My dad absolutely loved the island of Barbados, having been introduced to it by his great-nephew. He went back every chance he got, and even joked about retiring there. He passed away in August this year, and I had this played at his funeral. 💔
We used to vacation in Barbados as a family each year when I was growing up. My dad worked for Air Canada and so we got free (stand-by) air fare, which is why we were able to travel all the way from Vancouver to that island paradise. After my dad passed away in 1998, my mom took a bit of his ashes and scattered them in Barbados. When she also went a few years later, my aunt and uncle (her brother and his wife) likewise took a portion of her ashes and scattered them, thereby making the island my parents' resting place in part. Thank you for sharing about your dad. As we were told once after many visits, by one of the locals, "that makes you part Bajan", so your dad must also have left this life part Bajan. Pretty hard to top that.
I lived in Barbados for 7 years from 1958 to 1965. All during my teenage years. Will never forget those fetes. I saw the Merrymen play many times. Love them!
I am thinking about Beautiful Barbados today. Missing her time for a trip. Emile hang in there .Pride of Barbados ☝️ musical you put us 1st on the map ❤☝️ Now look at us🙏 God continue to Bless and protect her people going forward
I first heard the Merrymen when I was stationed there in the US Navy from 1976 -1977. I loved the people and the island of BARBADOS!!! I feel in LOVE with the island girl of Judy D. Banfield of St Lucy!!!! I will NEVER forget that little piece of HEAVEN. Ronnie Barrier SH2, United States Navy!!!
My first visit was in 1982, honeymoon in Margate Gardens and we went on Jolly Roger and heard the Merrymen. I fell in love with the place and the people. Across from apartments was MEG'S Plaice for fish and chips and a small beach bar, next door was the Windsor hotel. Had great nights at the Carlisle disco and Rockley beach disco and also went to see Gaby at the Magic Isle I think it was. Our last visit was so different as the island was Americanised.
Unfortunately time must move on, and progress must be made. Charming as the island was in 1982, it deserves, like everywhere else, to progress. The US and UK are also very different to the way they were in 1982.
I had three holidays staying at Margate Gardens in the late 60"s early 70's. I recall Mrs Blade rubbing her horse linament oil on my badly injured ankle. Always enjoyed the Merrymen performing at the 'Pepperpot'. Happy days.
Today, I still like to remember this beautiful island. To the kind people and particularly to the wonderful music I visited Barbados in 1970 Ludwig from Germany
Que de souvenirs . Que de joies , d'amour , de soirées . Inoubliables ; le bon temps passé avec eux sera toujours là , simple mais au combien a jamais oublié .
I love you Musik. I met you, when I was there in 1984/5/. And I have merry Peter Haessig, Swiss Consul, at this time. I lissen once a week- Beautiful Barbados- and then I always to cry😢. I love you and Barbados so much. It was my best Time in my live. 🎉❤
I bought one of there cds when our cruise ship stopped in barbados and this song was the opening track. Every time I hear it now, I think of the cruise. His oos on the intro remind Me of the hawaiian singer Is.
My mom took me to Barbados 44 years ago. I remember they used to come to Toronto every year for a long time. I was thrilled to see them when they came and played here, Niagara On The Lake, 2 years ago in 2010. My mother, as I do, have every vinyl record cover that was produced. I don't have the link, but if you search you will be able to see all the album covers there ever was. The covers are like a photo album to me. Search the net, you can find all produced. Don't forget the recording studios!
Got a vinyl copy of one of their albums during a trip in 1983. Plus a couple of albums by Mighty Gabby. I'll put the album on mp3 one of these days! With the nice crackling sounds which I love.
I saw them in 1972 at the Pepper Pot, in Barbados. I saw them once in Montreal, Qc, Canada, again in the early 70's. What great memories, love, love them.
Hi BB, Are you Bajan? My mom took me to Barbados in 69. I kept going every year until 89. It almost hurts to think of it, those were very special years, Wish I had breathed in deeper, relished every moment a little more. Sailing up the coast on the Jolly Roger & dancing to the Merrymen! It was so beautiful. Such special days! I will always remember eager to feel the sweet hot air hit my face when the plane landed, facing the planes doors waiting for them to open & that Barbdos air rushing in!
@unit36 I'm happy to hear that you enjoyed this one by the Merrymen. Yes, I do agree, it is quite soothing and it does help to make it through a hectic day and other tunes that are a bit to harsh on the eardrums.
uncle and a lot more to do. it will take a few years 🕘 to do it, 🕘 to do it, I will have an opportunity. please contact our call me if I'm going with me on 🕘 to do this by now that I'm going with me on this website and see you
Part 2: Do you know why the beach had the two names? I new Rockley for a fair number of years, then I heard Accra. I never got a clear answe. Just Curious. I was trying to remember Cheffet. Is it still there? Goddards Store, is it gone? Wish I could write a normal email. So much to say. I've wondered about making a trip back. There's that part of me that wants to remember the Barbados I first fell in love with. I'm being silly? My Barbadian connection is deeper then I've said.Love East Coast Rd.
It's really nice that you took the time to make a reply to my comment. I read what you wrote under the "Ivory" video and you helps my grasp so much more. The PepperPot! My frist time my first night in Barbadoes, then they moved to th Plantation. It was nice but I always missed the PepperPot. Since I wrote my first note to you I did a Google Maps search, I was trying to find AccraBeach. That was the beach that I went to for years. I have a question. I first knew it as Rockley Beach, then Accra...
@juniorsjoy Hi there Juniorsjoy, I can confirm that this is indeed The Merrymen of Barbados (the one and only). This particular performance of Beautiful Barbados is a recent remake on their part some 40+ years later. What I will try to do is to send you some links to their more vintage 'stuff'. Have a listen to those links and then give me your feedback. Have a wonderful day.
@NENARENA1 O.k. I will check with someone on this end and see if I can provide you with step by step instructions on how to install the file as a slide show. I will get back to you on this. Have a wonderful day!
@cobybrouwer Begrijp je wat het nummer is te zeggen of heb je gewoon de muziek en het ritme liefde. Het moet leuk zijn leven in Nederland in het voorjaar en de zomer zijn.
