      Josh this PATRICK BET-DAVID moron honestly tries to argue that grown ass people are not able to use their free time in a way "good way" that is beneficial to themself and that is why you need an employer basically as your parent to make those decisions for you😆. I swear those CEO's or whatever this guy is get dumber with every single day they feel their own power over workers dwindle a bit in those recent years and that is why they freak out and try to psychologically manipulate people trying desperately to tell workers that more leverage and more freetime is somehow actually "bad" for them......

    When you listen to nurses who have been next to thousands of people on their death beds, not a single one has ever said, boy, I sure wish I would have spent more time at the office. Their biggest regrets are almost always that they wish they would have spent more time with family and friends. A quote I've heard before says " No success in the world can compensate for failure in the home." Great video Josh.

    So my job went to 4 day 40/hr work weeks. This started a year before the pandemic. This opened up many opportunities for hobbies I have been putting off and being around the family more (new child). I got more errands done and had a extra free day to enjoy.
    When Covid hit I was able to work from home instead of being laid off and had a 5 day work week.
    When the covid policy laxed a bit and I was put on 4 day work again I picked up even more hobbies and developed new skills. 3d printing, video editing etc.
    This guy lives to work which is fine for him but not everyone follows the same path. Does he think people with free time are committing crimes and licking lead paint?
    [not]Funny how he glosses over more hours "worked" ≠ more productive work.
    I wonder how you stay sane watching these sociopaths.

    • @solomonjenkins9505
      @solomonjenkins9505 Рік тому +17

      I think calling him a sociopath is way, way too far, and far more absurd than anything Patrick said.
      However, I do agree with your points. All of them. Better to have 4 longer days than 5 shorter ones because when I hit the zone, there are performance gains, and a super long day helps me get right to the center of the zone. There's so much spin up time. To be honest, I think a 3 day work week would be ideal. 13.5 hours a day, fine, no biggie! Way, WAYYYY better than what we have now. I like having free time because I have lots of hobbies.

    • @hawtdayum
      @hawtdayum Рік тому +1

      He/She may not be too far off on the designation.
      Socio path is a person with a personality disorder manifesting itself in extreme anti-social behavior and a lack of conscience.
      He wants not 4 day work weeks but 6 day work weeks. "people need 2 hrs of free time"( to do errands) max. That is insane talk. Did you watch the video? 0:12
      That means 1 day to unwind. If you want rest you aren't successful.(by his definition)
      Yeah I'm sure I am wondering all the time if "I'm important or can I be used" by my employer.
      His sycophants agreeing is confirming that they are either yes men, agreeing with anything he says, or believe the crap coming from his mouth.
      Family, religion, friendship. These are the three demons you must slay if you wish to succeed in business.

When I was 12 I had a sleepover with my friends and we peed in the street at like 1am and a neighbor apparently saw us out his window and called the cops. 6+ cop cars showed up and I got taken home in the back of one. I'm 23 now and looking back on it I think that was fucking hilarious. Especially now knowing I wasn't in any real trouble for that. In hindsight, even though I did plenty of wild things after that, part of me wishes I didn't learn my lesson so easily. • @JaredTVW
    @JaredTVW Рік тому +45

    17:47 oooo, that stuck a chord with me. I had literally paused about ten seconds earlier to grab my phone so I could comment, then he said exactly what I was thinking, “They want to leave a legacy.”
    My dad started the career that would shape his entire life the year I was born, 1988. And he retired well after the age of 65, in part due to him not being able to separate his job life from his personal life. He created something that was his and he felt if he let it die, a part of him would die too. He felt like his job was his legacy, even though he has two sons, his work was how he left a mark on the world.
    After retiring, he finally decided he could live out his life in some of the ways he dreamed of. He wanted to live out in the countryside, he wanted to live more off the land, he didn’t want to be so public, and now he was afforded the time to do all the fun activities he always loved to do and the things he dreamed he would do during retirement. Except, things were much harder for him.
    First of all, he was so old that many of the activities he loved doing were too intensive for his older body, he would get so tired so quickly and not be able to even go out for too long. His new housing situation was a lot more work than he imagined, he has to have help chopping wood for his wood burning stove to primarily heat his house during winter and land maintenance is hard in general when you are older. He thankfully has good people willing to help, but without that, his dream surely would be a nightmare.
    On top of that, even though he no longer is working, he literally recreated his office space in his home. It’s definitely odd to me, I mean I suppose he could use it to do any paper work, but it almost seems like a coping mechanism for him.
    If you cannot guess, my dad worked his butt off. Working usually 8-12 shifts throughout the week, and eventually taking shorter days on Fridays. He barely spent time with his kids, his work-life balance caused him to lose at least one marriage and it was clear to both my brother and I how difficult it was for him to separate his work from reality. Which is why neither of us desired taking over his successful business. Even the man who did agree to take my father’s business by his terms ended up fulfilling his role quicker so that he could sell the business to a partner and he moved back to where his family is to be closer and spend more time with them.
    I believe these men know nothing more than what they are committed to. It’s impressive for sure if they are successful and committed to their job first, good for them. But it is not every role of every worker to be committed like that. These people can make that decision if they choose. But it’s absurd they are critiquing other countries for finding value in separation of work and life.
    If they aren’t careful, they are going to wind up like my dad, feeling empty not working anymore and feeling empty not being able to do the activities he loved when he was able. And retirement will be more empty than fulfilling.

