sonikkuffffff, thanks for posting these songs up. I just listened to all 4 songs...and it was my first time as well. I'm usually off put my songs longer than 10-12 minutes, but I bit the bullet and finally went for it, and I'm glad I did. This was quite lovely indeed. So, um....thanks for being awesome and stuff.
I just listened to the entire album. Seriously, when it is 3 in the morning and you ran out of marijuana, this is the perfect album to listen to as if you were high. The album is a very underrated masterpiece, I'd say. Every listen reveals something new to be intrigued by, and for albums such as this, it can surprise you throughout every layered arrangement of music. Sorry if I sound pretentious, but this album only gets more beautiful throughout every repeated listen.
I'm in the office on a Sunday, voluntarily, to work on an application form. The last hour or so would’ve been soul-destroying had it not been for these uploads. I salute you!
First time I listened to 5:32 I stood there not knowing what to do. Didn’t see it coming and every time I relisten to it, I can never predict the exact moment where the instruments all come in.
I really wish they could play these songs live in their entirety instead of just parts/segments of it. But I guess it's difficult to recreate these sounds and samples in a live setting.
I don't know what y'all are talking about but the part that starts at 13:40 is the real huanting part of this song.... picture a desert continent with one lost ancient city in the middle. That part is that city
This is awesome. I've been listening to this for four, five days. It's strange, but I feel happy, before I was mid-depressed. 5:32... most powerful uditive-drug-solo-of-all-experimental.
I saw this band a few times around the time they released this album. At that time they were even better live than on cd. Everyone at the gig was completely dumbfounded
by the time i finished listening to sleep i was bawling my eyes out, and when baby-o started playing i just rocked back and forth a little distraught from what had just happened previously on the album, 11/10 would do again
Everyone's talking about how powerful and beautiful bulldozer is, but the track of the French children playfully singing with ambient music playing is exactly what this album is for me. It is the essence of what makes life worth living. Family, play and art.
Every time I listen to this song I try to consciously forget how 05:32 sounds, so I can relive the experience of listening to it over and over again.
Check out their 2010-12-05 "Nightmare Before Christmas" performance. It's such a beautiful explosion of sound it's hard to imagine it didn't blast the audience off their feet.
Agree. It's a massive and beautiful pay-off.
did not expect it
hands down the best album closer of all time
From the best album of all time too
Sublime track that requires patience. To all those who love it, I salute you, and will see you after all this is over. peace and hope to you all
10:10 is one of their finest melodies. Absolute tranquility
+Sean “loomer” zzz Absolutely agree
+Sean “loomer” zzz can't agree more!
I have heard it before.
"Nervous, Sad, Poor"?
ah the second half of "She dreamt she was a bulldozer, She dreamt she was sitting alone in an empty field"
A hearken back to Dead Flag Blues from F#A#, which makes it so much more emotional.
So many words expressed through that single note bend...
i feel like the drummer on this album is so fricking underrated. they're always so crucial
He's Jesus himself
10:10
Aidan Girt is a genius
I wish I could've been there in 2000, along with the rest of the internet, having just listened to this hot off the press, decoding all of the album's mysteries and dissecting it's beauty on some now-defunct music discussion board.
"now-defunct"
@anon anon incredible still seeing this reference in the wild in 2020
16:56 - 18:57 It's like the final moments of someone's life, summed up in a song absolutely perfectly.
Escape From Nevara 2 by Zeurel has that exact thing happening.
That was always my impression of the song, like a representation of a full life, the ending is both sad, alien, and beautiful
@Piggons same, friend
You too! They must have had it in mind, it evokes that imagery in so many people...
i always imagine an old person, sitting on the couch in early morning, maybe watching television or reading a magazine, they look up to find 4-5 angels staring at them, silent. the imaginary camera points back at the couch, the person is gone, and so are the angels
When bengamin said "Like antennas to heaven" I cried. Truly a masterpiece of ultrakill reference
10:10 is the best music moment of all time, literally a 10/10...
Holy shit yes! That drum pattern might seriously be the best I ever heard
It's definitely up there.
the crazy thing is I think there’s a better moment that literally happens 5 minutes earlier
The first song ever to make me cry. She Dreamt She was a Bulldozer is musical perfection. Thank you GYBE
Never has an album moved me as much as this one.

i just shitted lol
that’s three words

no one talks about how haunting the transition from baby-o to edgyswingsetacid is. it's so good

my friend past away this morning. I have antennas to heaven now. Rest in Peace Rasih.
That outro is pretty much the best thing ever
They spoke the album title right there. Sounds like being pulled away from this world.
the children singing always makes me smile
Why is it french ?
Grog MadMan they're from Montreal that might be part of it
It comes so well after the Glockenspiel Duet. Both have a sunny campsite in 2000s feel to it.
Goddammit, Deathkamp Drone just sends chills through every nerve ending in my body. How is it something so minimalist can invoke such emotion?
It's almost to beautiful indeed
Because it's not (minimalist). There was an incredible amount of effort put into the track to make it sound as beautiful as it is.
Few modern projects have mastered this, but I would put Godspeed's genius here and on other albums up to rival Crimson or Floyd, at least in their mastery of textures and real meaning in the music.
Ineffable, mystical, transcendental, elusive, and astonishingly beautiful. Music is a wondrous analogy for perspectives on life.
17:00 That ending. THAT ENDING. Seriously. It's perfect.
When it hits you... It hits you

7:11 - 11:58 slays me emotionally. It's like I'm on the verge of suicide but then my mind reminisces about all the good things that happened to me in life that I can't help but feel nostalgic and cry.
wow I experience, like, exactly the same feelings during this bit, especially the crying part
One of my most favourite moments in any track, ever written.

Listening to deathkamp drone is like having your soul escape your body to explore the universe and discover the kingdom of heaven. Uneblievable.
All I see are constellations as I lay on the grass field witnessing my mind detach from my body venturing into outer space.

Greatest finale to an album.
Death Kamp Drone...the name says it all.

They do sound similar because of the slide guitar.
No! Me too, I was thinking of the exact same thing.
by the time i finished listening to sleep i was bawling my eyes out, and when baby-o started playing i just rocked back and forth a little distraught from what had just happened previously on the album, 11/10 would do again
