LYRICS (French / English)
Je l'ai cherchée partout / I’ve searched for her everywhere
J'ai fait le tour du monde / I’ve been around the world
De Venise à Java, de Manille à Angkor / From Venice to Java, From Manilla to Angkor
De Jeanne à Victoria, de Vénus en Joconde / From Jeanne to Victoria, from Venus to Joconde*
Je ne l'ai pas trouvée et je la cherche encore / I haven’t found her and I search for her still
Je ne connais rien d'elle et pourtant je la vois / I know nothing about her and yet I see her
J'ai inventé son nom, j'ai entendu sa voix / I’ve made up her name, I’ve heard her voice
J'ai dessiné son corps et j'ai peint son visage / I’ve sketched her body and painted her face
Son portrait et l'amour ne font plus qu'une image / Her portrait and love have become a single image
Sa démarche ressemble aux souvenirs d'enfant / Her walk resembles childhood memories
Qui trottent dans ma tête et dansent en rêvant / That run through my head and dance as they dream
Sur son front, ses cheveux sont de l'or en bataille / On her brow, her hair is tousled gold
Que le vent de la mer et le soleil chamaillent / That the ocean wind and the sun tease
Je pourrais vous parler de ses yeux, de ses mains / I could speak to you of her eyes, of her hands
I could tell you about her until tomorrow
Her love is my life, but what good is this dream?
Je l'ai cherchée partout et je ne l'ai pas trouvée / I’ve looked for her everywhere and I haven’t found her
Je la chercherai à jamais / I’ll search for her always
*La Joconde is another name for the Mona Lisa, from the Italian La Gioconda, which is the feminine version of her husband's last name, del Giocondo. It means jocund or jolly, lighthearted.
I just love this song so much.
Me too I love Michel Legrand's music. Thank you so much for this beautiful cover
Me too. Thank you very much!
It's also interesting to see Delphine's point of view. Clara Luciani made this version with Vladimir Cauchemar (ua-cam.com/video/DFNr8NCfV78/v-deo.html) which is darker but both of you are proposing a nice way to discover Michel Legrand's works, so thank you !
Trop belle pour moi. Hope the week went well Nataly
You are great at French romantic and lyrical songs and in general all French songs. Thank you for the treat.
I'm natively french, and Pomplamoose is my favourite place to discover french music
Aye, as well discovering my native language patrimony :-D
i am natively american irish, and Nataly is my favourite singer who happens to breathe new life to chansons de Francais. le amour me.
I don't know French but just listening made me cry. Then I looked at the lyrics. Amazing how all your talents were able to transcend a language barrier. Magnificent
++++ and do turn on the subtitles for the English translation!
I love a lot of what you've done over the last 3-4 years, but sometimes I think those French songs, well, to me it's like some kind of homecoming for Nataly, I get tears in my eyes, it's so beautiful.
This, for me, is quintessential, essential Pomplamoose! Nataly is deeply immersed in her elements, harmonizing by Sarah, and the sublime excellence of the other musicians supporting this fabulous rendition of M. LeGrand's magical song...This is love, pure love. Thank you so much to each artist in the Pomplamoose collection who produced this Masterpiece! I think Nataly is at her very best in French; she radiates her comfort and pleasure. John Schroeder, Jack Conte of course, superb...Ben Rose, Erik, Ross and of course Eliana, whose swaying bass lines are marvelous! This is just wonderful. May I look soon for #3 French Album?
Thank you for such a kind comment, and for including all the musicians! They each bring something so special to these songs, I'm really grateful we've been able to make so much magical music together. I hope to be creating French jazz with them for a very long time!
@@Pomplamoose Nataly, you are the best! Hoping that your operation was a successful one - keep that hat on, Madame! Yes, I believe your hope will come true of continuing to create Jazz Francaise forever; you are quite naturally suited for this genre. (oops, another French word!) You all performed at 3000% and I am just grateful, grateful and happy to listen. J'adore...
Agreed in every way. I enjoy so many different styles, and this one is absolutely quintessential to Pamplamoose and Nataly. In the US, who knew that French Jazz even existed? By the way, the clarinetist is so awesome. The video is worthy of watching just based on him. But, the ensemble is like a Mt. Everest. Each part is a great mountain, but, added together they are complimentary in every way. Bravo on this one!
j'aime beaucoup ce que vous écrivez...
I feel like I have just read a boo. Maybe your a bit obsessed but hey your a better man than me.
You make me suffer much more Legrand did those times. With great love, recognition and respect.
Merci, merci, merci!
It’s heavenly when you record French songs.
It is amazing that a California band makes me discover beautiful french songs. Thank You !
Gorgeous. The clarinet and harmonica are amazing.
My favorite part :) Such soulful sounds!
Love this sort of music, the ones that make you tear up even if you don't understand a single word...
As a learner of French language, you guys motivated me to continue work harder for this beautiful language. Thank you for such a beautiful song and please continue to make more French songs. Merci.
I grew up listening to Les Demoiselles de Rochefort and Les Parapluis de Cherbourg - you moved me so much with this version... I cannot wait for the new French album
Today, he died. Jacques Perrin, the actor who sang the song in the movie. All his life he looked like the young sailor he plaid in this movie, with the same quiet and smiling and open minded behaviour.
I’m such a lyrically hearted singer myself. With a family of musicians in the Bay Area, my brother turned me on to Pomplamoose about a year ago. I woke up and listened to this video and it eased my mind to face the day with a loving and positive heart. You all bring me such joy. Thank you for being... you.
