Freebass Society was a big part of my life for a few years. NOLA had one of the best scenes for a few years late 90's early 00's. Moonshine was one of the best raves that came through each year.
@FABRIZZLE Hellz yeah! I remember rolling balls in the State Palace during Supa Phat Hong Kong Phooey Twooey and looking back to see 50 of my friends all doing the same thinking what on earth could be better than this! IYHYK and I'm sure you do!
43:44 This is exactly what it was all about. When I started going to parties it was right around the time that my mom was diagnosed with cancer. At 18 years old that was a hard pill to swallow. Once a month my group of friends and I would get together and go party. It was my only escape from the nightmare I was living at the time. It was my therapy and gave me so much to look forward to. Even my Mom would be waiting for me to return home so she could hear all about it. Lol. Cool Mom she was.
Shoutout to all the dj's listed on here. So many nights dancing late 90's early 2000s club and rave scene in New Orleans listening to all yall great DJ's. What an awesome joy and experience it was back then.
.... now just look at where we all are! 2021 / 23 / 4 Ha! I now consider myself one of the lucky ones, being that I was able to witness and live and dance and just to have human contact in general, and love my fellow humans through the musikkkk while we danced as the records spin!!! Loved this video! Man so so much fun those Caffeine Parties were!! 💜🦋💜 Aint no party like a State Palace Party!!!!
@@sidvicious0071 As time went on I gathered just that very thought!! We threw tf down at the Palace in every way!! Disco Donnie knew how to get the Dj’s there!! Shit was awesome!
Thank you for this trip down memory lane. My first party was in Columbus, Ohio 1993. I just leveled up to age 50 last October and I'm still tearing up the dance floor. I miss my 24 yr old legs though. Lol! PLUR
93 things were just starting to kick off in the States. I can't recall the year but mine was in Chicago in like 95 or 96 and Derrick Carter was playing.
1st Rave was Cleveland 420 96, second rave was in Columbus at this giant ballroom, Frankie Bones was a headliner. Third was Phantom 45 in Chicago, 4th was Family Affair 3, 5th was at an abandoned factory in Dayton. I moved to SoCal mainly because of John Kelly’s Funkydesertbreaks. I’ve been from sea to shining sea raving this era, it will never be duplicated! They don’t party like WE used to!
baby raver here and these comments give me so much hope ! i sometimes feel like the scene is losing the magic even tho I’m just starting! Determined to find like minded individuals to spread PLUR with ❤
I Loved Christopher Lawrence and DJ MIcro's sets. I really dug the Moonshine label as it was a little more local and less mainstream then the big DJs of the time Sasha Digweed Oakenfold etc.... although i loved those guys too haha
Sasha and Digweed and Oakie were all out of Europe where Electronic music was far more popular and already becoming mainstream when it was still in the earlier days in the States. Moonshine was like one of the first bigger labels in the States. Definitely not local but I get what you mean. Its funny seeing these guys young again especially Carl Cox. Dude still shows the youngsters how its done.
Funny Story about Sasha and Digweed. I first saw them in Memphis of all places, can't recall the year but most definitely 98 or 99 or in that area. The night of the show I was on Beale Street before it started and me and my boy were walking down Beale when suddenly there is Sasha and Digweed right in front of us. Of course we thought it was amazing we were on Beale with Sasha and Digweed and when we got hyped up meeting them no one else around knew why we thought the dudes were something special. Plenty of confused faces around. I think Digweed was just voted #1 DJ in the world while Sasha was like # 3.
The San Francisco event i single handedly set up the main room intelligent lighting and the truss. Was so tired delirious that I put the jungle rooms lighting in the wrong room that was the clockwork local house room. I just remember the sickest set of the party was dieselboy.
Too bad, most of the true love that existed at raves is now gone! Now its all cliques taking selfies trying to look "Lit" for worthless likes! R.I.P. PLUR! You will be sadly missed! Not a single day goes by where I don't think of you Nostalgically!
No comparison to EDM of today. . . . music has different attitude, dance has less style, The people have less character, X is different compound all together and most others very adulterated. Djs have different mid-set - hard to believe the 90's magic was able to exist. . . such a beautiful moment in time where culture utopia was winning - - -then MEDIA happen. their obsess to talk about something they knew nothing about.
The underground is much harder to find these days for sure. You can find a festival or some giant club everywhere you turn though. I'm sooo glad smart phones weren't around back in the 90s and the very early 00s. Pics are enough. Dont need any videos floating around of myself from back then. Its for the best.
This brings back some good memories. I remember finding this dvd at the mall back in the day (Hot Topic lol). I purchased this and another good rave movie/documentary titled: RAVE NATION THE MOVIE (presented by floor9films). The soundtrack was by DJ MEA and THOMAS TROUBLE. I've been looking for that VHS forever. Does anyone know where I can purchase/view it online? I've been looking everywhere with no luck. Thank you for this upload though it really took me back... PLUR!
I am 32 been raving since I was 18 I started raving in 2007 and the raves are different from then to today these new ravers are a bunch of young kids looking to get drugged up
See the ending is tough to watch being a 90s/early 2000s raver..having to deal with the legality bullshit just killed it.. for me anyway..the producter companies having to try and be more "professional" and doing the big one room concert type shows took all the fun out of it..was a new england raver so we had places like the lunatarium(nyc), the met(ME), skate key(nyc), the muni(CT), tunnel(nyc), limelight(nyc),and my fav Asylum(MA), clubs and warehouses open all night with no dress code and u could smoke..they had multiple rooms with an incredible diversity of music..if u didnt dig the shit in the main room u had three other options to choose from..u could walk around meet people and explore different little chill spots..it was fuckin grimey but awesome..but really the best part was u could do pretty much whatever the fuck u wanted unless u were a total moron( which theyre were plenty of)..and not that i wanna condone drug use but lets be honest they were rampant and we used them all heavily cause they took those parties and made them over the top euphoric..everyone was lovin each other and it was incredible..what killed it was the 16 plus deal and the younger fuckers who couldn't handle there shit..dont get me wrong i started at 16 but for some reason we could always handle it..literary some of the best times i ever had and would kill for 1 more!🤪
In NOLA that must have been after Diso Donnie gave in trouble with the DEA after an underage girl died at one of his shows. Donnies promotion at the time was called The Freebase Society and had been throwing huge parties arguably the biggest in the country. Being from the region I can say NOLA never gave a shit about drugs and alcohol. Mardi Gras wouldn't exist. As you get older though you see its mostly the younger kids 18, 19, 20 year olds are the ones doing the majority of the hard drugs. The older crowd mostly stays away.
I spent many of Saturday nights at The State Palace Theater. My good friend's sister knew Disco Donnie. The rave scene in NOLA in 98-01 was definitely one the biggest in the country at the time. They came through with the Crack House Statute and that was that. I sure have plenty of great memories though of my times there. Moonshine, Super Phat Hong Kong Phooey Twooey, and Zuluu, just to name a few of what we used to call "parties" in New Orleans. If you know, you know.
@Paul Mauroner You can't forget "Psychedelic Pimp Daddy Land" or "Vampire Stripper Sluts from Outer Space." You are so right on calling them Parties as opposed to Raves. The word "rave" was almost like a dirty word in the 90s. With all the negative press that the news would put out there about them while always referring to them as raves, it was usually best to call them parties, especially when in the company of non party goers.
I went to some no age limit parties in the 90s and literally would see like some 13 year old at like 4 a.m. and I never was comfortable with all age parties.

