Ka-Boooom. Bob 1 with attitude. Alan Meyers... simply amazing. Mark is an absolute genius. The Casales... Yeah, Oh Yeah. Devo was at their peak during this era.
@it's rick.hentai on Instagram Explosions was performed after the set change though, hence the boy scout outfits, so it didn't have projection anyway. They did apparently play one other date that may have included explosions, but no confirmation exists for that.
Saw them last year at the Hollywood Race Track, it was a once in a lifetime chance, it only cost 8 bucks. It's the best show I've ever been to, devo rocks and sounds just as good as they did back in the day.
Right. So Alan Myers proved he was the fastest and tightest drummist of his era and possibly after with this song. Why on earth did Jerry and Mark try to replace him with a drum machine or reduce him to a drum machine operator? Devo paid dearly for this and knocked them out of commission for nearly 30 years. Sloppy. They missed a hole.
Not to argue the EVER - but I am sure I saw Devo perform this on an awards show at the time (82-83) - with Mark miming shooting a shotgun into the air in the pause between 'we like' and 'explosions'. In fact I say this with such assurance because that performance was what blew my mind as a kid and got me into Devo (having never heard of them before then) and I've always loved this song a bit extra because of that. I came here tonight looking for that performance and couldn't find it - but was happy to come across this. Thank you.
Omfg, Explosions are the last song i would suspect to kick THIS much ass live - it really comes to life! If this is really the only time it was ever performed, its really a shame
@MrMiister this song is from "oh no, it's devo"......a great cd. also check out the cd"freedom of choice".....they really are 2 great cd's, almost every song on each is good!!! you will enjoy them.
@javelinman7 Yes! Go to THE source for rare Devo material, Booji Boy's Basement... I don't believe links are enabled here, but Google and ye shall find. And listen to the 30 second audio sample of Explosions -- you'll notice that Mark's voice is mixed far better!
@WoodRatGirl O rly? I just so happen to have a camera and a vinyl copy of 'Oh No'. I'll try.... I actually recorded the entire New Traditionalists album out of boredom...lol
Okay. Could be. I know he goes nowhere near as high as he used to when he does "Stuck in My Throat" or the current Booji Boy version of "Beautiful World."
While I love DEVO, I must concur that this song is rather shit. Amazing drum work by alan though. Is that him on the studio version or is it a drum machine?
Alan Myers was a god among drummers. All hail the Human Metronome!
Remember Rosedale Park ... So sick!
Alan was born for this. We miss you Alan, the real DEVO beat.
Fantastic to see Alan enjoying himself. Dumb move to try and replace him with a machine. Gone but not forgotten Alan.
Ka-Boooom.
Bob 1 with attitude.
Alan Meyers... simply amazing.
Mark is an absolute genius.
The Casales... Yeah, Oh Yeah.
Devo was at their peak during this era.
I guess drugs do make somethings better
I'll never understand why they never performed this song live again, considering how great they did it here.
The Doctor can always let you see this again.
applefieldsforever Meh.

as far as im concerned this is one of the best devo tracks
My theory is that the backing track got damaged, and they had to cut it from the tape. (You can see the Reel-to-Reel player at 0:57)
Alan was a monster, as is Bob 1. So underrated.
Bob is so under-rated.He's an amazing guitar player.
Ever hear Man From the Past? He shreds.
The spud was an awesome drummer we miss you Allan !
This is so badass I was thinking abt it and had to come back and experience again
RIP Mr. Drum Machine, the greatest drummer in popular music :(
YES!!! OH YEAH!!!!
first time hearing this song live and wow, Alan and Bob 1 kick so much ass in this. I honestly think I like this more than the studio version.
I can't believe they didn't keep this in there set list. It's a good warm up song, if not absolutely awesome.
I really love this band my mom raised me on them and they are just so underrated in pop culture, but definitely a hidden gem. RIP Alan.
You have a good mom
Saw them last year at the Hollywood Race Track, it was a once in a lifetime chance, it only cost 8 bucks. It's the best show I've ever been to, devo rocks and sounds just as good as they did back in the day.
Goddamn, every video I see just cements the fucking badass-ery, DEVO is definitely one of the most underrated bands EVER!
Wow, this blows away the (already great) studio version.
RIP Alan Myers, best drummer of the 80s
My most favourite song by one of my favourite bands :D
I love this song! I still bump this in my ride. :D
@rmaxinmass That is most definitely Alan on drums. Alan didn't leave the band until after "Shout" (which he didn't appear on anyway).
drummer is awesome ..... great song ..... the energy .... amazing!

