  • I grew Black Magic Kale with seeds from San Diego Seed Company.
Black Magic Kale is similar to Lacinato (aka Dinosaur) Kale. These Kratky'd very nicely.

Great stuff, thanks for sharing, healthy looking :) For 100% germination for other vegetables i germinate in wet paper towels, wrapped in cling film and then put in an airtight food container and left in a warm, dark place.

Very cool! I might have to try that with my spinach... I'm a tad lazy and avoid going outside my normal operating procedure if I can help it. But it's good to have options. Much appreciated!

Wow that’s quite a process you have going for your paper towel method!!! The tried and true way for me and what I thought was the standard way for the “paper towel method” is just wetting the paper towel, put the seeds in, fold it and then place that inside of a Ziploc baggie and boom you’re done!!! You can also set it on top of a heat mat or when I’m lazy and don’t feel like getting that out I just put it on top of my grow light until whatever is germinated which is always super fast!!!

Smash! Those plants look really good as they got bigger, you have me thinking about some kratky. Roots tell a great story, great job looking after those plants! 165, nice work!

I like how you follow directions ;-) That kale did have a very satisfying crunch, mixed a bunch of leaves in my salad today. My wife likes the larger leaves so I might have to switch over to this variety, only downside is they take a bit more space. 165 is crazy, to think that 3 people have any interest in my content is shocking, lol. The visit and smash are much appreciated!

How many days did the 1 gallon of water last? In soil it can take 2 months plus for Kale. Thank you :)

I think it lasted about 6 weeks (once put in individual buckets, about 2 weeks in). Sometimes with Kale I'll top off before it gets much below half. I don't think these made it to full size, but I kind of prefer when they're a bit younger. Thanks!
