@@LowBrassLuke The human ear isn't made to pick up the volume of a trombone either... at the distance of that iPhone. No one... would give a favorable report of a trombone recital if they had to listen to it from 3 feet away. And yet the iPhone has produced a pretty fair account of what we might perceive if we were in the room. The large element mics like that JZ are favored because they *don't* exactly reproduce what has hit them. They are felicitously smoothing out the rough edges of the sound in a way that EQ or compression do not.
No contest. The professional microphone is awesome compared to the other 2. What brand and model is that condenser microphone? Never mind I just saw When I rewatched the video.
Ribbon mics are great for brass. Often times they will pair a ribbon and condenser together and blend the sound. I happen to like this particular condenser for myself. It gives me the sound I hear. Clear but with a bit of warmth like a ribbon mic.
If you listen through headphones (even AirPods) you can notice quite a large difference between the three. It might take some time especially if you don’t listen to bass trombone a lot.
professional condenser, definitely! listening through my old "gradiente s-125"
Agreed
Don’t even need headphones to hear how good the professional mic is compared to the other two
iPhone is surprising #2.
I'm going to guess that the iPhone recording also sounds most like what we'd hear in person.
Not usually. The iPhone microphones aren’t made to pick up the volume of a trombone and with the built in compressor the sound isn’t tru anyway.

All sound good !
I like the JZ-V47 sound. It's clean
Thanks! I really like it on my small bore too.
Sure lighting is really nice
It’s great when you don’t have a studio set up that you can bring with you.

It’s my favorite mic to use. JZ-V47
Number 3!!!
Good choice :)
*looks up JZ V47 price* "oh"
lol. You can find it for $799. It’s a lot but it’s not nearly as much as some other mics that don’t sound as good.
They tell me a ribbon mike is great for brass.
