Dan reviews Northernlion's HORRENDOUS execution method tier list
Hades is obvious bait but it's the Slay the Spire placement that _really_ sends me. Well done, Dan. You got me.
@@lordjojo1977it's good if you have the time to learn it because it's super complicated
@@tomekk.1889The beauty of STS is that is not complicated. It’s incredibly simple to understand and play. The challenge comes from the crazy combos you can create with cards which may not be immediately apparent.
@@johnharder9925 This is not even remotely true. The game is A LOT to take in at first. Overwhelming amount of combos and information. It gets even worse with the 3rd and 4th characters which are overcomplicated as hell
nuclear throne and rogue legacy in forgettabke is crazy
idk rogue legacy IS kinda forgettable, if it hadnt gotten a sequel we wouldnt even be talking about it rn

Seeing Noita on this makes me wish we could see NL play some Noita, I think he'd probably hate it but it'd be funny to at least watch an episode or two
Back seaters would ruin it but I agree. If he recorded on YT it would be POG
I think the game is incredible but slightly too cryptic and punishing for its own good, it's very difficult game to get into (even though it's so worth it when you finally get good at it)
@@pyryzer5324 Yeah agree, it's one of those games where you pretty much need the Wiki open to know wtf you're doing the first 100 runs lmao
It would only get really fun if he played an insane amount of it tbh

To be honest, I found Hades pretty mid. I didn’t hate it but it can totally understand not liking it much.

11:17 to the end is probably the hardest I've laughed at an NL bit. Ironically bad joke -> Tom cruise laugh -> "YEEEEAAAAHHH"
I respect Dan for putting Noita in A-tier
Honestly the S and A tiers are respectable picks, it's everything else that's unhinged.
@@xman9354Gungeon doesn't even come close to the mechanics in Noita. You can approach any problem in any way. Melt straight through the floor to pass a level? Okay. Methodically move down and take out every enemy? Okay. Go unhinged and set literally everything on fire as you maniacally cackle jumping down after it? Okay.
Not to mention the exploration aspect. My mind was blown when I realized there's content literally everywhere. You don't even need to enter the dungeon. There's a sky biome, the over world actually contains several biomes to explore, if you get far enough into the over world, there's even a reverse dimension over world.
Gungeon is great but Noita is insanely packed with player freedom
As soon as he started singing "Traffic Dream" by the inimitable Katy Perry, I was thinking 'wake up honey, new Librarian outro just dropped', then i was thinking 'wouldn't it be kinda pog if the Librarian used it as the outro for THIS video?', and then that's exactly what you did.
What I'm trying to say is I love this channel.
His risk of rain rating is just as baffling as Dan hating hades
The real baffling part is he put ror above ror2. Absolutely insane
do people like ror?? it sounded like NL didnt fuck with ror, i always thought it was really good. especially 2, which i do think was an improvement over 1. although return looks really good
@@demifolk8940it's literally the most popular roguelike after isaac and hades lmao. And is had overwhelmingly positive reviews on steam which is not easy to get
@@alexbruck9438Nah that’s just real. RoR1/R beats RoR2 any day of the week for me. Hell, even its mods are better.
RoR2 fails the vibe test. Sure it’s much more accessible and is easily the best 3D roguelite out there, but it’s at the cost of losing a lot of RoR’s soul.
The builds aren’t as badshit insane, the music isn’t as serious, the sense of scale is lacking, and the artstyle is too simplistic.
A lot was sacrificed in order to make it work in a 3D setting, but ultimately that’s what makes it worse than the original.
I respect mining the clip immediately preceding the end for the end song so much
HOLY what a perfect outro, NL cooking the song and i was like "Nice, one more music for the liberado" and the credits is him singing again
when i view tierlists theres usually 2 or 3 things i disagree with because of personal tastes but this tier list is just objectively wrong, does dan even okay games?
Its crazy how there is an obvious divide between action games and turn-based games. only Luck be a landlord is played with leisure (FTL can be but most people dont play like that)
@@Haughington Such a huge crime. Nuclear Throne is an easy A, if not S tier rogue-lite. It walked so Gungeon could run.
Streets and nuclear in forgettable is a sin. Slay the spire in C and griftlands forgettable is completely unhinged. He is not human.
The only possible reason I can think of for Dan's tier list being what it is would be that he has the world's worst recorded case of dementia
as i was watching i was thinking "i hope nl singing Teenage Dream becomes a new librarian outro" and i couldnt have been happier at the ending
Monster Train is B tier. It's very replayable and the soundtrack is honestly better than most. I'd also put FTL up in S tier because its both truly unique and very addictive.
Slay the Spire in C, also insane take.
FTL is in S tier for the soundtrack alone. And the rest of the game is still exceptional.
@@azewyynah, makes sense to me. Peglin is mid, and risk of rain 2 isn't for everyone. It takes a certain kind of mindset to enjoy it, otherwise it feels aimless and unsatisfying. I would like to add that I have around 180 hours in ror2 and I have every achievement.
Cultist sim and nuclear throne in forgettable is an insano take

