- Taking it all apart to start over! This video captures the real-life challenges of [Check out Rosetta Stone here: partners.roset...] our ambitious journey to buy and convert a campervan in Australia within just thirty days.
During week three, things took an unexpected turn, forcing us to undo significant portions of our work and restart. This ordeal unfolded while we were living in the van in a carpark, presenting a unique set of challenges.
Adding to the complexity, we faced a stubborn door that wouldnt close, a leaky roof and central locking fails combined with Melbourne's unpredictable weather throwing us curveballs. It was undoubtedly a tough week for us. But we persevered, gritting our teeth and knuckling down to ensure we didn't lose sight of our ultimate goal.
Join us in this candid account of our journey, where we confront the realities of van life and the DIY conversion process. We share our mistakes, setbacks, and how we overcame them, all while striving to meet our ambitious 30-day challenge.
Whether you're an aspiring van lifer, a fellow DIY enthusiast, or simply curious about the intricacies of van conversion, this video provides valuable insights and inspiration. Don't forget to like, subscribe, and hit the notification bell to follow our challenging adventure.

⤈ WHO WE ARE ⤈
We are Philly and Keely and we live full time in our tiny home on wheels Martha. After building our DIY home in a Citroen Relay camper we spent a year living on the streets of London before quitting our jobs only to be met with lockdown. Then we took our van further than she had ever been before to the very beautiful Turkey. Enroute, we stopped off in Spain for a few weeks where we experienced every van lifers worst nightmare, we were robbed and they stole all valuables in our van. But then we were back on our feet, fully MOT'd and back on the road through Europe before we experienced another vanlife nightmare... our van caught fire!! After the trauma of that we had a massive change of plan and made our way to Japan. We enjoyed a three-month Japanese Adventure and then got back to Martha for some new European Adventures. After an incredible three-month Scottish road trip, we have now packed up our van and are heading to Australia for a new van life adventure!

The look on Keely's face when cutting the foam, priceless. You two are doing a great job
🤣🤣🤣
You did AMAZING with the bed. You deserve a guy like Steve offering you his covered space.
Really LOVE how your van is coming to be a livable space.
Thankyou so much 🥰🥰 so happy to have this inside space to work on the van now woop woop
What a wonderful person Steve is and for both of you to have a place to work without worry of the elements. That rain that came down was incredible. Keely your laugh and expressions are priceless. Wow the work that has been accomplished. So gorgeous.
Thanks so much 🥰 yeah so grateful to be in our of the rain
Y’all are doing great!!!! Totally worth taking the 25mm off… and thank goodness for the kindness of strangers and that you are out of the elements. Y’all bring me so much joy❤❤❤
Thanks so much 🥰🥰 yeah so glad we just did it, my spine is thanking me already haha
Yay what a great bed !! Thanks for congratulating me too for my part in it, it was hard work watching... but I helped 🤣 It's a pity you can't support the whole mattress because it'd be good to use the whole space. Wow mathematical drawings and plans, I know you'll make a great result. The sacrifice of food over vanbuilding is so commendable !! Well done you 2 ! ❤🚐
The sacrifice of food was potentially a mistake 🤣🤣
I'd love a segment on the words we Aussies say different!! I personally love hearing about the language confusion ❤
Loving watching your build 👍👍
Thanks so much! I'll give you some we've come across so far. Holesaw=corebit, dropsaw = chop saw, Jaffle = toastie, dunna = duvet, dunnie = toilet, Sanger = sandwich. I'm probably spelling these wrong 🤣
😂😂😂 also Aussies love to shorten words eg... arvo= afternoon
Love it, the hungry chat really made me laugh ❤
🤣🤣 glad we gave you a giggle
AW Keely the look on your wee face when you were measuring the foam made me say to the screen 'Don't worry it'll be fine' as if you could hear me. Come on Philly double hugs for Keely.
Aww thanks so much Helen 🥰 speak to me through the screen anytime you want haha
An absolute pleasure as always 😂❤
Thankyou 😊
amazing work and boy that one single rain storm could have wrecked it for you guys if you weren't under cover. SHOUT OUT to kind people everywhere ❤
Yeah so grateful to be protected from the rain!
Best one yet.
Well done Steve for looking after you both , what a guy.
Still laughing at the acoustic face plant 😂
Hahaha thanks Richie 🥰 glad we gave you a laugh
So much fun watching you!
Thanks Chris 🥰
Cmon Keely you know we are rooting for you?👍
🥰🥰 thanks Billy
Hi guys 👋 what a great guy making space in his workshop, much better than my idea of a pagoda last week.
