Miss you, Gil Scott-Heron. In his songwriting, he had the ability to completely empathize with the subjects -- coal miners in a dangerous job, victims of alcoholism,, an unjustly imprisoned man (Gary Tyler), etc. Enormously gifted writer, musician and singer.♥
R.I.P. Brother GIL ( Sunrise April 1, 1949 - Sunset May 31, 2011 What an tragic loss...62 years young...Gil was light years ahead of his time and will be truly missed...I can't believe Google News never even mentioned his passing...What a shame
I saw him a few years back and at the end of the gig he shook my hand and smiled this huge toothy grin....the gig was superb... shaking this great man's hand made my year. RIP brother Gil.
Im so sad to hear that the MASTER is gone!! He'll be sampled til the end of the time.... such a unique style... nobody could ever duplicate this man.. the urban bluesjazzologist, spokenwordmusicanpoet.... etc etc.. Rest in peace... Im with the rest of you!! Can't believe he's gone :(

Conheci G.Scott-Heron em Zurich em 1988 através de um amigo e tornei-me de imediato um fan profundamente identificado com toda a obra e intervenção artística. Reencontrei G.Scott-Heron em 1998 em Viena onde resido, veio actuar numa das melhores salas da cidade e, what for a show on stage !!! Inesquecível performance! a) Ao meu amigo Werner em Zurich, muito obrigado por me ter dado a conhecer G.Scott-Heron; b) A Gil Scott-Heron, Thank You So Much for all. Jaime
I didnt know he was big in the UK. I just had a british friend tell me he was a legend over there. I wish he had a bigger voice in pop America than he does
There's a couple definitions here... The definition of what is a Cool Cat And the definition of what is known as Knockin' 'Em Dead Also... Gil = Genius.
When all the others sold OUT, when the others put down their clenched FISTS, when coins, tell, N Pro wore them down to Amatuers.... and the kitchen was hot as a straightenin' comb.. Gil-Scott didn't give up Remember him, cuz the rest of us livin' LARGE... cuz of bruhs like HIM. Believe dat he's Still... wearin' FRO's and fist pumpin' for Freedom and Flight not birdies....
Who ever gave you negative feedback clearly didnt understand your statment.. He meant that HE is a Middle aged, White and British.. goddam There must have been some americans watching this video..
He could sing the phone book and sound hip. Well now, does anyone know what happened to him today?? WHere is he? I heard he was busted on a crack cocaine charge a while back and sent to prison...is that true. Does he need help? Anyone know?
I like that ... " it may soon change if you have to get your own coal " . Simple saying , so deep . You will be singing coal miners songs ..... if u have to get your own coal "

The corporations blacklisted Gil back in the early 80s. The silent McCarthyism that goes on to this day.
THEY WILL NEVER BE ANOTHER SONGWRITER/POET WHO WAS SO PROFOUND IN HIS SOUND AS THE GREAT GIL-SCOTT - KEEP ON PUSHIN' ON WITH IT!!!
I also think about Bob Marley and Stevie Wonder!!
I saw him a few years back and at the end of the gig he shook my hand and smiled this huge toothy grin....the gig was superb... shaking this great man's hand made my year. RIP brother Gil.
His spirit will live on through his artistic legacy. R.I.P. Love you Gil!!!

lol!
"somewhere live in europe"
America is fine with his music; we just understand he keeps sabotaging his career with cocaine addiction and arrests.
I see why he stopped performing the crowds became less and less appreciative and receptive to what he was saying. Thats enough to depress any artist
Really? That's sad to hear. He's probably been proven right though.............
Gil > Bob
nah shes too old, born 65. i think he has got a son and a daughter. dont hear anything about them. he mentions them in a couple of songs.
@drefish2 of course I am referring to white amerikkka. If you have been listening to him since 10 then your third eye is wide open to truth
horrible, horrible crowd
They don't know they are seeing a master at work.
