Deryck is definitely very different live these days. In the first decade or so of the band he had such a piss a vinegar punk attute, and a very animated expression about the lines he'd sing. Everything I wanted to embody myself onstage.
Nowadays he is a lot more toned down but performes arguably even better. I would be lying if I said I didn't miss that fire he had in those days sometimes though. Especially in performances like Go Chuck Yourself. He was like a crazed bat outta hell and he clearly loved leaning into that.
Speaking of bats, don't think I didn't clearly see and understand the Fright Night reference immediately! It was so cool Brewster. Really enjoying these. God bless 🤙

Oh also in regards to Pain for Pleasure and Derycks drumming it was during one of those performances of that song in the Underclass Hero era that Deryck slipped the disk in his back sitting down on the drum thrown that started all of his back issues that would continue to be a problem for him ongoing

Yeah David had the chance to see them live mid career. More recent interviews with them, tend to agree with what you said. They were full of energy, but because of the drinking the shows were “sloppy” is the way Cone had put it. But now, it’s still energetic, but they feel like they can give fans a better performance because it’s more fine tuned, and respectful of their current physicality. It’s crazy that his back initially went out doing something he only does sparingly, though! I was surprised when David told me that! Correct posture while performing is so important!
I’m looking forward to seeing them on this final tour. Will you be hitting any of the upcoming shows?
Thanks for watching and we’re glad you are enjoying the series!

@@CriticallyDisdained I am! Sum 41 is also my favorite band. I've seen them the most of any group, they were even my first concert. I saw them in 2007, 2010, 2012, 2018, and 2019. The 2019 one was actually my favorite because they were on tour for Order in Decline and the anniversary of Chuck which is my favorite. They played a lot from that album that they don't too often. I was especially happy they played 88 which has always been my favorite song of theirs. We are going to see them in Ohio. October is going to be crazy for me and the wife because we are seeing them and Green Day the same month. Green day will be a first for me so I'm super hyped about that one too!

88 is an amazing song! I’d love to see that live! That’s awesome you’ll be seeing both bands in October! We’ll be hitting up that last show in Toronto, definitely excited for that! But, I am a little envious that the US tour is featuring The Interrupters, as well - I love them! Hope you and your wife have an awesome time! 😎
