  • Brunswick, GA...wow! This is one of the poorest and most dangerous cities in the state of Georgia. High in crime, homelessness, and having an over 32% poverty level, its one of the worst cities to live in within the United States. I saw a whole lot of abandoned / dilapidated homes, and very few people around. The economy is struggling as its one of the slowest recovering cities in Georgia after recent years, and there's no improvement in sight. Brunswick is also known as "The Shrimp Capital of The World". The Port of Brunswick is one of the largest US roll on / roll off points of trade, with automobiles being one of the biggest sources. You wouldn't think that by what I seen though. There's a lot of history and potential here, can it make a come back? Let's take a drive and check out some of the worst areas!

If you’re not from here you would not understand . Brunswick is located in Glynn county Georgia. There are a couple other places in this county. Such as saint simons island , or sea island . So if you drive around Brunswick and see bad roads , bad houses. It’s because all the money from taxes and such . Goes to the rich folks on the islands . I grew up here . And no wear will you see the line of rich and poor so clearly.

I didn’t realize that there were a lot of abandon houses in the city until after watching this video..I saw the hood and the childhood home that I grew up in and just shook my head..You were in the hoods..But not all areas look like that ..I always pray that one day God will bless me to be a blessing to the neighborhood that I grew up in and to the homeless people as well..I’m 42 years old can can say that Brunswick has grown..But still has limited resources to help out the homeless.

We stopped in Brunswick for a little while on the way home from a girls trip about 10 years ago. We walked around in the cute little downtown area and even then, everything was just kind of dead. There was a book store, a cupcake shop and another bakery, a few other little stores down there. The small business owners had kind of banded together in a desperate attempt to drum up business by encouraging any customers they did get, to check out the other stores on the street. It's sad to see that the general area has continued to deteriorate.

I saw far more trash barrels on the street than people. Maybe 8 people I saw.

How do you know? He had his back to the camera. Don't teachers get good medical benefits and decent pensions upon retirement?

So what is the history here? Result of hurricanes and not able to afford insurance? It looks like a few are making an effort to make some habitable.

Not even one single pleasant sight to see in this town,no wonder everyone is indoors, probably watching tv to escape. Maybe that's the reason hardly any lawns are mowed or anything tidied up and it just keeps getting uglier and uglier.

I saw some nice Victorians in Brunswick, when I was there. I wanted to put them on a barge and float them to Fernandina to fill empty lots in their historic district.

It is so sad to see the amount of wasted homes I see on your videos. I get the paper mill smell. If the wind blows just right we get a whiff of a paper mill from another county, but if you go through said county, you may need to hold your breath.
