I personally have come to conclude that it's up to the child's personality too - some have more of a resistance or something that maybe they feel closer to this their other culture .. it's definitely more complex than we think.. cause u r right in some families their children easily speak their mother tongue... Or sometimes it may be a case of households say where the parents don't use a word of English .. maybe - all I know is I've tried the works- from daily lessons, our Hindi school type alphabet/ word/ story primer books, watching Hindi animations, n yes even scheduled Hindi talk time. They wud try speaking during that time but then again rest of time would always answer back in English even if I spoke Hindi- exactly like your case. Now they have almost a resistance to speaking n learning unfortunately n here I know it's nothing I've done or not done. Usually I agree our kids r v much a reflection of our upbringing, what we did or didn't do.. but somehow in this case I don't feel I could have done anything differently. And guess what it's ok- if it's going be such a pressure hard task for them then it's a small battle it's ok to let them win😊 of course doesn't mean u shouldn't try- as every child is different n u might have better luck eventually but don't sweat it or stress it too much dear- So Where did u buy that cute top? Yes I thought I noticed the couch is gone.. I will try this way of making paneer next time- I've never tried switching off stove first then adding.. Here in india parents want there kids to speek english and when you live in another country its normal that the kids are going to speek that country's language. Kuch to log kahenge logo ka kaam hai kehna. Mons ko guilty feel krana bohot asan hota hai but the job that you are doing with your kids is fab. Be proud of it 😊

I am a Punjabi by birth but spoke to my parents in Hindi growing up. My dad was in a transferable job and we had to learn other languages, so they said that Hindi was universalThey spoke in Punjabi to each other but in Hindi with us. v 'Now we are in the USA and my kids don't really speak Hindi and I don't feel too bad. They speak to their grandparents in India in Hindi and that is good enough for me. To each his own. Your kids have a fun mom and dad, you spend time with them, eat and feed them healthy meals. You do what works for your family. Our kids are happy, well adjusted and healthy.
Ayesha and keyush are super kids.Dont worry if they don't speak in Hindi, at least they understand this language. Keep reading good stories to them and Converse 10 min daily they will surely be able to speak .U r a super mom and I appreciate your each and every step towards yr child.

Don't feel guilty. Your kids are Indo-Canadians!! My both kids are first generation Americans, they look like Indians but they think and live like any other American, in other words they are not like us parents who grew up in India. They do understand Kannada but they reply in English which is fine, we never forced them to speak or do anything in which they are not comfortable or self conscious. We also don't go to India every year, so they don't really need to speak the language. Yes, there are some kids who speak their mother tongue fluently in USA but very few. As long as they enjoy stories in Hindi or Bengali, in our case Amar Chitra Katha books in English, good enough in my opinion! :) I did try to make my poor kids say "DhritaRashtra or Mahishasura or Shurpanakha or Kurukshetra etc, but they can only say Hanuman, Shiva and Ganesha to this day, they are adults now! Haha. Clever idea to mince Rotis with veggies, I might try that for ourselves!

They are living outside India so it is understandable that they will lean towards English. I was born and brought up outside India too...I could understand Hindi...used to love watching hindi movies ...I was very uncomfortable conversing in Hindi ...I learnt a bit on my 1st trip to India...recall being laughed at as well...now dheere dheere I am comfortable but I still at times translate a sentence from English to Hindi in my head then speak ...which at times comes off weird... So don't worry...my parents were not at fault and neither are you.. What matters in the end is good manners and a great soul...language is merely a communication tool...and choosing one language over the other never harmed anyone... Keyush Hindi bolo...Hindi...hahaha that was super cute and to the point ...smart cookie 😘😘😘 Yesha looks extra serious but pretty in her 👓

