  • Here you will see what is involved to replace the spark plugs on my 2000 Mercedes-Benz S430 which is a W220 Chassis. This procedure should work on most variations of the M113 (V8) and M112 (V6) engines.
    The spark plugs and special tool can be found at a great price at autohausaz.com. They offer just the spark plugs or the spark plugs and wires and special tool in a “kit”. So check it out! I have been using them for years. (I am in no way affiliated or sponsored by this website)
    Use of the material shown in this video is to be used at you own risk as I am not responsible for any damage done to your vehicle from use of this information. This procedure should only be done by trained and experienced automotive technicians.

    Pro tip! Place the little dab of anti seize closer to the washer where it makes better contact with the engine cylinder head.

      I put it closer to the front just to be sure to coat all the threads. Mercedes-Benz procedure doesn’t say to use anti-seize, but I do it anyways.

    Thanks for all the advice. I have an sl500 and I used the offset wrench to remove the plug wires. I did it one step at a time. The SL 5.0 litre engine has a a lot of space around the whole engine which made it very easy to access everything. My first time, it took me 1 1/2 hour to complete.

    Wow! This doesn't seem compicated at all! I was wondering if the wires would get crossed but with the explanation and follow the sequence of front n back and A n B, geez so much simpler! And the dealer wants $600 plus parts, thanks you saved my wallet !

      Just changed them today. Apart from a couple of trips to AutoZone because my foggy azz didn't make a good tool list, it was really pretty straightforward! Mine is an R129 M113 and thanks to the maintenance mode hood release, I had plenty of room to work. Saved myself 500 bucks in labor easy. And learnt a new skill to boot! Win-win!

    Anti seize is not needed and is not recommended. Modern plugs come with a Trivalent plating that sloughs off on removal. It also greatly changes the torque value into an over-torque situation that can cause the plug to fail, and may pull the threads out of the head. That's from the NGK website. I would imagine that Bosch says the same. If you're watching this video, you probably change your plugs before you'd run into them being stuck in the head anyway, so why take the chance of screwing the threads up..?

      Just off the top of my head from buying used ones for years, my first thing to change at that many miles was plugs,wires, and coils, check valve cover gasket, full coolant change idc what anyone says lol, I use a little bottle of Lucas on a fresh tank of premium , check the airmatic pump and struts, oil change and filter are all I can think of and there is some controversial info about the transmission

      I usually use a 3” extension on a 1” extension for the ones in the back. Usually have to assemble and disassemble the socket and extension in the spark plug hole. Even use a telescopic magnet or pocket screw drivers magnet to get the old and new spark plug in and out

    SIXTEEN??????? I just got a 2000 S430 with no miles on it. You can bet it won't be mine for long! F that nonsense. The late 1980's was the last of the best MBs.

    • @MercedesTech
      @MercedesTech  2 роки тому +9

      It’s what’s called a waste spark system. Each cylinder has 2 spark plugs. Unfortunately, the M113 found in these cars is what I would call the most reliable of any engine produced within the last 20 years. It’s also sometimes called the Chevy 350 of Mercedes engines because it came in so many different variations (Supercharged, NA, AMG, different displacements even)

    • @petercollingwood522
      @petercollingwood522 11 місяців тому +1

      Considering how easy it is to change these, and how much better the M113's and 112's perform overall than the engines of the late 80's (which were great to be sure) I don't see the objection.
