she never got on the set of Joker, or seen Joaquin or Todd, they just called her and send whole script... she read and started to play Cello, amazing on her own
@@DDCCCCOOOPP I would say the opposite, the accesability of tools and ease of releasing music has drastically increased the amount of good music out there. I dive into a bottomless pit of new music every year that just seems better and more plentifull for every year that passes.
@fjf sjdnx I don’t believe she won an Oscar because of politics. The score she composed for “Joker” was excellent. It was hauntingly beautiful, especially in the scene where the Joker dances in the bathroom. The score plays such an integral part of that scene. Joaquin Phoenix improvised the choreography in that scene as the score was being played on set! The score for the movie stood out from the other nominees based on quality alone. Don’t get me wrong, the other nominees were great, but John Williams’ Star Wars score, for example, sounded like any other John Williams score. It was not poor by any means, but it wasn’t remarkable enough to deserve a win.
Her score met with great acclaim. Her work is just beyond words. She deserves that and more. Her work was unique, not dissing the other composers, her work was the most original and expressive.
I’ve been a fan of Hildur’s work for quite some time now and when I heard she would be composing the score for Joker, I knew something very special was going to be created. And I was so right! As an OST fan, I couldn’t be more in love with Joker’s score. It’s actually another important character of the movie. And what a powerful character it is... Hildur deserve all the recognition she’s been getting. Rooting for her tonight at the Oscars! 🙌🏻
I love the fact that she is so happy and smiley and in a well lit room and just kinda light hearted about it, but the background music of this video is just so dark and haunting. Haha, very interesting dynamic.
Hildur is my favorite recent film composer. I think she is communicating music and sound design in such a innovative and emotional way. I love her subtle approach in melody and tone, utilizing the rich timbre of the cello. Please listen to her music!
Not really any "Details of Composing In Cubase" in this video, Steinberg, other than the fact that she mentions it a few times, but overall it's still enjoying
She should have a Masterclass also she has interesting composition with Joker and Chernobyl especially. It would be nice to see her composition just like Hans Zimmer and Danny Elfman.
I watched Chernobyl and I wondered who the composer is. So googled, found, listened to everything she has available on the internet and immediately fell in love. Watched Joker and I immediately said "Hildur is gonna get the oscar for best score for this."
A true musician describing the details of her work, her artistic process and how she brought her scores to life--without ANY real mention of fame or excess publicity. I appreciated and enjoyed listening to this interview very much--she truly emphasizes what "masters of the craft" means!
Thanks for posting this - really inspiring to hear a leading composer speak about their work in this way. The approach to the Chernobyl project was fascinating - will have to go back and rewatch/listen.
Now I'm going to watch Chernobyl... because of the composer! Also, I was actually a contractor for a year at a couple of nuclear plants in the US so am curious about those sounds she used as well. I also hate the grid which is a main reason I love Cubase: it gives you several ways to either work around the grid or fit your music to it after it is recorded.
What she’s saying is so right. There shouldn’t be a “wrong way” to express yourself in music. I think music is conventionally taught wrong. That’s why the most successful musicians are either self taught or rebel against the rules. Music education is still important though. It just needs tweaking.

A week ago we played this piece in our orchestra. It was indeed quiet evident to realize that this piece could not have been captured in its entirety without the intervention of the Genious Steinberg CUBASE. Family. As simple as the piece may appear to be in its Pre build and its Post Finish Master. Steinberg with its availability and delivery system of true environmental and atmospheric simplicity of the Cello and environmental harmonics and overtones allowed Hildur to break through, with her imagination utilizing 100% of her talent and vault of riches also coupled with the endless imaginative needs in the quality of sound and feel that Steinberg embellishes this horrifying and real statement to our final destiny, I hope not. Finally resulting with a Spine chilling reminder of our environment and place for the future of our children.
If that is really her studio I love how simple it looks. No huge number of synths tons of equipment etc. Goes to show that the equipment, libraries etc does not make the composer...
I was thinking the same thing! When you see the Master Class with Danny Elfman and Hans Zimmer they have these huge studios with millions of dollars worth of equipment. She works in that small, simple studio with a minimum of gear and produces achingly beautiful scores. It looks like what most of us work with and look at her success. I have always said it is not the pots but the chef and she proves this!
Please allow us to use Cubase pro without a dongle ! Machine activation or cloud activation whichever .. we don’t really need an usb a dongle in 2020 with usb c machines please guys !
I remember being snubbed by a musician who said Cubase was too basic for them and it was for beginners or something? never had any interest in what I recorded :)
Wonderous. Truly how you brought Radiation the character, to a real and moving Soul of the Movie. Beautiful and Horribly Honest.

The first female composer to won the oscar for orginal score! Mad respect
@@devilgod136 she is the first in 20 years to win🤷
Hildur's score was AMAZING! However Rachel Portman and Anne Dudley both won Oscars for best score in the 90's.

I completely disagree. Joker's score is borderline revolutionary and innovative! A much deserved win.
Her score met with great acclaim. Her work is just beyond words. She deserves that and more. Her work was unique, not dissing the other composers, her work was the most original and expressive.
Her work in Joker and in Chernobyl are both superlative. She deserves the praise and all the numerous awards she has collected for them.

Did you listen to the music from Chernobyl, it’s as good as Joker!
not even hans zimmer could convince me to shift to cubase but Hildur might've just done that. What a well spoken and badass woman! a true inspiration.

Congrats on the Oscar, and it's encouraging to see another amazing composer work on Cubase.
Amazingly gifted! Her perception to subtle nuances is in the high range category. Much success Hildur Guðnadóttir.
Congrats to Hildur for winning the Oscar for original score!

It's a masterpiece. The dread, the horror and the sadness of that day.
Yes, you gotta watch it, it has a really believable atmosphere... You know The Fear, the sadness the Guilt, Her Score makes it much better...

In general, art is taught wrong in the United States.

CONGRATULATIONS to Hildur Guðnadóttir on willing the Oscar for the Joker!!!
If I ever made a movie she would do the scores. I’m pretty sure she also did work on Sicario 2 which is one of my favorite movies.
Great series! Please keep the videos coming, theyre great

Great talent!!
Hildur should make an album or a song with Aurora.. Probably be fire..
Great....concratz on your Bafta
We haven't heard the last masterpiece of Hildur, I presume.

Music should be an element
What is the song in first 15 seconds?
I literally have every instrument I'm this video. That's cool...... Oh except that cool electric upright bass behind her
That's a kind of modified cello a friend of hers made, she talks about it in the video
I’m in love
I saw there is Morin khuur on the wall wow
Can anyone make out the model/brand of those monitor speakers on her desk?
I think those are a pair of Adam Audio AX monitors.

Is the background music from a score she composed?
Hardcore Logic user, but Cubase is the only DAW I'd consider switching to.

what composition was played during the intro?

Why are they always punching in on her hand movements lol. It's so distracting man......
Her score for Joker is going to become for cello what Schindler's List is for violin.
👍❤
I hope she can compose as well for the next god of war.
