Gaffy the Goffins Cockatoo

This is Gaffy, the Goffin's Cockatoo. He is such a funny bird. All parrots require a lot of work, and cockatoos require the most attention and care of all. I cannot recommend getting a cockatoo as a pet, as they live 80 years, and act like a 2 year old child for all 80 of those years. Enjoy the antics of Gaffy!

They are a PIA! I have had Boo all 14 years since he was a baby. It has not been easy. He's the cutest thing in the world and I love him to pieces, but he also drives me nuts and is a big responsibility.

He's cute & adorable! I'm sure everyone who sees this is going want one! I'm in Canada & there are usually numerous cockatoos available on Kijiji - In the USA there are far too many to count available in multiple rescues & shelters!
Toos are the most frequently re-homed parrots!
Does anyone thinking of getting one know the reason for this?
If you don't know why they're so frequently sent to shelters / rescues you should get educated before making a decision- - We see these adorable videos & people want the playful sweet bird in the film clips - But the reality is quite different! They're difficult to maintain in a well adjusted emotionally stable manner -
If you're truly serious maybe start by fostering a Cockatoo for a rescue - You will have first hand experience with the trial & tribulations of living with one!

Aside from the noise, they are a huge responsibility. Goffins, along with all Cockatoos, are very intelligent, so If they become bored, they are very much liable to develop behavioral issues like plucking and self mutilation. I wouldn't even consider buying one unless you can spend 3-4hour with it a day. If you do have the time, it's certainly not hard to spend it with them are they are awesome companions.

Another Channel theyre not as prone to chew up furniture and other household furnishings if you keep them busy with a constant flow of toys ,changing them out often. My goffins likes to chew holes in the fabric cage cover My Matties looks like swiss cheese right now and its time to throw it out and get a new one .lol im sure the owners of this little girl keep her occupied and engaged so she wont hav time to get bored and mischevious lol

As with any parrot they will be loud on occasion however Goffins are so cuddly and cute it totally makes up for it! You can see my Goffin on my channel!

I don't cut my goffins wings but if you don't practice free flighting your bird it's best to cut them. This is because if the bird gets free outdoors with no flight experience he/she will not be a skilled enough flier to return to you and you will probably lose him/her forever!
