Stick to painting, you don't know what your doing, when it come to wood finishing
the door looks good but you should have spend more time sanding the door so you didn't have at darker finish on the lower part of this door! sanding blocks are great but not good enough to remove the old finish.I also understand that sometimes is not because we don't want to do the extra work to get the job done,sometimes is the owner of the house that don't want to pay for it.

Can I get a mahogany colored glaze? I have mahogany doors at a nursing home that need refinished. They paid $38,000 for these doors and I want to make sure I do them correctly. I may send you pics of them if you would take a look. Really appreciate your videos

Is that Sherwood glaze a waterbase product or solvent? How long did it take to apply the glaze and manipulate it before topcoating it (just the time that you spent glazing the front entryway)?

Hard to find Glaze now. What could we use instead of glaze stain? Looking to a very similar Project and want to finish same day. Found the Wiping stain to match existing door color to fill bare wood. Thinking on using lacquer as primer similar to your video. What stain could I used next for final color? (Can't find wiping glaze anymore) TIA

How is a glaze different from a stain?
My neighbour's garage door paint job discouraged me from refinishing my weather beaten doors, it having been left with ugly thick brush marks, but your rag after brush technique is a great tip! I'll show the neighbour how it's done. 😉 Thanks Chris and 'best employee' Jonny. 👍

Thanks for the video I will do this to my front door it is all messed up and I do not do not want to pay $200 for some guy that messed up my tile I got ripped off now I learned my lesson never again I blocked the guy on my phone I don't want to talk to him no more guys a crook. He charged me $500 just to install like 10 tiles on the edge of my kitchen counter that's like $50 per tile and it doesn't even look good and he didn't even put any grout in it at all and he said he was coming back I said you know what just forget it and I just I'm done with him it just goes around this neighborhood doing this crap he messed up my wall too nothing he did was any good can't believe this guy.
I want to do this application on my door and sidelights (basically same configuration), BUT I have spar urethane on the door now. Do I need to completely strip the door and side lights? Or is the lacquer the material the wiping glaze is adhering to? Thank you!

what is the purpose of apply the glaze? is it used in place of polyurethane?
the glaze is only intended to give the project depth. Poly is a final coat.
Is the glaze tinted?
Does the same process apply for Therutru fiberglass doors?
I have to be blunt, if I was a customer, I wouldn't pay for that job. If I were a professional, I wouldn't post a video of that work wearing an advertisement of my company. But yes, I guess custom painting appearance is subjective. I would have stripped that lower panel down to the wood then conditioned it prior to staining. However, yes, that is how you glaze. That color combination works but only if you are looking at the top.
If you are looking at the top? Well do you usually look at the bottom?
Curb appeal from the street or on approach. Can't help it.
Oregon's Lonewolf all that Bloody effort I would have refinished door properly stripping it all down to bare wood and restained it properly.
is there an updated video on the process of refinishing a door exactly like this? i went to sherwin-williams, and they said they no longer sell glazes, but i was able to get the BAC wiping stain, laquer, and valspar eurethane - is the glaze a necessary step in the process?

@@Idahopainter thank you! it was an error on my part, the sherwin-williams store that i usually go to does not carry the glaze, but another store farther north of me, does still carry the glaze. so i think i can carry through with all your steps.!
Would you share the exact wiping glaze you found. I have gone to 2 SW stores and they look at me like I am speaking a different language. They don't sell glaze.
Yea. I can’t find glaze anywhere. They don’t sell it anymore. I’m thinking maybe trying a clear glaze sold by Lowe’s. Since he does show a stain in the process already. The glaze I think just hardens the whole thing. Not sure. @painterslife have any tips for something instead of sw glaze?
I'm getting ready to refinish my front door... plan to use a mahogany gloss stain to avoid having to use a clear coat. Anything wrong with using an all in one stain?
If the pros don't use it, you shouldn't either.
It looks like the lower half of that door must get a lot of sun exposure. It is staining darker.
do you think pre stain conditioner would help?

Trying to get the same look on my door --- can you share the color combination for the Stain? - Also - any idea on how long a finish like this lasts - my door is exposed to Michigan sun about 6-7 hours per day and looks really worn out; i bought some McCloskey varnish instead of the Helmsman - any idea if this would work? Thank you!!!!
I like to seal the door after sanding and before glazing so I have more control of the stain
Is the lacquer ok on the exterior because it’s going to be “under” the stains and the varnish as a “barrier” coat

horrible! all blotchy and with dull spots here and there. a lot of work but the final result....arrghhhh! i wouldn't only not get paid but possibly i can face a law suit. and no i wasn't there, but i did't have to. it show right here in the video. my god! he gives excellent tips and know how in other videos but this one is a shame.
