This game, this system, actually blew me away. Wonderful game, great presentation, overall a 10++. I don't understand why there is an option for no damage on the damage dice (3 or 4), but I haven't been able to play it yet so I can't say that it's a bad thing. Best version of John Carter that could be made. Thank you, Modiphius and especially Virginia!

Great stuff! I am a huge fan of the Conan rpg and a bit of an armchair historian when it comes to all things pulpy. Just ordered the core book 2 days ago. Looking forward to bringing it to the table and recording my thoughts on the system on the QuestWise UA-cam channel soon!

Thank you so much for this run-through. I'm about the create my own original Serial. I used to role-play for many years in my teens and twenties and have moved off mostly to writing audio drama today, but as I write some great pulp audio, I wanted to return to Barsoom and try my hand at Narrating (DMing) again. Your session really helped me clarify some of the battle mechanics. I've got both Conan recently when you had that deal (want to get Star Trek when there's a deal as well), and I was an original backer of John Carter as all of this pulp goodness is everything I adore.
My episode is a little more "railroading" as the initial premise of the Serial needs by in from the Players, but as they will be all new to the world of Barsoom, and the Modiphius system, and I want this to be cinematic in it's scope and story, I think it will be warranted. Should we all agree to move forward, this first adventure will operate as a "gluing" opportunity for the characters to work as their own pack for more open-world adventures. I look forward to checking more, out and will happily send my Serial to you folks for fun if you're interested when I get it done. Cheers!

I hope you will make more JCoM videos. These examples of how to do combat and calculate damage are much better than the book.

Great video. I love the game, this gave me insight into running it. I hope we get a "Paramedics of Barsoom" splat with stats for motorcycles.

That was a great first session and look forward to seeing more. I think with games like John Carter that don't necessarily fit into the usual genres we're used to in 2019, actual play is really useful as an example of how it's done; I find the idea of playing a character in Barsoom more daunting than Hyborea or other fantasy worlds, so this was great to see - you all made it look easy! The audio was fine overall, there was a noticeable echo when I began listening and it did seem slightly distracting, but by the end it didn't seem like anything significant at all.

Don’t record in a room that has all hard surfaces. It makes the audio boomy and muddy. And run your file through a compressor so the loudness is consistent. This is painful to listen to - so I’m not going to.

Is possible to play this solo?

John Carter of Mars is designed to play with a small group of people. You'd need at least one GM and one player.

Potentially, any RPG can be played solo i.e. one player running a few characters and no GM. You will need some form of an Oracle to answer yes/no type questions etc. Start with the Mythic GME (game master emulator) but there are many oracles out there.

Here's my list of solo engines (Oracles):
      CRGE
      UNE Universal NPC Emulator
BOLD Book of Legends & Deeds
      ISC Inferential Scene Crafter
      9Qs
      Mythic GME
      Minimal d6
      Cthulhu Dark
      Bivius Tunnels & Dungeons
      Libre
      Miso
      Blade & Lockpick

Hi there. The GM is normally not playing a character, but they will get to play everyone else in the story!
