While I must say that is one of the best endings, not the best definitelly. For me, personally, none of the games people mentioned in this comment sectio can qualify as the best, as I've witnessed much more epic and dramatic and heart-wrenching endings, or endings that truly do make you feel like a boss, but oh well, to each their own. Definitelly did get goosebumps and tear up when I saw this for the first time in my own playthrough.

Swift Rope The Sea-Emperor becomes friends with you at the ending of the game after you hatch her young. She is dying when you last see her, so those are her last words to you as you take off from the planet and she dies. Hence “you go among the stars as I fall among the sand.”

The way he looks out of the Window before jumping into hyper space towards the planet one last time, and sees that giant icy continent, for the first time foreshadowing Subnautica: Below Zero. Meaning that they were planning on making that game even before they finished this one. Like a message to the players "Don't worry, you'll be back soon enough, and that huge area of ice over there is going to be important, because that's where you'll be going." Edit: I literally can't get enough of this ending. Completed the game once, loaded my save so I can witness it again, and now I'm rewatching it on YT for the 1000th time. Can't wait for the full release of Below Zero.
Jack Raiden ik i kept on looking at the end seeing if there were any islands or shallow parts and I did see the polar area. There appear to be another 2 or 3 islands and the polar one. I was amazed when they announced below zero
U can see one at 1:10 on the top right of the planet then a black island or maybe a crater at 1:14 in the middle of the planet another island similar to the first at 1:18 on the bottom part of the planet and finally the polar part at 1:28 also your character looks directly towards the polar part a clear indication. Also the two islands might just be the floating island and the mountain island, but if that is so then the planet is microscopic as the width of the map in subnautica is 4km2 roughly
So you can't land until you pay a trillion credits so in a way you die on a beautiful planet or you die from starvation in a rocket ship because you can't pay the credits
@@Unknown_user0485 if he has enough fuel to make the trip back and land without blowing up the rocket in reentry of the planet's atmosphere you don't know what its compounds is for all we know its much more dense its pretty risky

Funny how they have the entire launch sequence setup so it's like that. You never truly leave the planet, just some fancy effects around the top of the rocket to make it seem like you do.
*Fun fact you aren't actually going off planet, it's just the world going around your screen to make you think you get off planet. You can turn the rocket upside down and launch it if you don't believe me*
