Ford GT 40 Superformance Ken Miles Daytona Hits the Streets!!

- Опубліковано 28 вер 2024
- We visited Downforce Motorsports in Lugoff, SC and take the Superformance GT40 a drive. Car #98 features a Ford Aluminator 5.2 XS engine and is a reproduction true the livery of the #98 GT40 MKII driven by Ken Miles to victory at the 1966 24 Hours of Daytona. Car #98 was also featured in the 2019 "Ford vs Ferrari" film directed by James Mangold and staring Carroll Shelby (Matt Damon) and his British driver, Ken Miles (Christian Bale). If you want more information about this car or Holman Moody GT40 production, see our previous uploads.

We men of culture are here for the cars . In particular this sound. Thanks Dan for the ride!
Couldn't agree more! Most Welcome!! Thanks for the support! D
You should hear this GT-40 sing with headphones on, what a sound, amazing
@velocityjet1884 Now you are talking!!! The 180 degree headers and Aluminator's very high redline just makes the best sounds!!! Thanks!!!
@@classicperformance Out of this world mate!
I appreciate that for the most part he shifts gears, then let's go of the shifter. As someone who used to rebuild transmissions my typing fingers always itch when I see someone resting their hand on the shifter in a stick-shift car all of the time like they think it's a hand rest...
Exactly. We also get that itch when we see a continual hand rest on the shifter, holding the car on a slight grade with the clutch, etc. Appreciate the view and your interest!!
Very hard on synchro rings!
I was told today that I have 6 to 8 months to live. I had, all my life, figured one day I would somehow find a way to take Ford GT 40 out to the track for bit. Guess I won't make it. Shame. I used to race motorcycles on the track back in the day because racing cars was just way beyond my income. So here I am, knowing I will be dead in a few months, and yet, I am finding joy listening to this beast of a beautiful car. Take Care everyone. Be good people. You never know when your time will be up. I am not even 58. And the end is already at my door. --C. TESTA.
Glad we can add some comfort and pleasure for you. We are saddened to hear of your situation. Keep the faith and miracles do happen!
There are a lot of places that provide authentic Exotic car rides I would be happy to point you to some of them!

@@XLLGGX Agreed. Not only did Got give his only begotten Son, but he also gave us high revving V8 engines and the GT40!!!!
The end is the beginning.
Heartbeating!!!!! I saw the original at Daytona in 1996. And I said to a friend of mine. They were running the world sports cars back then. And I said there's not much difference between the world sports car and the Ford GT40 accept the technology. I seen the movie I love it. I wish Ken and mr. McLaren didn't pass away. And the Ford program didn't stop the way they did. It continued into the mid-1970s. I think they would have gave Porsche a run for their money. But she's a spectacular car. Right up there with the Porsche 917, 962 and Scott world sports car. The Acura NSX generation 1,2 DPI and GTP. The Audi Quattro the rally version. And Mitsubishi Evo 1,23,4,5,6,7,8,9 and 10
Very True, I was at Daytona in '96 for the Rolex 24.
That thing sounds so good! Love it. What a car!
It really is!
A great story in history about Ford Ken miles and Carol Shelby
8:30 did you hear that shift DAMNNNNNN that sounds like a god
Thank you for the timestamp.

Just found another morning wake up call. Thanks for sharing!
Good morning!
Appreciate that you did not add music for God's sake. Great video. Great car, although when I have driven these, you are really laying down. It is a GT "40" inch after all. You guys look to be "good-sized" and must have squeezed in there. No matter, the car is great. And, that Aluminator 5.2 is impressive. Not sure how worked it is, but sounds and pulls great.
You are spot on @gmonsen. We have seen a few buffet meals and probably larger by a good bit than the drivers of 1960's. But, keep in mind Dan Gurney was 6'4". I am 6' 2". Ken Miles was 5' 11" and lean at 147 lbs so a perfect fit for the car.
One of my absolute favorite cars.
Same here! I'll add to that list the Lola T70 as well...
Sounds really nice and looks amazing
Just wow!!!! Great job showing the car in previous upload too!! Great Chanel!!!
Thank you!!!
God I’d love one of these
My first time on this channel but the drivers shit eating grin says to me , hes loving it!
Thanks!!! we all love that car. More GT40 stuff to come. Check out our Holman Moody visit too!
This is in the Dayton 24hr colors. The Le Mans colors were done in a Mustang blue with an orangey red find of stripes. If I ever had the money I would do it in the Le Mans colors.
You are correct. Take a look at our other upload for some more GT40s in other livery including a Lemans Holman Moody. ua-cam.com/video/3q9eid2KnVo/v-deo.html
Pretty sure that I got pulled over on that section of I-20 when I lived on the east coast.
Glad to see that you did not get the cherries and berries in the rear view

@@64fairlane305 Wow!!! And a right had drive at that!!
@@bradwilliams1691 Sweet!!! Love that Gulf Blue too!!!!
Love everything about it except for the A pillar mounted mirrors. I would have preferred fender mounted. Still an awesome Gt40 replica.
Stephen, I totally agree. The mirrors are a necessity for good side visibility on the street and track. If you look at the previous video, most all the GT40s are finished without any side view mirrors to save that for customer preferences and use. I do like the bullet aluminum fender mounted. However, they do not give you your best side views and impossible to adjust while driving. Thanks for your interest!!!
I know it's the fuel pump and electronics turning on but I swear it sounds like a fighter jets APU getting ready to start the jet engine up HOT DAMN!!!!
Yes, the delay before turning the key to ensure all pressures are up does get one's attention before it lights up!! The car had been parked for several weeks prior to this outing so to assist starting, you just wait a couple seconds to make sure everything is primed up. In-person it's even more impressive sounding.
How I picture and hear myself when I commute in my Fiesta ST.
Absolutely, and not just a Fiesta, a Fiesta ST!!!
That entry onto the interstate shut him up lmao.