I'm not faulting him for that, as it has obviously helped him to get him where he is. The problem I have is that, as intelligent as he is, he has an enormous blind spot in thinking that everyone else should be exactly like him, or they are practically worthless. Plenty of people work just as much and ever "harder" than he does, and still don't get where he is, and never will.
    There is only so much room at the top, and the fact of the matter is that until we all get replaced with robots, we need people who work menial jobs. Plenty of people work damned hard and their salaries don’t keep pace with inflation and the cost of living, yet corporate profits just keep on rising. All of these “successful” people believe that everyone else can make it just like they could, and it is just not true. As you said: There are only so many spaces to climb into, and sometimes working hard and being good and dedicated has exactly the opposite effect of what you want - You NEVER get promoted because why would they? You’re perfect for them right where you are. Once you’re not young anymore & have family and financial obligations, it’s harder to job hop. And you get to start at the bottom again.
      Have a boss/management that doesn’t promote internally? Have racist/sexist “leaders”? Have a “good ‘ol boy” organization? Good luck if you think working harder is going to overcome any of that.

    Long ago, I worked for a company where I had a boss I did not get along with at all, but one thing that she was open to was an idea presented to her by two coworkers in our department that they wanted to shift their workload to complete their tasks in a four-day work week and she was open to it. Unfortunately, it didn’t happen because our department was disbanded and our jobs were sent overseas, but this was several years before all people had high speed Internet, desktop computers still outsold laptops, and wi-fi was unknown. If employers were open to the idea of a four-day work week way back then, the technology today is more than ample enough to make the workplace more flexible by allowing people to work from home and work a four day week. And people WILL get the objectives of their jobs done while allowing them to do more with their lives outside of work and be much happier.

The 4 day schedule is to make work time into "productive time" not just crunch the same work week into less days. (I've worked 3x12, 4x10, 4x8,5x8, and 80hrs 1 week w/ 1 week off). The only schedule that actually changes work time to being more productive was the 4x8. All the rest don't actually give you back any hours for free time

In a 10 + 1 hr commute + 8hr sleep + 1hr to get ready/settle down when you get home, leaves you with only 4 hours to do what you need, like shopping, errands, etc. 8 hr day you get 6 with. For me it was I always ended doing all the "extra" stuff I would do after work on Friday, basically making it not really a day off. This is why the 4x8s is just so much better. Another guy, who is the Golden Child (but genuinely a nice guy) because he can work, and work, and work endlessly is on Adderall! And I’m not speculating; he told me so. Yeah, no wonder he can focus in a room full of unnecessary noise, while my 15 year older ass is over there pulling my hair out, trying to think straight while the others spend hours telling loud stories, laughing and generally screwing around half the day. The state has great weather, loads to do, and high paying jobs. It costs a lot to live here because access to those things is valuable and there are people with money willing to pay for it, driving the price up for everyone. In my job, there is an 80-something-year-old man that comes in to work two days a week. He is already technically retired. He goes to the gym every day, then he comes to work for 4 hours on Tuesday and Thursday. He only works because keeping his mind active and helps him live a more fulfilling life. THAT is why he's doing better than most people his age who are retired. It's not the work itself, like I said, he works an 8 hour work week. Instead he has something to go out and do, something that keeps his mind active. Something to keep his brain from atrophying. That's the indication made by the studies they're trying to use as an excuse to work people to death. Edit: turns out he's 90-something.

And as an adult, I use my free time to work on things I find worthwhile independent of my day job, I don't need anyone's help doing that or figuring that out. And that's the case for A LOT of people, we aren't little loss sheep in need of herding and that mentality needs to die quick, fast, and in a hurry. You give your life purpose and meaning--it doesn't need to come from other people and it sure as heck doesn't need to come from a corporation.
