    These tactics are cool to listen to for someone who just rides casually. Awesome and funny stuff!

    Loved the insight into the mental side, I usually find myself just aimlessly riding on group rides no purpose and probably a reason why my progress has stagnated.

    This is seriously one of the best cycling channels on YT! I have learned so much from your commentary and explanations. Plus I get psyched to ride just watching these and the editing is top notch. Keep 'em coming!

    Thanks for sharing. I just started cycling and I stopped doing group rides bc I thought they were disorganized w all the gaps, but you helped me realize this is what happens in races too.

    I'm a new rodie as four plates and 21 screws in my right ankle slowed my Motorcross racing. This video shows why fast group rides are just as much fun as hard Motos with the boys! Great video and even better description of what's going on!!

    Thanks for making this video. I made my club watch it since you covered everything w/ examples on placement, following wheels forward, knowing the terrain and anticipating other riders and their abilities. These are the videos that I really enjoy. Keep up the good work.

    Neat video. If you're a sadist, like myself, the best part of fast group rides is to purposefully open gaps (especially when it gets fast) and force others to close them. If no one is able to close the gap, snap off and bridge across as fast as possible so no one can follow. Crosswinds are the best environment for this. Happy riding!

  • @wisskier
    @wisskier 8 років тому

    Thanks for the video and discussion. I was on a ride mid-summer with a mix of racers and non-racers ranging up cat-2 (I'm approaching 5) on down and my plan was to sit and see how long I could hang with the lead group. I got into that same situation, I would be on a wheel and then I noticed a gap opening, so I get around and fill the gap only to repeat. I did get on the lead group but I did not last long with them.
    Often times I get dropped cresting hills as well. I was on another ride and I found myself pulling into a climb and I managed to hold on the first time. I sat for a while and then on my first pull through I found myself at the front again into a climb, that time I was toast. I rode solo and then broke the route off to go home (which was my plan).

    30 dudes is a big ass group ride. The only rides in my club (which is a fairly large club near New York City) that come to that size are beginner rides to teach basic group skills, or shop rides which pull in everybody who ever got a bike or a tune up there, regardless of skills. The only time we get 30 fast guys together is for that same shop's Friday Night race series in the summer.

      I live in just north of you in Palm Beach Gardens/Jupiter area and see the same thing. I roll up to B+ group rides on my 2004 Specialized Roubaix (yes 2004) I bought used for $550.00 in 2017 when I started seriously riding....everyone else has 5K plus bikes and all the kit. By the end of the ride I'm right up in the front group 80% of the time depending on my energy level- and yes I take my pulls at the front. Yes the bike helps- but you still gotta mash the pedals to make it move.

    What gearing do you use, and what grade are you pushing 600 watts up at? Doesn't look steep compared to the climbs im used too but the camera can be deceiving. Are speeds faster while in a group ride than compared to riding alone? I've never been in a group ride but in an all out sprint I can barely hit 28mph and that seemed like an average speed here. Am I just slow?

    • @TheVCAdventures
      @TheVCAdventures  8 років тому

      LOL, no bro, your not slow. Thats exactly what I thought when I was riding solo. I heard someone say they held 22mph for an hour and LITERALLY did not believe them. The draft in a group like this is MAJOR! I did a 75 min crit where we avg 29mph!!! WHAAAT! To out that into context, my BEST ever TT is 26mph for 16miles and my best solo on a road bike is maybe 24mph for an hour.

    • @Einhander49
      @Einhander49 8 років тому

      The Vegan Cyclist bro, out here in west Texas you can hit 29+ mph for at least 2 hours if conditions are right. motorist on the main highway wonder if I'm on a motorcycle when they see me roll that fast.

  • @bxckdoor9113
    @bxckdoor9113 4 роки тому

    So I assume this was a pure workout / race ish vibe ? Not actually a proper group ride because to my knowledge being from London, a group ride means working in a team at the same pace to be the most efficient as possible as a pack. Nonetheless, it still looked like a cool race group / ride and still fun.

    • @TheVCAdventures

      +Michael J. Go pro ALL DAY. way more versatile.

    • @thebutcher7000
      @thebutcher7000 8 років тому

      But how do you get the Garmin G-Mextrix overlays? Do you literally have both cameras recording simultaneously?

    • @TheVCAdventures

    • @thebutcher7000

      Last question, how do you sync the Garmin data with GoPro footage? Surely it doesn't automatically sync.

    • @TheVCAdventures
      @TheVCAdventures  8 років тому

      No, you have to load in your garmin data. Then go through an manually sync. So if you have just one clip, its not bad. But if you start and stop your gopro, ERRRMMGAWWD its a nightmare.

      lol, yeah don't do that. Put your hand up when it happens (like any race) to let the guys speeding by know you are falling back. These rides simulate races, so the same level of crashes come with the territory

  • @zerocooljpn
    @zerocooljpn 8 років тому

    omg the speed on these guys... is this normal for road bikes? 36kmh average, that'd get me to work so fast... I'm on like 25kmh (15mph) for about the same distance on my mountain bike... would I be faster if I get a road bike or should I just start training cycling more seriously?

    Hi dude! What was the pint of attacking and wasting energy on 6:58min if you were able to stay on wheel and recover? Thanks for the answer, want to understand this tactical move)
    Thanks for the vegan content, two weeks ago decided to go vegan and now I'm feeling much better so much better ( my legs and heart could ride so good, but stomach was feeling bad after hard training, now I'm super good even lost 5 kg )

    • @TheVCAdventures
      @TheVCAdventures  6 років тому +2

      The reason I attacked there, was the hill is very steep. So my attack makes everyone have to match what for what. Me spending energy is making everyone else spend the same or more if they're heavier than me.
