I think Dragons were rob on this grand final. There were panelties that were supposed to go Dragon's way but the ref just let it go resulting in Melbourne's win.
This is no slower than the modern game. No milking, proper tackles, footy skills on point. Why why why has it changed so much for the worse? All that needed changing were head shots. Makes me sad every time I watch an old match
I was born and raised in Melbourne to immigrant parents from New Zealand who were Auckland Warriors fans. As soon as the Storm became an official team in 1998, they jumped ship without question. I grew up in South East Melbourne which is AFL heartland, and I remember watching this grand final with my entire family and being the loudest house in the entire neighbourhood because absolutely nobody in a 10km radius had no idea what was going on 😂 such a pivotal sporting moment for the city of Melbourne
1999 and 2015, two of the best grand finals Melbourne (3rd place) had to play the finals the hard way losing to St George (6th) in finals week 1. They played the 3 games and claimed a spot in the grand final, and at half time people thought it was an easy win for St George. Melbourne came back and suddenly made one of the greatest sporting miracles, including one of the hardest refereeing decisions ever. What a great season for melbourne.
Yes, we were up in the nosebleed section and as soon as he took the ball, I looked down towards the other end and saw there was no one in front of him! Happy days, I felt pretty confident that we were on our way to glory! At least until the first part of the 2nd half, I was starting to rattle even before Melbourne scored because we came out quite tentatively.
In the 1990’s I was a lower grader and knew the players well enough About 11pm that night , I sat with Jamie A on the seats outside the leagues club , he was distraught , like he was mourning . I looked at him and said “You win as a team and lose as a team “. He looked at me and smiled Wearing our player jackets, we both removed our jackets and kept smiling A lot of players were angry and finger pointing - choc copped a lot blame, correctly
What a year that was storm and north Melbourne both won flags my other teams Dallas stars Stanley cup champions , Australia 99 cricket World Cup and rugby union as well
Re watching it Mundine was hit high on the head in the act of scoring a try and made him drop the ball which should’ve been a penalty try. Melbourne scored a try with a forward pass by Geyer and then scored another one after they blatantly head highed Wishart to regain the ball from the kick off after the Dragons try. The ref was on their side that day.
0:35 whoever decided that having a massive sign that said "Men in Blacklock" obviously wasn't too bright 😂😂😂 Also seeing Mundine lose this game was great 😂 (of course the reason he lost was racism)
@@auzziguy449 exactly. You just ask him. And he never got picked for Australia because the "selectors were all racists". Unfortunately his argument doesn't stack up because they picked Laurie Daley.
To be faIr, it was the right selection at the time. Mundine got us into the grand final with an absolute blinder the week before and was well on his way to the Clive Churchill medal here except he went himself instead of passing to an unmarked man.

Was it a Penalty TRY or an 8 Point TRY? It couldn’t of been an 8 Point TRY because he dropped it but the ref awarded the 2nd kick as if it was an 8 Point TRY, when when it’s a Penalty TRY you don’t get a 2nd shot.
But the penalty try does award the kick infront of the sticks….. it was 14 - 18 plus 4 for the try….. and the kick…. From infront of the sticks…. For the penalty try… the one kick…..one
@@jamesgray2353 Yeah, I didn't notice the head shot until today. Mundine still should have passed but I suspect in today's game Dragons get a penalty at worst and possibly a penalty try.

THIS! This is the single moment that ruined my childhood!!!!! It is bringing back all the repressed memories!
This will always be a unique Grand final in NRL history. This and the 2015 Broncos vs Cowboys are my 2 best ever NRL grandfinals.

Couldn't agree more. Today's game is a pale comparison to even 15 years ago
shoulder charges were legal back then too.
it's changed? for some reason I figured rugby was one of those sports that couldn't but I guess I was wrong

ICONIC
I was 7 when I watched this game.. and I pretty much remember a lot from it, don’t ask me how 💀💀Robbie Ross was one of my favourites back then too
Mundine dropping the ball over the line with two players unmarked outside him. A converted try then would have made it 20-0.

2:15 I was like 😳
Bro came outta nowhere
Such a tight game. I sympathize with the Dragons on this occasion.
Blacklock, best grand final try
Not a Storm fan but they had nice jerseys in 1999
Ainscough, Ainscough, Ainscough. 😅The ascendency was with Storm so a tie breaker most likely be in Storms favour so didn’t really matter 🤷🏻
Interesting how they played this on the Olympic track, makes sense with less than a year left for it to begin
I guess the stadium was built as an athletics venue first and then reconfigured later, so makes sense that is had the track
This is the best grandfinal ever in the history of rugby league. 🇵🇬✊❤️💯 Bai
1989
so many things wrong with this game, its like the officials handed the game to Melbourne, Should have been a St George Illawarra victory
1999, the year of dropping trophies. Hershel Gibbs dropped the World Cup and Mundine dropped the Grand Final.
He actually got hit in the head.

Harrigan made The Correct Decision.
2:10 OHHHHHHH ... BLACKLOCK. NATHAN BLACKLOCK!!!
Remember watching it and having bet on St George, still dont know how they lost that game. Just switched off the last 15 minutes.
Nathan Blacklock… take a bow
Why was the best 5/8th in the Saint’s team playing at halfback?
Because the greatest player of all time was their number 6 🤣 better than Fittler, Daley and Barrett apparently.

Hugh Jackman with the national anthem: Rabs..
Ainsco was a real smartarse clipping a storm player's head earlier on..how sweet it was that he was the cause of their loss

100% penalty try...and the Dragon player should have been sent off