new end slide song just dropped?
pogging out of my mind rn
Dan's list gives me a migraine every time... Still cool that he's played all of those or at least given them a chance
Love the ending with the song!
you can probably guess my big issue with dan’s tier list
What got me was a bunch of the stuff in the "Not Roguelike" tier that were objectively roguelikes.
maybe on paper they're "roguelikes" but he was right about those ones
He does the thing children do, where they just say something over and over trying to will it into existence, like calling Armored Core a soulike
Wildfrost was a great new roguelike
Slay the Spire in anything but S tier is a disqualifying take. Throw the whole thing out; it's the product of a diseased mind.
That endcard song is amazing librarian thank you
You gotta give it to NL. The way he reverse-engineered Dan's tier list was spot on.
_(Puts +2 in chat)_
I haven’t played many roguelikes, but I have played Dicey Dungeons, and seeing that in F broke my heart
It's really fun for half of the character's levels, and then it takes a nosedive into RNG Land. Starting at like, Robot 4, i couldn't believe how unfun the game had become in the span of like 2 hours.
I know the game's entire theme is dice rolls, and it's a great idea and mechanic, but it turns the game into way more luck than skill, and it wasn't for me.
Though honestly the art and music should bump it up to C tier, the OST is a banger
Dicey dungeons is boring as shit, and I went in with high hopes. Different strokes for different folks I guess
Dicey Dungeons was fun for a couple of hours, and then that was it. It was absolutely an F.
Everything else though...

i appreciate noita in the A tier. i do think it's S tier.

A) Develop a Stockholm Syndrome-esque relationship with the game

B) Run to the internet to learn more about it from external sources
You're probably gonna have a D-tier time with it.

Every time NL says gaming is cooked, i remember that he played midnight suns to completion and then i disregard his opinion lol.
Gaming is cooked because there hasn't been an endlessly replayable roguelike that lets him put his brain on autopilot mode in years.
Let's just conveniently forget that both Isaac and NL took years of improvement to get to that point.

Risk of Rain 2 enjoyer here. To be fair people like NL possess way too stunted fps/3d movement basics to get the full enjoyment out of it, so thats the main reason I think they arent the biggest fan. RoR for me is like the fps player's roguelike, and one of the only ones that has really grabbed me into spending over 100 hours on it
Forgettable is thanks for the 5 cents tier.
ROR2 in c and Nuclear Throne in forgettable is truly tasteless
Did Dan not play Tiny Rogues? I think that’s a solid B tier. C at worst
0:47 wow what a -2 take holyyyyy
dome keeper is a very fun game but having it in the same category as StS and RoR2 is wild
Only saw one other comment saying this but Cultist Sim is so far from a forgettable roguelike. Forgettable means it doesn’t really add anything to the genre aesthetically or mechanically; on both fronts cultist sim is unique compared to basically every game on the list. I would never say cultist sim is perfect but it’s not like any other game I’ve played.
Voidigo in C tier is a hate crime
It 100% deserves at least A if not S. I couldn't believe how varied, balanced, and just how fun the game was, and the biggest point that pushes it up there is that all my deaths felt like they were my fault, which i haven't felt since Gungeon, StS, and maybe DD1. Rogue-lites usually love putting bs in the game because "it's the spirit of the genre", so it really feels refreshing when one is hard but fair, and i love how *readable* the patterns are, compared to a game like Isaac.
Also the final boss is the Delirium rework we never got
It's not. Barley any weapons. The only difference is that some are strong and the others useless. They look cool but play the same. And having to chase the same bullet sponge boss around the map is just jarring. But it also has its good sides. It was fun until you beat the first run and realised that the next run plays the same. And going to another loop just adds a boss that's it.
All these games and no Towerclimb though? Why does nobody know that absolute opus
Just one more issac video come on ryab.
RISK OF FUCKING RAIN IN C WHAT IS DAN SMOKING !?!?!?

I tried playing it and honestly I'd put it in D. The gameplay felt horrible to me.