You must believe in spring and in Pomplamoose...
People who really play musical instruments... A thoughtfully arranged songs and compositions... Real, original choices away from noise and populism... Rational shots that capture music lovers and amateur musicians in the clips, enthuse, excite and inspire... After everything that people howling and moaning and even talking on a background of computers, presented to me as music, these two seemed like medicine to me. These musicians are anonymous Bethovens, Mozarts.. Thanks from my heart.
Everything Pomplamoose does is great but this one is truly musical artistry.
I grew up loving Les Parapluies de Cherbourg and only later did I discover Les Demoiselles de Rochefort and they have both been sources of joy and inspiration for me, ever since. La chanson de Maxence was written in a state of grace.
now i'm traveling light back to a french cafe quaint and intimate. the songs are drifting through me like an espresso dream.
I was honestly surprised to hear a cover of this song from perhaps the best French musical I have ever seen. "Young Girls of Rochefort" is amazing and this rendition is hauntingly beautiful.
. Obligé...d'adorer, quoi ! With my all wishes of success...but that's done, no ?
Super compositeur. Super chanteuse. Supers musiciens. Super arrangement.
This goes straight to the favourites folder.
Merci beaucoup.
représentée !
A mysterious and beautiful song. Natalie is wonderful as always and the back up singer lady is so good. Love this song.
Merci d'exister.
Reigniting my love of French music.
The mouth organ player is too good for words.
the camera angles and the closeups are a powerful part of the impact of this song. I have sent this link to a friend who has lost the love of her life and will always mourn for her, although she will find strength and joy in life again- take your time Kate, forever, if you need it.
Enfin, enfin! Bravo Natalie, bravo Sarah!
ANGELICAL MAKES ME FEEL FEEL IN PEACE ,SERENE,EXQUISITE ,THANK YOU 🕊🦋
The song and this particular performance of it brings a tear to my eye every time I listen to it. I simply become immersed in its sadness, despair and ultimate beauty.
All the musicians and singers are great! And the song as well (I'm into French songs nowadays)....but this harmonica...wow! it's amazing!
Demasiada belleza en una sola canción. Es poesía en verdad.
Beautifull Voice, Beautifull Girl, Beautifull eyes, Beautifull Soul, Beautifull Band!! Lovely Couple. Greetings from Porto Alegre, South of Brazil.
Thank you...and to Michel Legrand too!
I have basic French, love the language and enjoy learning the words/tunes/intonations. These guys are fab.
Seriously ! Pomplamoose are simply "The Best" !
Thanks to you guys I discovered this mesmerizing song and the wonderful artist that was monsieur Legrand. I think that version absolutely honors him, I was speechless for the entire duration of your rendition. Much love from Naples, Italy, and please keep making us dream and live through your music
Merci encore les us
what an amazing group of musicians. this was beautiful. Nataly's voice is so smoothing. and her accent is top notch. I could not tell she is not native
(Frenchman here)
I've only just come upon this song. What a superb song and a brilliant rendition by Pomp. And the silence at the end, you can sense the feeling in the room of a very special recording achieved. I have to say the solos by harmonica and clarinet, the blending one to the other, was beautiful. Sarah's second voice to Nataly's soft statement of the song, and her harmonies were just what she does so well. The balance and quiet rhythm of both guitars, the gorgeous bass tones, and the gentle percussion, perfect. And Jack's accordion, so very French, light and dreamy... thank you guys for this. I love the French songs... Rich Alvey, UK.
... is Sarah of French descent, I wonder? Her obvious familiarity with the language can't just be 'on the day'? I know that Nataly is fluent in French.
Bravissimo ! Merci encore.
Eu admiro demais vcs do Pomplamoose! Que canção mais linda, parabéns! Direto do 🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷❤️
Merci beaucoup 😊
Quelle heureuse surprise! Merci beaucoup.
Hipnótica versión. No me canso de escucharla. Remueve y conmueve. Gracias.
Quelle émotion! Cette version est de toute beauté.
J'aime beaucoup... Oh la la. Francaise..... Beautiful toujours.. Carmen
Merci
(1 million de fois, au moins!)
Es hermosa la canción. Musicalmente son increíbles. Afinación y corazón
Just one word..."goosebumps"! I pretty much love everything Pomplamoose create. This prompted me to Spotify their amazing song collection, and 5 hours later I'm still enjoying every example of their unique talent and style. A truly wonderful, inspirational group of musical magicians!
Tell the world, spread the word. Pomplamoose are the best...full stop. 🤓
Merveilleuse chanson et merveilleuse interprétation 👏👏👏😊❗️Merci 🌿 Véronique
Magnifique !! merci pour Michel..Claude
Merci...
and they have a Clarinet - ultimate french insturment. Bravo Nataly
Beautiful song
So beautiful
Oh.
That bassist! So much energy, I love it
GRANDE, GRANDE Michel Legrand.!!!
The clarinet solo.... dayummmmmmm!
thank you for this beautiful song. I cried. 💋
Tasty. Classy. I closed my eyes to listen and was sitting at a sidewalk cafe in Paris sipping espresso, smoking a cigarette feeling bittersweet sadness and beauty wash over me through this song. The versatility of Pomplamoose never ceases to amaze me.
Beautiful song. And a girl with a big upright guitar.🤗
Hello. I already understand and feel why it is your favorite song in French. Thank you and a big hug from Mérida- Venezuela ...
This song bears a special significance today...
