You don't need to be original. You just need to be authentic.
Amen
you should be original
no you just need money
@words-island1011 A lot of musicians and artists yes they start by copying and of course theres nothing wrong with that. Its the only way to really learn and develop lol. Eventually from that their own style and originality blossoms. most musicians and artists have roots and influences that are not original, but they themselves are. and thats what makes them different, and thats why they'll be remembered. nothing being forced at that point.
@words-island1011 i guess. but musicians force themselves to do things all the time even if they dont like it. for example they force themselves to go on stage, even if theyre nervous and dont want to. and audiences dont want to hear the same thing over and over so being original helps lol. also i think if an artist is truly original and offering something new and "different", they dont have to force anything, theyre just showing us who they are.
I love that advice. Make your own thing and people will find you.
Sup I uhm write songs and stuff you wanna collab? It'd be fun tho.
I'm doing it, and it sounds easy but is not..
Literally she has other people making her music for her lmfao
I am my own thing 😅
Aka finneas* own thing
speaking as a musician, it seems like we’re all just mashups of our favorite artists. but finding a way to make that style yours is what makes it a whole new thing completely.
❤
*love your vids, and, true, as another musician who hasn't started anything, i also think one gets inspired by the favorite things in other's art.*
Blue background, red chair, call me crazy but the theory is making more sense every day
YES BRO.
Marketing is crazy well
what are you talking about
What theory is making more sense every day?
@@Gemma_UKIlomilo theory aka the double album theory
It's the hardest thing, but once you succeed, you will be unstoppable.
It's not true. A lot of people lost themselves after a first success. Depends on your personality.
What people getting into creativity don't understand is it's a JOURNEY. Making something "your own" usually takes years and years of experimentation and experience. Some people have a knack for it younger, but the vast majority must work at it. That's not a bad thing, because time reveals. What is special about your perspective. It has a little to do with talent.
Doing your own thing is easy when you don’t know what you’re doing. And that’s where the magic happens.
@@ThatIsDopeBro Sometimes. Magic can happen at any stage, and that magic can be bottled more effectively with more experience. An open, daring and flexible mindset can be maintained along side craft with practice.
Shout out to everyone that’s going to take this advice. Meanwhile, possibly because it is coming from Billie Eilish, we’re still gonna see people settling for being a clone
She said in the recent interview that she is totally fine with young artists trying to copy her and she loves to let them be inspired because they will eventually find their own thing ahah
@@amiiae she did?
@@OfficialHavocOsiris yupp in the Late show with Stephen Colbert
@@amiiae oh, well I’ll be darned. Well, I guess I kind of have to stand on business now but I understand that take now
Exactly, there is no other nice feeling but creating something that you put your passion into that reflects yourself. Being inspired is like a recipe to what an artist is about make but not something to replicate. Incredible advice to all artists out there that wants to create, be inspired and create inspiration.
Billie knows important things as a musician.
Start somewhere. Start anywhere. Clone, clone and clone some more. Even cloning someone else, your own voice will find a way to come out. Cause theres simply no one else like you out there.
Facts 💯
Now that's advice fr
That's very on point. Being inspired by someone else's work and trying things out is key to finding your own style
Amen. Thank you, Billie. 🙏
that wasn’t a prayer💀
She is sooooooo talented😭😭😭
Girl, you have inspired me to express my song into something I cannot live without and thanks to you, my goal now is to inspire people to do the samee! I love you, you literally saved me.❤
LOOOOOVE her soooo much😭😭😭
Never drink and drive, never text and drive. Please...stay safe on the roads. Your life is on the line!
do any of y'all creative people experience emptiness in your head? how do you deal with it? how do i deal with total emptiness in my head art wise, musical wise, poetry wise etc. etc. etc. when i use the word emptiness i mean such a state of mind when you imagine that you need to create something and find out that you lack any, even the most minute ideas, sketches or whatever in your mind. like you're going to build a house and you aren't just confused about what your house would look like, where you're going to place your garage and bla-bla-bla; you don't even have any materials, bricks, cement and don't know where you can get them
just go on a ten minute walk
I feel you, I actually felt that way for sooooo long. As someone who dreams of being a musician, I just didn't know where to start (especially since I've never been in love or anything like that). And that was really SO frustrating!! Besides I always compared myself to my idols, the songs they wrote and I really felt like anything worth saying had already been said by great artists. First, I waited, without even trying, hoping something would happen on its own. Unsurprisingly, that approach didn't lead to success. Until, one day, I just started, writing anything that came through my mind. ANYTHING, even the dumbest thing ever (which was also frustrating because you feel like it is useless). Sometimes like a diary entry about my day, other times trying to create rhymes and verses (though I still find choruses challenging). According to my mood. And then, eventually, some themes kept reappearing,... I decided to focus on these, and I could finally build some songs.
This is the same with melodies and tunes, whenever I play or sing something I like, I try to record this on my phone immediately.
In the beginning, people said I sounded like other artists, which made sense because I was inspired by them (like Billie said),But I just kept exploring to find my style and, I feel like I'm on the right track :)
Anyway, sorry for the awfully long story, but what I really want to say is of course take your time, but also, and it's something I didn't really realized until then, things are not going to appear out of nowhere. It is by experimenting and trying different things that you’ll eventually discover your own way to tell your story.
Best of lucks to you ☘
@@sixt187 thank you very much for your story, I can relate to it a lot! I'll try doing something like that, hope it helps.
best of luck to you too!
@@amothelos396 My pleasure!! hope it helps too :)
Billie is my idol, my inspiration, a person who I think is amazing and talented
gotta love billie
It's not like I hadn't heard this before, but it's really nice to be reminded from time to time. Thanks, Billie. Thanks, SoundCloud. :)
That ongoing focus of inspiration over imitation :)
Well said Billie !!!
Love authentic artists ❤
RIGHT LOUDER!!!!!!!
Great advice and thank you for sharing.
I've been realizing this lately. Like up until this point, all of my work had this weight of the expectation of creating something revolutionarily profound and meaningful to many people, something historical, but all that matter is that it is meaningful to me, and that I express myself in a way no one else can. That is all art is, self expression in its truest form.
Thank you Billie
I don't even like her music that much but i like her advice
My barby BILLIE my hope ❤
Thanks for the advice Billie👌
True talk 🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾
Thanks Billie 💙
Exactly what I'm doing. Staying true to myself and being original. I know in time the people that belong will gravitate toward me 🙏
Everyone commenting like this is some earth shattering advice. Lol
Love that advice! 🖤
So true. My greatest creation is my smart, funny, big-hearted daughter. And she is definitely like no one else. Thank you so much for your music, from your fan who is 63 years old. :) You are a beautiful person.
Te amo billie, por ti le echo ganas a la carrera
advice number 1# BE RICH.
you' re giving prices... I love you.
tysm for the meaningful advice!
People just want instant gratification, sometimes even if that means copying someone 😢
Facts ❤❤❤
I needed to hear this
thanks billie
If you are an artist sometimes you need to copy in order to understand what it is the artist did to create their piece at a fundamental level. In practice it is absolute fine to copy. If you are releasing your art, make art that takes those fundamentals you learned and spin it in your own way to make it yours! Whether it's music or drawing or any other form of art, we all share the same fundamental tools to make our artwork. It's up to you to make it beautiful.
Thank you
Thanks for the advice. I was raised just like that, anything I put out has to be 100% original. That is extremely hard to do considering how long humanity has been around lol but I took that message to heart and it has stifled me my entire life. I'm almost over it though 😊
that person is you girl
❤
Billie is soooo intelegent😭
Thanks for the advice Billie. My idol is Victoria Justice because she has a lot of wisdom and she’s such a real person. She is a symbol of exciting things about one’s future but at the same time she’s a reminder to lower your expectations so that you don’t get too disappointed. I see myself in her a some ways and that made me feel connected to her. Funny thing is, I made my own inspiration before I learned that me and Victoria have similar traits. She makes really great songs.
Thanks. Youre my idol btw
inspiring
well said
The number 1 advice is know FINNEAS (her brother) he brings a lot to the table in terms of creativity, so underrated.
Good advice
I think this advice is great, just be cautious who you idolize, as many will lead you astray.

