Waking up Brooklyn with a Kahlenberg T-3 as we depart 65th Street

  • Having tied on to our barge, we depart the 65th Street float bridge in Sunset Park in Brooklyn. As we pull out, Jim blows the horn to signal other boats in the area that we are departing. The horn atop the John P. Brown is a fantastic sounding Kahlenberg T-3. From here, it is a 30 minute ride through New York Harbor to Greenville Yard in New Jersey. As we continue to turn around, Jim calls the Traffic channel, which is tied to the harbor, to let them know that we are on the move. The Traffic dispatcher then tells us we will encounter one tug and barge in the Bay Ridge Anchorage, which we see at the end of the video, as well as one oil tanker. However, we wouldn't have any other real impediments. As a side note, notice as we pull away from the float bridge, NY/NJ SW1500 1133 is smoking it up real good as it heads back into the yard. Enjoy the sight of all of the rail cars on the barge, which is the last one in operation in New York City, as well as the great sounding horn and the conversation had by Jim and the Traffic dispatcher. If you have any questions about the video, feel free to message me. Comments are welcome. The video was taken on September 20th, 2012.

heelsrule1988 The Hartford Wolf Pack use this horn. The Canes use the old Whalers horn which is similar but a much lower tone

This is apparently the Islanders horn, the Hurricanes use a Q-4. But this sounds more like a Q-4.

Even though it's a T-3, the Isles' goal horn, this sounds more like Carolina's goal horn. Carolina uses a Q-4. Hartford did too.

Kahlenberg won't let me buy one, they emailed me saying that they're not interested in being contacted by individuals instead of companies...

Make yourself a LLC and get the requirements, then buy it. Or just go to drydocks and marinas and look for scrapped ships that still have horns.

No, this one is very similar to what the Islanders use, but it is not exact one. This one is no longer made, and was replaced by the T3a model due to marine regulations changing. The only difference between this one and a T3ais that this one has longer trumpets, therefore produces lower tones. The Nashville predators use a Kallenberg F3.
