I feel like a lot of people know how sad this plane is. Whenever i played through it I rarely had a fighter or interceptor try to shoot me down and instead they'd just fly around me
Ahhh, I remember the days of a squad of Catalinas, flying in formation, shooting everything out of the sky, then landing on the enemy airfield and becoming mass AA as the enemy try and destroy you all.. I love how you cackle to yourself while playing. It's so nice to hear someone enjoying themselves, and not taking the game seriously...
It just so wholesome to have random fighter friends vibing with you, it really puts a smile on me after a long day. Love the vids and how about planes with cannons facing upward? Like ki-45 tei? Could be fun I think.
Racing to a bomb base, only to see all the bombers around you slowly die and crash in a firey wreckage is the worst feeling this game has ever gave me. Truly the "hope and pray" feeling because your life is no longer yours. Worst at top tier jets. Also why does the Ki-48 have a full bomber cockpit, it's insanely detailed

11:30 so if you hand figured out by then end, unlike with many other bombers from different nations that have a proper gun mount that effectively has a conical angle of fire for up, down, left and right, the tail gunner on this, and a few other bombers, instead has a fully rotating turret. The gun itself can only aim up or down so to make it aim left, right or any degree between up and down they needed to rotate the turret itself which as you experienced, throws off the aim a lot

Like they're not as boring as watching people play fighters imo😅 also just a suggestion try the french bombers one day (Not the lend lease or the NRC btw but I forgot what they're called)
Something Id love to see in game, the G5N (among quite a few other "bombers" ) was used as a transport IRL. I've done a quick size comparison and I reckon you could fit at least 2 tanks in there. Imagine landing somewhere and deploying tanks😂 that would be funny. Also you see G5Ns quite a bit in ground RB. Even funnier
Before Gaijin fixed those pesky japanese twisting gunners, the back 20mm literally only shot straight back and up. Couldn't shoot any other direction, the ki-67 and ki-109s have the same issue. In fact every few updates they break those gunners again.
A bit of trivia about this plane and why it was so bad: it is literally based on failed prototype of Douglas DC-4 airliner. Made in 1938 it was demed non economical and to slow. Prototype was sold for cheap to United Airlines who sold it even cheaper to Japan in 1939. Japanese decided to rurn it into a bomber and here we are.
The lack of naval air battles in WarThunder really messes with naval aircraft designed to fit on carriers, especially bombers and particularly those in the Japanese tech tree: the D4Y would do so much better if it didn't have to compete with land-based multi-engined bombers that can carry over 4 times the payload, as well as if it didn't have to bomb bases.
Webe, if you want a Japanese troll bomber I'd recommend you try the hidden gem that is the Ki-67-I 0tsu (the last Ki-67) Its armed with many of the Japanese super .50 cals + a 20mil so it shreds enemies and is a lot of fun haha Bomb load is pitiful, however flight performance and armament is amazing! Good for some fun
What you dont like the sunroof on this airbus that EVERYTHING in the game can catch and rip apart in a few shots. Such a horrible plane to try to grind in AirRB but i Would actually say the 6.0 bomber is WAY worse than this 4.3 G5N1 maybe try that slug out the G8N1 its by far worse and its BR is just horrible they should have both at 4.0
The G8N at 4.0 would either be broken as shit (like when the Tu-4 got added levels of broken) or it would be absolutely clobbered by XP-50s. There is no in between.
I love how useless the ai for gunners is after dumb fcks in fighters bitched. Of course gaijin couldn't find a middle ground but nerf them into the ground.
Yeah this thing is probably the worst 4-engined bomber in game and at Top 5 useless bombers in game. Would love a follow-up on my most hated 2-engined bomber.... the ABYSMAL Pe-2-1... relatively poor defensive armament and a turn rate that makes ocean liners look good. If anything outside of a stalling plane is on your 6, you cannot reliably shake them off.
Damn did they raise the spwan hieght on this bomber cause every time i remember playing it they started nme around 4000 -4500 meters and DAMN the guns never sounded like that when I played this flying tour bus. Also I think gaijin puts the bombers at a HUGE disadvantage specially with the rear gunners compared to any fighter plane. Sorry but IRL bombers took A LOT of damage before they actually got ripped apart butin WT it takes 2 seconds before ur cave in a bomber.
G'day, I still hold opinion that the P1Y1 is worse even after the BR reductions from 4.7 to 3.7 then 3.3 along with being iirc a Rank II or III now over being Rank IV. It has speed & agility but the two same autocannons & navy 800kg bombs (AP vs army HE), I honestly started landing mid battle to shoot AI's due to it be that bad. The two 20 mm are in awful spots so their arcs are just terrible & you fight nearly all the same foes as this G5N1 (niche but the G5N1 based off a US cargo plane).
