- At a news conference in Calgary, Danielle Smith, the premier of Alberta, announces measures aimed at addressing illegal activities along Alberta’s border with the United States. The measures, which include the formation of a new border patrol unit, are intended to address activities such as illegal migration and firearm and drug smuggling. The premier is joined by Mike Ellis (the provincial minister of public safety and emergency services), Bob Andrews (chief of the Alberta Sheriffs), and Angela Kemp (inspector with the Alberta Law Enforcement Response Teams). Responding to questions from reporters, Premier Smith also comments on Canada’s response to U.S. President-elect Donald Trump’s threat to impose tariffs on goods imported from Canada.