The bed looks amazing Keely, yes cutting it down was definitely worth it, don't fancy seeing Philly with a shaved head 😂 🐸xx
Yeah I don't fancy seeing a bald head either 🤣
Aw, Keely, I can see how tired you are...like all systems stuck in low. Been there, gurl, but I know you'll get through and your man Philly so loves you.
I'm always amazed at how you get triumphantly to the goal...very inspiring. Hope you rest sweetly and deeply tonight.
Thanks so much my love 🥰 defo trying to get some much needed rest, but defo difficult in between building and editting haha
Currently watching,at 15+ mins,my heart swelled to see that mechanic being so kind to you. So delighted, you wouldn't find that kindness that level too much. You two aren't idiots, you two are amazing. My god I wish I could make a pull out bed like you both did. Delighted ye re did the height, it did make a difference. Fantastic work. What great progress.
Yeah so grateful for the indoor space 🥰
@ChapterByChapterVlog 100%,it was a game changer for ye. It must have been the Irish accent got to him, they love the Irish.
The "taco between 2 wheel arches", funny! Hang in there Keely, you're doing a great job, if you have to redo things it's okay cause you want it to be right. Keely, are you a nurse as well, great dressing skills with Philly's thumb. Philly, I started looking into what orange juice in the US has in it and found, ethyl butyrate....what! So glad I use oranges and squeeze them myself. I so hope things get easier for you guys as the build continues, it is going to look awesome in the end, I can feel it. Take care you two.....🤗💌✌
Love that you went and researched orange juice 💪 epic that you squeeze your own juice 🍊
Doing a stella job on the van..what a bonus to have been able to get in out of the weather to finish it off. Brill ! 👍😊👍
Yeah sooooo good that Steve offered up that space, been incredible!!
Omg was worried about u cutting ur finger with the Stanley knife last week and now philly has cut his thumb!! Glad it wasn’t too serious..van is coming along nicely ur both sooo talented and a great team xx
Thanks so much Debbie 🥰 yeah we are a hazard sometimes haha
Would like to clarify something in the video. When you're making the bed, mark 1 version, had Keely eaten???😂😂
Defo would have cut off the 25mm, as not doing it would have bugged me every time I sat on the bench.
Hats off to SteveO, what a chap giving you that space, which has running water and a bathroom!
Hope the build is nearly finished and Keely's maths brain hasn't exploded 🤣
🤣🤣🤣 yeah bathroom is a luxury we won't have on the road haha
How great to be able to make that adjustment. Forgetting the wood glue on the first round was wonderful luck. Thumbs up!
Thanks so much Deborah 🥰
Why is van maths so hard? We had the same problem doing ours! We can both do really complex stuff in our day jobs but van maths blew our minds! Great job guys!
Honestly it's such a brain melt isn't it!!
Fair play to the garage man Stephen for giving ye a place to stay and work. Van is really coming together now 👍
Yeah so grateful to him 🙏
« Massive Thumbs up 👍 » to you guys. I know I’m repeating myself but I’m beyond impressed. Not only you work so well together but you are so resourceful and skilled. I’m amazed 😊
I was convinced the 25 mm difference was worth the effort for all the time you will spend in there, but was happy to see that you could instantly feel the difference.
And let’s not forget to mention the generosity of Steven ❤. I mean working inside must be a world of difference. I’m really happy for you guys. I’m convinced it made it a little easier than in a car park.
More than a little easier 🤣now I can eat all day haha
@@phillyandkeely Oh my god! I am laughing 😂 so hard right now. Perfect answer 👌🏼🤤
Keely - you are just amazing, fab, funny, articulate, entertaining. Xxx
Hahaha thanks Patricia
So glad Steve was such a kind man and gave you a dry space.Must be so nice not moving all your stuff in and out! These are the times youll look back on and wonder how on earth you did it!! 😍Cant wait until next week to see how you get on. That is one beautiful van your both creating and your an amazing couple to get through so many challenges together . I imagine at times its very over whelming!!! Lots of love and a huge hug ❤🧡💜
Thanks so much Shunyia 🥰🥰 yeah so happy to have this space and so grateful.
From your #1 fan in the USA--this is my #1 favorite vlog on UA-cam so for goodness sakes EAT EAT & EAT 'cause I have never seen anyone and do NOT want to see Keely "disintegrate" before my eyes ;) Love & good vibes to you both!
🤣🤣 defo needed to eat that day haha
Yes, having a tiny van, every cm counts..
