- An experiment to figure out how far you can ACTUALLY drive on an empty tank in my 2022 Ram TRX. This truck has the worst MPG out of any vehicle I've ever owned so it will be interesting to find out how far you'll get in a crisis situation when there are no gas stations around. How far can you actually drive on "low" or 0 miles to empty?

You shouldve set a cruise for like 70mph and that would’ve given you a better idea haha you kept crackin into 80+ and calling it conservative 😂😂😂. Got that lead foot!

my 2.7TT Bronco Badlands really loves the cold weather. Boosted engines love the dense air and cold charge temps. You need to get the replacement nozzles for the gas canister. i put all mine back to the old style and don't ever regret it

You got faster 0-60 because you have less fuel weight than you typically do. And well yes more power due to colder intake temps.

I Think this will always depend on a lot of factors. The computer most likely assumes that you will maintain your driving style that you had and calculates a range using this.
So if you drive like a hooligan and then take it easy after the light comes on, there will be much more range
Also the supercharged 6.2L hellcat engine, plus the big heavy tires with stock gearing is going to take 2-3 mpg off.

part of the reason the world records for speeds are mostly attempted on salt lakes is that salt provides a better friction surface than tarmac. so tires can grip better. so that "salty surface" you described in fact is an advantage point.
I'd be nervous taking the tank that low in an expensive vehicle. But that's why we watch mike.

Appreciate this I travel a lot in my TRX and I passed the last gas station one time and it showed 10 miles to Empty but this gives me a bit more peace of mind of how far I can possibly go lol

Hey Mike - Merry Christmas to you and your family. As I watched the upload, I thought that driving at 75 - 82 mph on the highway isn't really conservative. The TRX would have done noticeably better at 65 - 70 mph.

Low was equivalent to 10 miles. So, I would say 0 miles to go was 10 miles later. That being said, I would say the reserve is 16 miles. Great video!

3.5 for lower temperature and lower gas in the tank. Good video, I was planning to do this but you already got it so saves my time and gas. And I don’t have to freak out when I see the low tank indicator anymore, it’s enough for me to go around the Island here in Hawaii before completely running out.

Cold air is so dense, and that is a boon for forced-induction engines. My TRX reliably does 3.5-3.7 in Temps below 50. LOVE my truck!

What a risk taker!! I have a Big Horn 26 gal, once that light goes off its 4 reserves, some toll roads have no gas stations in sight for a good hour or so mile stretch, I wouldn't chance it. I will say, gets me about 500 miles on a full tank

It wasn’t safe. He should have parked the TRX off the lane to keep a bigger distance from traffic. Surprised that Mike didn’t seem to get that.

That’s a good time between the colder temperatures less weight with an empty gas tank 3.50 to 60 is pretty amazing.

My new TRX ran out of gas with a quarter tank registering the gage.I figure a couple hard landings possible played a roll in that.

Another way to do that is to know how many gallons your tank is and then when you go fill it up with the pump and subtract and you know how many gallons are still in your tank usually manufactures leave you 30 to 50 miles after it says zero
How much hp gain does 15% E85/93 premium blend give the TRX?
How much hp gain does 110 octane race fuel give TRX?

Was considering if I should whipple my Roush F150 or buy a TRX. So happy I stuck with my truck! Averaging over 15mpg even with the whipple and my right shoe is made of lead.

VP racing gas cans. They come with an extended nozzle. Much easier to refuel.

I get 3.5 a lot of the time with the right launch and when it’s 40° and dry out.
Looks like they turn the fuel light on when you have 5 gallons or less remaining in the tank. That is my guess anyway. Love these tests you do. Of course, nobody should make a habit out of running the fuel tank dry. That is hard on the fuel pump.

On the side of the highway tho? Dangerous. I used to do roadside service in my 20s. One shift I witnessed an old lady blow her tires out in her Audi and I pulled over to help. It was one of the most scariest experiences in my life. She rewarded me with 60 dollars. I appreciated it lol

If it dropped to low once it went under 10 miles, we can say 10 of those 26 miles were the miles to 0. The remaining 16 was the reserve.

Not a good idea to run fuel tank down that far with pump in tank setup. Fuel keeps pump cool.
Yeah I think that those range meters are not that accurate so it tells you are low earlier so you just go and get gas.

The auto makers have the calibrations down pretty good ( in drivers favor). Nice to go 26 miles longer when on empty.
It would make sense that you got 26 miles I’ve always knew that when the fuel light turns on , there is usually 2 gallons left in tank. By you getting 12 miles to gallon, that would put you in the 24 ish range
I would try not to run low on gas. I read the fuel pump can over heat. I guess the gas keeps it cool.
I once put 139.8L in my 136L F150 tank after driving on 0 for who knows how long.
I was in the middle of nowhere and didn't think I was going to make the station lol
You should put race tuner on ram TRX more speed like 140 MPH
You Should test drive Trackhawk. I cant remember if you did or not.
Next time try to put it in snow mode. I’ve been getting about 13 to 14 miles per gallon in my TRX.

Reserve is always usually 10 Litres! I estimated it would be 25 miles so yeah.