State palace and riverboat
State Palace was legendary
Moonshine, Zoolu, Psychedelic Pimp Daddy Land…. So many! So much fun! The SP was ALWAYS so facking hot though!

Hey I'm curious how did you discover this (American massive)???
Man D Fuse in his cowboy hat brings back old memories. D Fuse was always highly underrated imo! He was a cool dude in my experiences with him.
I still own this on dvd. The full limo ride with frankie bones, keoki and micro in the special features is pricelsss
Nothing like it. Miss that time so much.
I remember my big brother buying this dvd at sam goody at the mall. I was in 7th grade and wanted to go to a rave for the longest time lol
I was there! I lived it................and still living it!!!!!
no comments? wtf this is Awesome!! I miss these days!!
Bring that funky shit back !?I mean still alive dj jaremedy
I saw thar whole list in Dallas throughout the 90's!
Then in the 00's i had the pleasure pkaying with them as a local Dallas DJ at The Lizard Lounge!
20:49 AK1200 Drowning 😍
The BEST!! Got to see him do that song so many times. Amazing!!
i went to this tour at Shampoo in Philly. that was the first time i heard Dan play Needle Damage

Frankie Bones was always really cool. And John Kelly with his desert break beats was always amazing live.

I loved Planet of the Drums but to many tweekers were in D&B rooms. Some were just dark weird rooms.
Where's DJ Micro!?! He's the best wow takes me wayyy back
I still bump Beats 4 Freaks to this day...
Nice some footage from Nation(Buzz) in D.C.! So many great nights there! Now just a parking lot for a baseball stadium :(
I went to nation quite a few times. I have tons of flyers from those events in my collection.
Part 2 please
The San Francisco event i single handedly set up the main room intelligent lighting and the truss. Was so tired delirious that I put the jungle rooms lighting in the wrong room that was the clockwork local house room. I just remember the sickest set of the party was dieselboy.
trip down memory lane~ miss those carefree daze~
Somewhere in that crowd is my mom rolling.
Are we related?

There are still places and events where PLUR lives on. Electric Forest for example.

PLUR isn't dead. But i guess it depends on where though. But i think a lot of people still have that PLUR mindset.
When the info line hits... many will never understand.
And the location of the rave isn't disclosed until a few hours before

Pure Country was a really weird time in New Orleans
This is history thatm any of the modern crowd no nothing about its crazy how it's changed to a different format now
I would love a track list. This music is insane 🙏✨
Anti-Crack house law in the 2000 killed the scene. Last raves of this kind ever.
10:15 John hit the nail on the head.
When you start with THE pacifier you know you’re in for a ride 😂
:50 that girl really reminds me of Britney Spears 😆
What’s that track in the Charles feelgood interview?
11:19 Carl Cox!
14:35 I hope this guy is healthy still kicking ass
Freebass society
32:25 HAHA All Sport!!!! Who the fuck has even seen that in the last 10 years?
Minute 44 John Kelley says it best.
What year was this.
Micro...I love you but we'll never forgive you for no-showing Beyond 8 in Winston-Salem...
At least Rabbit in the Moon was there to tear it up
Anyone know when Moonshine music shutdown?
Probably around when major labels realized there was money in dance music. Early 2000’s
What year was this?
What year was this filmed?
Mostly 2000