I have redone my built twice, and might redo it again, when I get back from my trip.. 😂
It's looking fine. 😊
Thankyou 🥰
Both of you are a true testament to the spirit of adventure. How many individualls you continue to inspire. Cheers to both of you.
Wow thanks so much 🥰🥰
Always accept offers of help wether it’s wanted or not. Accepting offers of help means people can walk with a feel good factor. Thank Steve and don’t forget to leave a little thank you pressent. 😊
🥰🥰🥰 very true
Philly and Keely Yous got it.wow fantastic job on the van in proud of yous
Thanks so much 🥰🥰
Wow!! Ya'll are amazing!!!
"Cant rush perfection!" ....Indeed!!!
We had an amazing time in Ireland!! Wish i could share photos.
Thats probably not the only time you will benefit from the kindness of the folks there.
Love your videos.
Love you guys❣️❣️❣️👍😁👍
So glad to hear you had an amazing time 🥰🥰
Another week of praise from the Joiner from Scotland . That bed is brilliant , and yes allways pre drill and countersink .😀
Thanks so much 🥰💪🙏
Keely your laugh is so cute and seeing that bed redone was so satisfying when you both sat on it. Great job and GET SOME FOOD!
Thanks Patti 🥰🥰
You're welcome ❤❤
Hiya 👋🏼!! So glad to be able to spend a little time with you this morning!! The van is coming along nicely! You’re doing everything so professionally! I’m so impressed! I’m happy you decided to invest in a saw. That had to be ROUGH sawing everything by hand 😣!! And Steve! What a generous guy!! Total game changer to be able to work inside AND you have running water and a toilet? WOW! Your fridge is gorgeous! Another game changer! And the 25mil (1/4 inch?)… you’ll be so happy you did that because you’d be somewhere in the outback and it would be in your head wondering why you didn’t when you had the chance. I hope at this point you’ve finished the van build and are on your way? Safe travels from Southern California 🌴
Thanks so much Carina 🥰 yeah the fridge is incredible ❤️💪
Love the Q 350 in the background.
😍😍
Bloody brilliant content....editing was awesome
Thanks so much Tracey 🥰
Letting the mad woman loose with the carving knife was very brave.😂
🤣🤣🤣
Amazing job on the bed looks so functional and comfortable. I bet youre super glad you took the 25mm off
Yeah so much better 🥰
Great job Philly and Keely. Love your positiveness. ❤
Thanks Linda 🥰
Wow guys. What an amazing job. Well done. Cannot wait to see the kitchen go in and Keely finally make her cup of coffee in the new van xx
Oh my word it will be so good Jayne 🥰
What Keely wants, Keely gets 😄👍👍👍
🤣🤣
Doing well guys, glad you have a dry place to carry on working😁😁💚🌟
Thanks man, so grateful
Your skills and talents are amazing..and love your humour throughout the ups and downs..what a journey this will be.. thanks guys..👍👍🍀👏
Thanks so much, that's very kind of you to say
I definitely would have done what you did to make sure to maximize comfort, that's important!!!
Thanks Heather 🥰
Love you guys. Sooo funny. Great job on the bed. Take care . Michelle x
Thanks Michelle 🥰🥰
brilliant job, such a godsend getting an inside space to work in - cant wait to see the final product
Thankyou 🥰 we can't wait to get it finished haha
What a relief to get you guys undercover, well done Steve!
Yeah so good 😊
Good job, guys. I hope that van is not just on gas. Keely just keep laughing 😂👍
No it has a petrol tank, so we will be bringing a load of jerrycans into the outback with us 💪
The van is looking good. Much better than the one I went travelling oz in
I can't wait for the end results at least now you can keep working on when it rains ❤
Yeah such a game changer, cuz it's been raining alot in Melbourne recently
Yes, coffee ☕☕ , and bonus 25 mm extra storage space on top of the bed 👍. Definetly would have done it too. Better ergonomics. Nothing worse than back and/or neck pain, especially on a long trip.
Yes every mm counts when it comes to the spine eh!
Well done the both of you! Mad skills! Can’t wait til we travel the Outback! Thank for sharing your adventures!
Thanks Margaret 🥰🥰
Well done, you’re getting there. Thumbs up to Steve for giving you his workshop space too! How will you get the fridge out - surely it’s not staying in a piece of cardboard? Could you screw drawer runners to it and lift it a couple of mm? It’ll slide in and out much easier? If headroom still an issue, you could go for a thinner head lining?
