It's also interesting to see Delphine's point of view. Clara Luciani made this version with Vladimir Cauchemar (ua-cam.com/video/DFNr8NCfV78/v-deo.html) which is darker but both of you are proposing a nice way to discover Michel Legrand's works, so thank you !
C'est , ma plus belle chanson. Et votre version ! Est extraordinaire. Vraiment. J'y retourne ! Des que je peux. Madame messieurs !je n'ai que 2 mots ! Bra. VO.
The day I heard Legrand had passed, I wept for hours. Never knew him but his luminous music made me feel as if he was a best friend, even a brother. This is among his most beautiful melodies out of so many gorgeous works. I often sing it to myself despite my awful voice and en Francais then in my own paltry English translation. This is a stunning rendition. Bravo to all concerned.
Today, he died. Jacques Perrin, the actor who sang the song in the movie. All his life he looked like the young sailor he plaid in this movie, with the same quiet and smiling and open minded behaviour.
. Obligé...d'adorer, quoi ! With my all wishes of success...but that's done, no ?
the camera angles and the closeups are a powerful part of the impact of this song. I have sent this link to a friend who has lost the love of her life and will always mourn for her, although she will find strength and joy in life again- take your time Kate, forever, if you need it.
I love a lot of what you've done over the last 3-4 years, but sometimes I think those French songs, well, to me it's like some kind of homecoming for Nataly, I get tears in my eyes, it's so beautiful.
I don't know French but just listening made me cry. Then I looked at the lyrics. Amazing how all your talents were able to transcend a language barrier. Magnificent
I've only just come upon this song. What a superb song and a brilliant rendition by Pomp. And the silence at the end, you can sense the feeling in the room of a very special recording achieved. I have to say the solos by harmonica and clarinet, the blending one to the other, was beautiful. Sarah's second voice to Nataly's soft statement of the song, and her harmonies were just what she does so well. The balance and quiet rhythm of both guitars, the gorgeous bass tones, and the gentle percussion, perfect. And Jack's accordion, so very French, light and dreamy... thank you guys for this. I love the French songs... Rich Alvey, UK.
... is Sarah of French descent, I wonder? Her obvious familiarity with the language can't just be 'on the day'? I know that Nataly is fluent in French.
Bravo !!
This, for me, is quintessential, essential Pomplamoose! Nataly is deeply immersed in her elements, harmonizing by Sarah, and the sublime excellence of the other musicians supporting this fabulous rendition of M. LeGrand's magical song...This is love, pure love. Thank you so much to each artist in the Pomplamoose collection who produced this Masterpiece! I think Nataly is at her very best in French; she radiates her comfort and pleasure. John Schroeder, Jack Conte of course, superb...Ben Rose, Erik, Ross and of course Eliana, whose swaying bass lines are marvelous! This is just wonderful. May I look soon for #3 French Album?
Thank you for such a kind comment, and for including all the musicians! They each bring something so special to these songs, I'm really grateful we've been able to make so much magical music together. I hope to be creating French jazz with them for a very long time!
@@Pomplamoose Nataly, you are the best! Hoping that your operation was a successful one - keep that hat on, Madame! Yes, I believe your hope will come true of continuing to create Jazz Francaise forever; you are quite naturally suited for this genre. (oops, another French word!) You all performed at 3000% and I am just grateful, grateful and happy to listen. J'adore...
Agreed in every way. I enjoy so many different styles, and this one is absolutely quintessential to Pamplamoose and Nataly. In the US, who knew that French Jazz even existed? By the way, the clarinetist is so awesome. The video is worthy of watching just based on him. But, the ensemble is like a Mt. Everest. Each part is a great mountain, but, added together they are complimentary in every way. Bravo on this one!
The song and this particular performance of it brings a tear to my eye every time I listen to it. I simply become immersed in its sadness, despair and ultimate beauty.
People who really play musical instruments... A thoughtfully arranged songs and compositions... Real, original choices away from noise and populism... Rational shots that capture music lovers and amateur musicians in the clips, enthuse, excite and inspire... After everything that people howling and moaning and even talking on a background of computers, presented to me as music, these two seemed like medicine to me. These musicians are anonymous Bethovens, Mozarts.. Thanks from my heart.
I grew up loving Les Parapluies de Cherbourg and only later did I discover Les Demoiselles de Rochefort and they have both been sources of joy and inspiration for me, ever since. La chanson de Maxence was written in a state of grace.
Oh my God !
I was honestly surprised to hear a cover of this song from perhaps the best French musical I have ever seen. "Young Girls of Rochefort" is amazing and this rendition is hauntingly beautiful.
I grew up listening to Les Demoiselles de Rochefort and Les Parapluis de Cherbourg - you moved me so much with this version... I cannot wait for the new French album
Merci, How moving!!! Such a nice arrangement so well performed by all the musiciens! Thank you
As a learner of French language, you guys motivated me to continue work harder for this beautiful language. Thank you for such a beautiful song and please continue to make more French songs. Merci.
I’m such a lyrically hearted singer myself. With a family of musicians in the Bay Area, my brother turned me on to Pomplamoose about a year ago. I woke up and listened to this video and it eased my mind to face the day with a loving and positive heart. You all bring me such joy. Thank you for being... you.
I just love this song so much.
Me too I love Michel Legrand's music. Thank you so much for this beautiful cover
Me too. Thank you very much!

Trop belle pour moi. Hope the week went well Nataly
You are great at French romantic and lyrical songs and in general all French songs. Thank you for the treat.

Thank you...and to Michel Legrand too!
Absolutely
You make me suffer much more Legrand did those times. With great love, recognition and respect.
Merveilleux.........magique........Merci..!
9.55 pm Oz Melbourne. Love Natalie’s French songs best!!!
Art urbain rideau
J'aime beaucoup... Oh la la. Francaise..... Beautiful toujours.. Carmen

This song bears a special significance today...

I'm natively french, and Pomplamoose is my favourite place to discover french music
Aye, as well discovering my native language patrimony :-D
i am natively american irish, and Nataly is my favourite singer who happens to breathe new life to chansons de Francais. le amour me.

I don't know French but just listening made me cry. Then I looked at the lyrics. Amazing how all your talents were able to transcend a language barrier. Magnificent
++++ and do turn on the subtitles for the English translation!
Dieu que de souvenirs avec cette chanson... Une très bonne interprétation... 😭😭👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Love this sort of music, the ones that make you tear up even if you don't understand a single word...
The mouth organ player is too good for words.

Seriously ! Pomplamoose are simply "The Best" !
Reigniting my love of French music.
Merci encore les us