I really love this cars, look really cool...I rate your cars with GPA 3.13
Glad you like them! Thanks!
8:32-8:39 That’s how you enter a freeway!!!
Indeed so! Imagine the looks from other unsuspecting drivers when it looks like a race car on the streets, sounds like one and goes like one.
amazing
Yes!
A beauty.
Their knees are almost touching. And he's folded sideways in the car. But it's a good car for road trips. 😂
Yes, it was quite comfortable actually and rides very well with cold AC.
Love the GT40 but I would order a right hand dive/right hand shift the way the GT40 should be
Many say that. You would want to test the entry and exit difficulty with the shift lever on the sill. That might change your mind and also the Superformance has a bit more footwell room on the left side. There's a bid difference between LHD and RHD cars per comfort and entry/exit ease. None are easy to get in and out of either. But yes, RHD is way cooler!!!
It’s rude to share one’s desire to suffer. 🙂
Dream car
This 5.2 aluminator is the same engine Vaughn GittinJr has/uses in his RTR cars, no??
Not really. He uses Ford Performance/Roush Yates 455ci naturally aspirated race motor. It’s a very stout engine that’s an absolute monster. The engine produces 900hp without the use of any power adders.
Cool car
I feel for the passenger. Looks tight
It's worth the tight fit!! every second of it. Imagine at speed for 24hrs.
That blue cobra though
How do you go about purchasing one of these cars?

New EV's will never have the heart and soul of a GT40!
True!!!! -- and still not even with fake engine sounds coming through interior and exterior speakers...
Heck yeah
Heck Yeah!!! agreed!

Why no curvy roads ?
We were in the Midlands are of SC which is flat as a pancake and straight roads unfortunately. However, Carolina Motorsports Park is in the same county, so we hope to do another upload with the Superformance GT40 soon on the track there. stay tuned!
The passing lane is for passing only. Flash those fools!

The Mark I is the cool GT40, anyway.
They are all cool. I do have a great appreciation for the MKI in wire wheels.
Damn
Yes, dayumm!!!
What's the top speed on this?
don't know that data exactly. 200 mph would not be surprising
What kind of engines in that car? It's obviously not a legacy 427.
This car has been fitted with the Ford Aluminator 5.2 and Borla 8 stack EFI injection. Check out the following video for all the details and walk around. ua-cam.com/video/3q9eid2KnVo/v-deo.htmlsi=qlvtoQ_OqBbfLT_Y

It’s obvious that this car was built for one reason. And if you don’t know what that is, no one will ever be able to explain it to you.
The Truth!!! speak it! --Many today don't understand and critical of the comfort and size. Guess you had to be there.

Yep. Comfort and interior room are not the reason. Anyone criticizing that doesn’t get it.
Agreed!!! They are not for everyone, obviously.
Why does it have such a grinding noise when shifting
straight cut gears in transaxle
Looks great, sounds great but doesn't look comfortable.
Actually, once you get in it's quite comfortable and not very loud inside even with straight pipes!

With the car at 2400 lbs. The GVW for this ride looked like about 3200 lbs. 😳
Yes, we had the car fitted with ballast in both seats!! Imagine it with Ken Miles solo at around 150 lbs.
Hi-performance history on wide wheels.
True. There is also a set of 15" Halibrands that can be put on for a more period look. However, 15" tires are not the best performing by comparison.

Indeed so. What would make it even better is to have a emote mic behind the car out of the wind and picking up raw exhaust sound!!! Fantastic car!
Acredito que Mick Schumacher é um dos melhores pilotos da categoria e deve voltar às corridas
Yes, Gio we agree with you about Mick Schumacher.
The modern oversized wheels don't really look right. Same thing with the Cobra replicas. Doing that is the automotive equivalent of mayonnaise on French fries..
We would have to agree. If you watch our previous upload the wheel/tire combo is explained. In a nut shell, this car is also use on the track. 15" tires are very difficult to find in street/performance/track specifications. The car does have a correct set of 15" Halibrands too for show and cruising. These are "stickies" for the track.
That Tesla in front of you will give you a run for your money. But it will never match the sound.
0-60, I'll give it to the Tesla most likely, certainly 0-45. However, that Tesla will quickly run out of steam on top end.
I"m in love
you will save money in the long run everyone is not Jay Leno'? your are you? Merry Christmas to all larry
Great vintage value with modern drivability and reliability especially with the crate Aluminator motor and Borla stacked EFI. Thanks! CP

2400 lbs and more than 640hp ? This is a better weight-to-power ratio than a Ferrari Enzo and damn for having had a ride in it, I can tell you that is a devil of a car. I can't imagine feeling the full throttle acceleration and the raw feeling of that GT40 Superformance beast ! 😵💫

@@classicperformancewhat’s done to that aluminator for the extra power? Those are rated at about 570 horse. So what was done for the extra power?