That was the original plan with the drawer, but those mm for the spine are better used. Philly has created a strap system with some of our spare floor and the black straps it arrived with , so it looks pretty cool now sliding in and out
Well done guys your doing a great job and being very entertaining. How friendly are those Aussie’s. Being inside is making such a difference for you. Love the bandage well done nurse Keeley. Have a good week guys. 😊💕
Yeah making an incredible difference 🥰
Love Keelys thumbnail pics.
❤️❤️❤️
Cheers to Steve for upgrading you from Bunnings car park, convenient as it was for the shop 😅 this indoor area has really allowed you to move on.
I’m impressed by how you both tackle this diy and aim for perfection. 👏🏼👏🏼
Thanks so much Jackie ❤️❤️
"STARTING to get quite overwhelming..."?!? 😂
Your level of patience and determination far exceeds mine and the fact that you still laugh and love each other is truly a testament to your character you two. Honestly, after my two grown up kids, you two are my favourite humans on the planet! Fabbo construction skills, super fabbo editing skills, always a hoot watching your updates... ❤
Thanks so much Lisa! Glad you enjoyed the videos, it's coming along isn't it!
Thank you Steve! Thank you Keely! Thank you Philly! Such a good video, as always.
Thanks so much 🥰🥰🥰 so glad you enjoyed the video
You guys are doing an awesome job! Happy to see you have a full fridge so you won't go without eating again 😊. Looking forward to see your progress next week.❤❤
Thankyou 🥰🥰 yeah I can't be without food haha
AWESOME work on the bed, guys! I've seen other bus- and vanlife channels build similar bed/sofas, those sliding slats do look like a real brain breaker! And yep, great shout on maximizing your available sitting height. If you hadn't, you would be wishing you had every day for the next six months.
Huge props to Steve-o for opening up his warehouse for youse! Wow! And just to be an enabler, I say you don't have to count rainy Bunnings carpark days in your 30 day build deadline. 😁❤️❤️🤞😎xx
Thanks so much Aaron, I appreciate your enabling haha!
Amazing job guys!!! 🙌👏😍
Thankyou 🥰
You two are incredible! I have so much admiration for your determination.
Thanks so much Diana, that's so kind of you to say ❤️
Looking amazing you two. But I can’t believe it’s taken stevio this long to give you some where to build away from the elements….. well done on getting this far ….. it’s gonna be amazing ❤
We are soooo grateful to be given a space to work, he's been a legend
Well now, we all know what a difference an inch makes. 😂 it’s all coming along well. So fortuitous to find Steve and how generous he is to let you use the warehouse. Next up the kitchen and coffee.
🤣🤣 📏📏 yesss to the coffee
if you look up "Hangry" in a dictionary, there will be a photo of Keely! 🤣❤
Hundred percent 🤣🤣
You're both some worker's. Great job ❤
Thanks Hugh 🥰
You two work so well together. So great to watch Loving the van build
Thanks so much Alan 🥰
Great work guys, it didn’t look easy but you got there in the end and it’s looking fab! Well done Keely for making it through without food 😂 can’t wait to see your travels through the outback!
Thanks so much, defo been a challenge this build!
Door dash anyone? You guys are so cute! Love your vlogs.
I wonder if it's possible to get food delivered to bunnings carpark, that would have been revolutionary haha
You two are both amazing. I would have done what you did with the bed. It looks perfect now.
Thanks so much 🥰🥰 glad to hear we aren't alone on the bed front
From Michigan wife and I watch all your videos. Love your accent and things that are called different from what we call here. For example What you call "car park". We call "parking lot" . Anyway, as for the fridge have you considered using a "felt" material rather than cardboard to slide it on? I would be considered about grit between the floor and cardboard scratching up the floor.
That's a great idea about felt! We may have to upgrade to that soon
All I can say is brilliant guys. I hate editing of ANY kind but you guys smashed it! I’m gonna use this as a meditation in my future. LUNCH!🤞🏾🥰🥰 😂😂
Hahaha thanks Cas 🥰
You two are great , working really hard to put your home together with lots of humour thrown in ! Love all the sound effects etc on your vlogs and Keely I was wondering if you were hungry as you hadn’t mentioned it for a while 🤣🤣🤣can’t wait to see the finished van and what you get up to next . Philly hope your thumb is ok now ! ❤x
Thanks so much for noticing our video editting 🥰🥰 we put so much love into them so when people notice the little sounds etc it makes our hearts happy ❤️
Ahhhh this was so good! That 25mm made so much difference- its looking good guys!
Thanks Sally, really did!
