Damn. I've been doing it all wrong. I tried it the way you guys described and it improved my casts by 60-80 yds. Thank you! As soon as I have my shoulder surgery next week I should be on the road to recovery and casting longer than ever. I do like your videos.
Technique and equipment are all covered very well in this video. The next thing one can do to increase casting distance is to do strength training. Casting a fishing rod is no different than swinging a tennis racket, a golf club, or a baseball bat. It's no different than throwing a punch in boxing, or spiking the ball in volleyball. It's all about generating power by using the entire body to transmit force from the feet, legs, hips, core, shoulders, arms into the hands, and, finally, into the fishing rod.
I watched this video recently before a fishing trip. I've been surf fishing for years but apparently I was casting wrong. I tried this technique and it improved my cast a lot. Thanks a lot
Great video! Casting from the side is also very important to practice if you want to land the lure in precise spots near debris or rocks where distance doesn't matter.
Love the trap intro! Just ordered my first “heavy” surf rod can’t wait to try it. Here in SOCAL we use a lot of light line setups smaller lures. Going to start throwing bigger and farther see how it goes. Thanks for the help!
@Derick Jahnk This was great, thanks, been searching for "spring surf fishing nc" for a while now, and I think this has helped. Have you ever come across - Wenayden Xenaylee Blaster - (Have a quick look on google cant remember the place now ) ? Ive heard some pretty good things about it and my brother in law got amazing success with it.
Moderate fast surf rod is the best if you cast baits or plugs. They wont tear off your baits while casting. Chances of losing fish is lesser with moderate action rods. Fast action rods are not for the weaker lot as it has less spring action and depends on the caster strength to cast further. On the positive note fast action rods is more accurate. On the downside you might risk breaking the line if you fighting a fish too restless as the rod wont yield to the sudden jerks!
Great rod for the money, collapses down to about 22". Great for backpacking trips and luggage travel. Fits easily into my side compartment on my hiking bag.
posture is good, but the ONE THING that helped me cast long distances was using whats known as a casting trigger. Just get one from ebay its only like...$11? They hold the line for you securely so it doesn't slip during cast which means you can whip it with the full 100% of your power behind the line. Plus it prevents you from getting line cuts which is the last thing you want on a fishing trip!
Excellent thanks for adding something that none of the other videos I have seen mention, and that makes great sense, yep I’ve been throwing a baseball :)
Hello Zeno and RyanThank you for sharing your tips. Next time, would you please include some tips about improving the triggering, which is quite important at the casting moment and for the accuracy. I have seen many surfcasters not having a fully coordination between their triggering and their other movements to get the right cast. Given this, they finally lost their lures because they were not able to avoid rocks or seaweeds that are between them and the right spot.Thank you, and greetings from Peru.
I'm using a 12 foot high end telescopic surf rod which has the benefit of portability, great strength and a soft tip which is good for feeling fish action and striking. Do guys ever fish with bait or only lures?
15lb power pro on my light rod and 30lb on my heavier rod. I've hit dozens of gator blues on 15lb all day and lifted them from high structure with 30lb test. Never had a problem.
if anyone out there shoots a bow... i understood this info in that form factor. its hard to translate into text, but if you can shoot a bow ok, yout can cast well. on a recurve, it would be stand set pull release. set stand pull release. on a rod. its a bow with one end of the string detached. also, if your an archer, its pretty good fun to tie just a lead weight to a line and hitting shots with the rod,. same skillset but different use.
Hi I would like to ask a few question hope you reply 1) what is your rod casting weight and what is the weight of the lure u use 2) If I add power to my cast I snapp my line ?? 3) can you plz list your gear additional question (if you want to answer)) what is that cast and how do you do it it seems to be a bit different from pendulum 01:51
I just need to get better at holding the line with my finger so it doesn't slip when I cast...especially if I'm using 6 or 8 oz tongue sinkers. Any tips out there? Does the bail have to be positioned a certain way?
Very informative video. I have always used my right hand to apply force, and hence always struggled with the casting distance. Now, I will use this technique to improve my casting distance. But there is a little bit of confusion. The fishing rod is said to be an example of a third-class lever to which effort or force is applied in the middle. So, if it is a class three lever, the force must come form the right hand. Please elaborate.
Push forward with right hand, pull down with left hand. Imagine a middle point between both hands on rod, that is the (invisible) axle the casting movement does going forward with rod. 🎣
8 year video, still improving peoples cast. I cant wait to get out and put this into practice. I struggle so much when it comes to heavy rig casting. I can send a spoon, but its over when im using bait to fish. Going to confuse people with practicing with just a weight
What reel is the last guy Ryan White using? The slow oscillation is interesting! I've been looking at a daiwa windcast z but thought his looked good too.
What do you put on your trigger finger, is that to prevent the line from cutting your finger from casting? The answer was given by Akin to Meatloaf Thanks.
It's too early, but seems somewhere between a first and third class lever. Right hand pushing above the reel is third class. Left hand pulling rod butt is first class. Optimal rig trajectory is 45 degrees obviously. Why no free spool?
yes 10foot is more pier but depending on line mm should stll whack it out just try if windy and strong waves put tripod high butt end so rod is above the first 2 waves your be fine then if non weed
Looks like a Van Staal VS100BXP reel to me. As for the rod, who cares? It isn't doing anything special. If you're looking to get a quality surf rod, I recommend St. Croix. There are various models for your budget.
In two and a half minutes of this video, I learned better casting information than six hours of other videos on UA-cam.
thank you for that
SAME! I cant wait to get back to the beach to try this out
Ryan's the man, great tips on improving distance casting!
Damn. I've been doing it all wrong. I tried it the way you guys described and it improved my casts by 60-80 yds. Thank you! As soon as I have my shoulder surgery next week I should be on the road to recovery and casting longer than ever. I do like your videos.