Both the kids are soooooooo sweet and they understand bengali ,Hindi so well . We can't even blame the sweet little kids as where they r growing up they will pick up that language only but still suchi hats off to u ur trying ur level best to teach them Indian culture and languages. I can feel it well as both of my nephews born in USA and like u my bhabhi and brother both tried their best to teach them to speak in bengali but all in vain😛 Now they understand everything but can't speak .so keep cool and carry on suchi you are not wrong and no one should blame you .
Suchi, Hi...I have been out of Kolkata ever since my son was 17 months old. My son's schooling happened in Delhi NCR . Yes he speaks Bengali fluently, but can probably barely read to save his life. Friends and relatives might find his Bangla accented at times but more or less troublefree. Now when he is among friends or is excited, he speaks in Hindi and that too having influence of Gurgaon Urban style. His famous one-liners are in his comfort language as well. We spoke in Bangla at home always, but between me and him, we often spoke and speak in Hindi, but my husband would never do that. In fact when Keyush was not going to any school, I was surprised to see him speaking heavily accented English. Ideally that time he would have spoken Hindi if Hindi is the language you spoke at home. It is never too late. Now that they are conversant with English you can make family time Hindi speaking time. Best wishes.

But when I see your blogs I feel so energetic as you speak so softly n you are so good hearted woman mom the way you handle your children 🙇 Btw pls can you also share with us in details in your blog abt how you teach and make him practice with the school exercise the activities which the teachers have given in sheet (you mentioned in previous blog ) so that we can also teach our kids at home 😊 Pls do share And don't worry abt hindi. ..they will gradually learn everything as they have so beautiful parents around them 😊 I am bengali n live abroad where the official language is french n arabic n not English ....my 3 n half year old daughter is born here but as I speak English n bengali with her my hubby talks with her completely in bengali as according to him she must know our mother tongue very well then whatever language comes after So now my daughter speaks fluent bengali n then English(but not so well ) ....and so we think we must give our children that space that time to learn any language which will help them to be confident n will grow interests in them 😊
Dont worry dear itna tension mat lo. I also have same age kids here in USA. With my daughter i used to tell ki mumma ko english nahi aati ao she used to talk in tooti footi hindi with me when she was young and now she is quite comfortable in hindi even though her comfort zone of talking is english only... my son is 4 and i am trying the same with him and he also has started to talk a little bit in hindi.

when I was young I learnt english in a funny way. my parents use to play a game with me where my brother and I were not allowed to use bengali or hindi words while conversing. if we did so we were fined and had to pay 10paise / word from our piggy bank.................your technique made me nostalgic. keep up your good effort........it will take some time but efforts will show its colours

As i am an ophthalmologist what i understood from what u hv shared is that yesha has cylindrical number.. in most of the cases its always genetic but may develop later in life..if its a small cylinder then correction is not required unless the child is symptomatic.. but yah anything more than 0.50 needs correction and regular use of spectacles.. Nevertheless she looks cuter with glasses 🙂
Don't be guilty at all. It's good you did not try early other wise kids speaking gets delayed. Happened with mine. I was adviced by docs to speak in only 1 language till they start speaking well. Now you can start gradually. You can have a hindi speaking day like Sunday. But don't force the kids. Both the parents should speak and kids will follow. Do not worry or hurry you are very good and no guilt feeling please
English and French are the official languages of Canada. As long as Keyush and Yesha can speak both, they will be successful in their career in Canada. 👍🙏🤑

Hi di wonderful vblog dont worry di if they speak in hindi it's ohk bcz there brought up is in Canada bt di ur trying its good we can't force them so much they will speak bt hindi kaunsi small language he it's big like English. Don't worry love ur vlogs so much I always wait when ur vlogs will came bcz frm I got lots of positive energy ur such an amazing mom and human being.
So so relatable suchi even my kid doesn’t speak mother tongue and I talk with him in Gujarati and he replies in English.. 😀 don’t worry on that part I guess eventually they will speak mother tongue let’s hope that 😀

They do home visits and get done the activities. Sorry to deviate but can you please help me with how to potty train your one year old baby. It will be a big help. My concern was that they understand n speak both the languages fluently but believe me it never happened. Though they understand both the languages as I speak fluent sidhi, but they don't speak 😞. Its not us parents that are responsible for our kids not learning hindi.... I live in toronto.. N my daughter never apoke hindi or punjabi when we were in India... Its just that let the kids be expressive in whatever language they choose.

I am a Punjabi by birth but spoke to my parents in Hindi growing up. My dad was in a transferable job and we had to learn other languages, so they said that Hindi was universalThey spoke in Punjabi to each other but in Hindi with us. v 'Now we are in the USA and my kids don't really speak Hindi and I don't feel too bad. They speak to their grandparents in India in Hindi and that is good enough for me. To each his own. Your kids have a fun mom and dad, you spend time with them, eat and feed them healthy meals. You do what works for your family. Our kids are happy, well adjusted and healthy.