Great advice. I have said it many times. A lot of guys will argue and say everything is copying. I say dont listen to them. Be inspired.
I do indeed make anything
Auntie Billie
It was like when I wanted to be a visionary artist like Alex Grey and I was afraid to be too abstract. Then I realized I paint eyeballs in a whole different way and a whole different direction, it’s all good. ❤
Real great advice. I'm starting to notice all underground ppl sound the exact same which is why they are underground.

That's why I don't understand people who won't listen to some music genres. The more various things you listen to, the broader your identity becomes. There is more than rap, rock, pop and american music.
is there a way to watch this full interview? I keep seeing clips everywhere but not the entire thing
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Everything has already been created but it is up to you to select what the rest of the world gets to experience. Channel that inspiration into your own creations and let your art be shown to the rest of the world for what it is and not for it to be the next best thing; not for it to be something that the world has never heard nor seen before; not for it to be compared to any particular art, but for it to be the masterpiece that it already is. Share your creations for exactly what they are because they are ultimately a part of You 💜🤘🏽
Having a problem with SoundCloud still playing after completely closing the app,
Well it stops for a couple seconds then randomly starts playing in my AirPods
Oh does she
It's okay to learn frome other artists. Infact, many artist say something that's helped them learn technique is by simply trying to recreate songs 1 for 1. It's great practice. However. Copying music isn't authentic. Therefore, take the techniques you've learned and apply it to your own sound.
I miss simple content like this

Imitating is a way to learn 'craft.' It's good and fun and part of nurture/nature, but she knows the great stuff is after the skills second nature and one can really express oneself. (The problem is when people I know are talented and established stealing ideas and copying in lamely.)
I will try to make different music

Im a independent artist, im bery creative but sadly i don't have the money to make some things i wish

You are lucky if you find a great music producer 🐸 Not everyone understand how it's important for a final result of your music product. You can sing fantastic but without a good music production it's just useless.
Our inspiration comes from an artificial band member. And we still flip it!
Bones inspired the soundcloud 2014 scene, everyone was copying his style, known artist who copied his style - lil peep, xxxtentacion. Theres a quote - good artist make great artist steal