Great content! Simple, straight forward, no fluff
I watched this video recently before a fishing trip. I've been surf fishing for years but apparently I was casting wrong. I tried this technique and it improved my cast a lot. Thanks a lot
Very helpful. I'll be using these tips on my first time out surfcasting here in Oregon. Thank you for sharing your expertise!
thanks for teaching the right casting techniques and thank you for the music, feels great listening to it.
You always good advice, well presented. This does not disappoint. Looking forward to getting out on the beach tomorrow to put your advice to use.
Excellent tips! The pull with the hand vs. the push is also the technique for fly fishing with spey rods. thank for a great video!
Well composed, great techniques, and good tips. Now, I can go try to catch more halibut. Thanks from Southern California!
Just got my first surf pole. Video was great. Thanks
Zeno, you always have the best content.
Great video! Casting from the side is also very important to practice if you want to land the lure in precise spots near debris or rocks where distance doesn't matter.
Yep but different application entirely .
Best casting video I've seen. Thanks
Love the trap intro! Just ordered my first “heavy” surf rod can’t wait to try it. Here in SOCAL we use a lot of light line setups smaller lures. Going to start throwing bigger and farther see how it goes. Thanks for the help!
This is pretty much the most useful thing that I have seen on the internet, in a very long time.

Outstanding class on the proper way to cast your line lord knows how many times i have made that mistake.
just a little thought about the cast b4 you execute it. Slow down and think about your form
Amazing video, no bs, straight to the point! Thanks!
Damn everything you said not to do about casting is how I cast lol thanks for the tips mate
Same here! LOL Gonna work on it, for real.
Guilty
I make that mistake as well lol, great tips !!

great tips! I never thought to apply them to surfcasting, but these are a lot of the same ideas I've used in spey casting for steelies
Thanks for this video. No one has taught me to cast so I've been doing it wrong all this time

USMCMama believe me I tried other different brand braids from suffix, j braid, spider wire and power pro is king.
Excellent thanks for adding something that none of the other videos I have seen mention, and that makes great sense, yep I’ve been throwing a baseball :)

That cast at 1:50 looked awesome!
the lure literally dissapears... lol. i replayed that so many times
I just need to get better at holding the line with my finger so it doesn't slip when I cast...especially if I'm using 6 or 8 oz tongue sinkers. Any tips out there? Does the bail have to be positioned a certain way?
Bionic finger mounted on rod may help, it's on some yt fishing channel's videos! 🎣

I was waiting for someone to say fulcrum. It's all about physics.
great information thanks for all the tips .

Your voice puts to me to dreamy dreamy sleep. Thanks for the tips

RLTanner7 look up hatteras jack store on the outer banks of north carolina. He owns that store.
I will be fishing for striped bass at the beach. I have a 10' pole with 30# braid. What line of mono should I use for the leader?
30#
Hi, Great information. What rod are you using there?
What do you put on your trigger finger, is that to prevent the line from cutting your finger from casting? The answer was given by Akin to Meatloaf Thanks.
+Juan S yes
can you tell me how many Ft was you rod. and where to buy it? thx
What about casting far with live or frozen bait
What's the average weight in the plugs you cast.
Is it wind like breeze or wind like wrap? Wind knots are from the line being twisted as it is wound on the reel.
Great info 👍
Can it be used to fish for sturgeon?
It's too early, but seems somewhere between a first and third class lever. Right hand pushing above the reel is third class. Left hand pulling rod butt is first class. Optimal rig trajectory is 45 degrees obviously.
Why no free spool?
If it also helped going downhill, there would be a lot of rock fishers in the emergency rooms.
Great info!
Awesome video
Solid Info. Thanks
Hi I would like to know is 12FT rod cast better than 10FT rod? Thanks
yes 10foot is more pier but depending on line mm should stll whack it out just try if windy and strong waves put tripod high butt end so rod is above the first 2 waves your be fine then if non weed
thank you. very useful informations.
Great info. I was doing the baseball cast. 🤣
@@TJXHT Depends on your height. If you're a very tall guy, you can take advantage of the longest casting rods like the fourteen footers
Great tips thx.
great video thanks
Do you use conventional tackle also
yes for bait fishing only
Good demo
Thanks for the tips
+JR TECH COMPUTER Innovation & Quality thank you