Don't feel guilty. Your kids are Indo-Canadians!! My both kids are first generation Americans, they look like Indians but they think and live like any other American, in other words they are not like us parents who grew up in India. They do understand Kannada but they reply in English which is fine, we never forced them to speak or do anything in which they are not comfortable or self conscious. We also don't go to India every year, so they don't really need to speak the language. Yes, there are some kids who speak their mother tongue fluently in USA but very few. As long as they enjoy stories in Hindi or Bengali, in our case Amar Chitra Katha books in English, good enough in my opinion! :)
I did try to make my poor kids say "DhritaRashtra or Mahishasura or Shurpanakha or Kurukshetra etc, but they can only say Hanuman, Shiva and Ganesha to this day, they are adults now! Haha. Clever idea to mince Rotis with veggies, I might try that for ourselves!

They are living outside India so it is understandable that they will lean towards English. I was born and brought up outside India too...I could understand Hindi...used to love watching hindi movies ...I was very uncomfortable conversing in Hindi ...I learnt a bit on my 1st trip to India...recall being laughed at as well...now dheere dheere I am comfortable but I still at times translate a sentence from English to Hindi in my head then speak ...which at times comes off weird...
So don't worry...my parents were not at fault and neither are you..
What matters in the end is good manners and a great soul...language is merely a communication tool...and choosing one language over the other never harmed anyone...

Suchi, Hi...I have been out of Kolkata ever since my son was 17 months old. My son's schooling happened in Delhi NCR . Yes he speaks Bengali fluently, but can probably barely read to save his life. Friends and relatives might find his Bangla accented at times but more or less troublefree. Now when he is among friends or is excited, he speaks in Hindi and that too having influence of Gurgaon Urban style. His famous one-liners are in his comfort language as well. We spoke in Bangla at home always, but between me and him, we often spoke and speak in Hindi, but my husband would never do that. In fact when Keyush was not going to any school, I was surprised to see him speaking heavily accented English. Ideally that time he would have spoken Hindi if Hindi is the language you spoke at home. It is never too late. Now that they are conversant with English you can make family time Hindi speaking time. Best wishes.

live abroad where the official language is french n arabic n not English ....my 3 n half year old daughter is born here but as I speak English n bengali with her my hubby talks with her completely in bengali as according to him she must know our mother tongue very well then whatever language comes after
So now my daughter speaks fluent bengali n then English(but not so well ) ....and so we think we must give our children that space that time to learn any language which will help them to be confident n will grow interests in them 😊
Dont worry dear itna tension mat lo. I also have same age kids here in USA. With my daughter i used to tell ki mumma ko english nahi aati ao she used to talk in tooti footi hindi with me when she was young and now she is quite comfortable in hindi even though her comfort zone of talking is english only... my son is 4 and i am trying the same with him and he also has started to talk a little bit in hindi.

when I was young I learnt english in a funny way. my parents use to play a game with me where my brother and I were not allowed to use bengali or hindi words while conversing. if we did so we were fined and had to pay 10paise / word from our piggy bank.................your technique made me nostalgic. keep up your good effort........it will take some time but efforts will show its colours

As i am an ophthalmologist what i understood from what u hv shared is that yesha has cylindrical number.. in most of the cases its always genetic but may develop later in life..if its a small cylinder then correction is not required unless the child is symptomatic.. but yah anything more than 0.50 needs correction and regular use of spectacles..

Don't be guilty at all. It's good you did not try early other wise kids speaking gets delayed. Happened with mine. I was adviced by docs to speak in only 1 language till they start speaking well. Now you can start gradually. You can have a hindi speaking day like Sunday. But don't force the kids. Both the parents should speak and kids will follow. Do not worry or hurry you are very good and no guilt feeling please
English and French are the official languages of Canada. As long as Keyush and Yesha can speak both, they will be successful in their career in Canada. 👍🙏🤑

My concern was that they understand n speak both the languages fluently but believe me it never happened. Though they understand both the languages as I speak fluent sidhi, but they don't speak 😞.