What a brilliant job you are doing...great skills...keep eating Keely...big thanks to Steve for giving you indoor space to work in...can't wait to see the finished van...you are both legends...Best wishes and many thanks
Thanks so much Andy ❤️ so excited to get it DONE
Your energy is contagious!! 😆😆 And just how many avocados DO you get through in a week? 🥑🥑🥑🥑🥑 🤣
Five for $5 here it's a bargain haha
Morning from Alaska ❤
Morning April 🥰
Great Job! Sticking to your ideas, and attention to detail will defo make the van more comfortable when you hit the road. Keep up the great work. Good on Steve for offering a helping hand. Good things come to good people!
Thanks so much Gina 🥰🥰
You pair are doing an amazing job, I love your videos keep it going team. Much love 💕
Thanks so much 🥰🥰
Massive thumbs up to you two, I was so relieved to see Keely getting some food 😂looking forward to seeing the finished van on the road great video as always 😊
Thanks so much 🥰🥰🥰
Great video as usual guys ❤❤
Thanks Alice 🥰
It’s looking great guys! Can’t wait to see next weeks video
Thanks Abigail 🥰
It's so AWESOME!! WOW holy cow You guys are just amazing, thank you Steve for letting them have space in your shop, I truly appreciate and am extremely grateful for you, I LOVE Philly and Keeley so much and am extremely proud of them!! It's gorgeous already
Thanks so much Kathleen 🥰🥰 that's very kind of you to say ❤️🙏
I hate working Sundays 😢😢 roll on this evening 🎉🎉
See you this evening 💪 (our morning)
It'll be so satisfying to head out on adventures when this build is done, your tenacity is admirable both of you, if that cut gets infected philly find some plantain leaves chew them up and put on cut and wrap with bandage, it's an excellent antiseptic, much love to the both of you from me in Scotland x
That's a great tip about plantain leaves!! We will remember that for future.
Victorian weather. 4 seasons on one day so happy you were able to utilise that shed
Another great van build video
Thanks for sharing
Thanks Alan, so happy to have indoors space 💪
You guys both are doing such a good job. It looks so nice the way its coming together.
@@user-gz2xi4hg5z thankyou ❤️❤️❤️
You so did the right thing cutting that tiny amount off!
Love watching you guys and cant wait to see a bit of Australia x
Thanks so much Shirley ❤️
I have the exact same fridge! it's excellent and hardly uses any power at all. Can't wait til you make it down to Tassie 🙂
So glad to hear you have the fridge too! It just looks so good haha (and obviously keeps things cold lol)
Removing and reinstalling- that's par for the course. We have built a couple and had some factory made in between but even with our last build two years ago, I can't remember how many things were installed removed and re-installed, when it's your home, however temporary, you want it to be right, even the first few trips we did we came back and altered things. You are doing great and we enjoy seeing how you get along with it, amazed at how you can juggle van life, work and the build, we love you two
Thanks so much Paul, it's definitely a juggle! So true about wanting it to be just right
great episode this week yous two that fridge is amazing and ten minutes' to put the cabinet together is great Philly haha and you had no extra bits left over i always have extra bits leftover (never built right) lol
Philly is a perfectionist if you haven't noticed, no left over pieces allowed lol
Another very enjoyable & funny episode , Van coming together nicely 👏👏👏
Thanks so much Raymond ❤️
Good going guys 👏👏👍 need to send you another coffee to keep you going lol
Thanks Jeanette 🥰🥰 appreciate that
You should both be so proud of yourselves. You have put your everything into it . ❤
Thanks so much Hugh, we really have 💪
Very entertaining! What a laugh regarding the measuring. I'm a quilter....oh I do understand! No matter how experienced I get, there is always a crooked seam due to a missing 1/8th of an inch somewhere. I'm still learning but I think the key is to not care. People never notice the wonky seams like I do. & Taping that fabric onto the mattress is perfect, Do what works. You two are doing a great job!
Thanks so much Ruthie ❤️ I feel like noone else ever notices the mistake the way the maker does
Well done 👍 it looks amazing & I thought you both were nuts but it’s coming together great 👏
Haha we defo are nuts
Keely has a face that cracks me up lol
Next time your in OZ you should definitely do the south west of WA
Yeah we would love to do WA ❤️
You guys have done an amazing job. Not easy to build in car parks. But you both did it. You must be so thankful to Steve. Just love your videos.
Yeah so grateful 🥰🥰
As a guy who has built a few vans and campers , i defiantly feel your pain ...👍
Thanks Bob 💪💪