Great to see Alan Meyers - The Human Metronome hard out doin his thang!
Go Alan!

Al Myers is like the 16 beat king !!
i had no idea devo were this good..
love it!
Excellent!!
Someone knew this song came out in 1982.
Fantastic performance!
Such a funky number, gotta love Devo!
There will never ever... be another Devo.
I've had this song stuck in my head today lol.
Boom! Oh yea!
wow bob is KILLING on the guitar. I had no idea there was a guitar line!
I LOVE THIS!!!!! Sheer badassery!
This is a rare gem. They should play this song in the new tour!
This, Gates of Steel and Worried Man are awesome live Devo songs
Can't help but think of this song every 4th of July, when people ooh and ah over the 'splosions.
Shame if so. Difficult to believe a song this good wouldn't make setlists more often than not. Cheers for posting it on its own.
Time for the Spudboys to do this song live again, with Josh Freese layin down the 16-beat!
Omfg, Explosions are the last song i would suspect to kick THIS much ass live - it really comes to life! If this is really the only time it was ever performed, its really a shame
imho best drummer the boys EVER had, he will be sadly
Agreed.
WOW!! - OH WOWW!!!
🤌🏒🚨🏒🤌
@MrMiister this song is from "oh no, it's devo"......a great cd. also check out the cd"freedom of choice".....they really are 2 great cd's, almost every song on each is good!!! you will enjoy them.
there's nothing like some in and out
best devo song ever created
I saw them perform this about 6 weeks later. They did it ever stop on that tour.
Thanx for upload!
Incredible!
Alan kick ass!
RIP Alan Myers. :-(
Ohhhhhhhhhhh, yes he can! He does it on "Fresh."
Thank's for posting.A chilling track.
We like explosions that leave you feeling good >:-)
saw them in Atlanta 2010 on Jerry's birthday. they woulda wowed with this song!
Tight.
Bob 1 kicks ass here more licks on the record. Who says devo ain't funky?
One of a kind.
I wish someone would upload a HQ vid of the vinyl version of this.
Devo all working hard on this song.
Maybe the reason why they haven't performed it since is that Alan is the only drummer who can play it properly.
This is utterly spectacular. Devo fucking rule
@the one person who disliked it : i know where You live...
Peak DEVO
Totally agree.
@ProfessorIgor I believe that's Dave Kendrik on drums. Alan had left by the time Oh No It's DEVO was finished.
Duty now for the future, spuds. Be like your ancestors, or be different. It don't matter.
Mas era muito bom!
Looks like Alan is using a Mastersound/Sound Edge bottom as a top here?
This is such a bad ass, sexy fuckin jam dude..
Bob 1 fucking rips that shit maynnn
this is so fucking badass
This is Punk Rock
the vestigial 3d video color blur adds to the video- it wouldn't be the same if it was normal bad video
LOUD SHOTS FROM THE BIG SPUD GUUUNN!!!!!
correction .... bob 2 is "the oh yeah" guy
Agreed.
FUCK YEAH !
@rmaxinmass no way man, that's ALAN... come on, look at the nose !!! Alan has a big schnoz !!!
@javelinman7 Yes! Go to THE source for rare Devo material, Booji Boy's Basement... I don't believe links are enabled here, but Google and ye shall find.

More cow bell !
can I get this whole show on tape somewhere?
@WoodRatGirl O rly? I just so happen to have a camera and a vinyl copy of 'Oh No'. I'll try.... I actually recorded the entire New Traditionalists album out of boredom...lol
@rmaxinmass Alan left in '86 - this was obviously '82
I know. That's what I said. "The Casales... Yeah, Oh Yeah." Bob Casale is Bob 2. You're not dealing with a DEVO novice here.
Nihilism is awesome. :D
probably correct on that 1
Okay. Could be. I know he goes nowhere near as high as he used to when he does "Stuck in My Throat" or the current Booji Boy version of "Beautiful World."
Where was this show performed?
Fridays?
@JohnnyLovely2
Would you really do that? No pressure or anything if you don't want too LOL.
Alan screaming
The should be on Rock Band or Guitar Hero
While I love DEVO, I must concur that this song is rather shit. Amazing drum work by alan though. Is that him on the studio version or is it a drum machine?
