Helpful video tutorial. However, one thing..... Disconnecting the battery is not "Paranoid". It is responsible best practice!!!! I am a trained electronic technician with 30+ years of performibg computer servicing and delivering technical training.
It's my pleasure my friend. 😊 I appreciate your feedback. With over 34 years of experience in repairing and servicing electronics, I can understand where you're coming from. However, I must respectfully disagree. For experienced technicians, upgrading or servicing without disconnecting the battery is both efficient and safe when proper precautions are taken. Disconnecting the battery is not a strict requirement. It can be an unnecessary step unless there's a risk of dropping a tool onto the board, which is more of a concern for less experienced individuals. Additionally, these laptops do not have a dedicated CMOS battery. The CMOS charge comes from the main battery, and disconnecting it resets any BIOS settings to default. This has caused confusion for many viewers in the past, leading to numerous comments about the CMOS reset message. I appreciate the feedback and thank you for your understanding and for sharing your perspective. cheers🍻
@@uFixTek I have no issue with your explanation. And I can appreciate a CMOS reset causing potential confusion. However, we are not really in disagreement. My only concern was that the video suggested leaving the battery connected (for convenience), WITHOUT stating that there also can be potential negative implications of doing so. Some circuits still remain "live" as a result. And a screw (or other conductive object) falling and taking a wrong bounce can end up short-circuiting the board (Murphy can be very sudden and cruel when you least want him around). So, having described the context, I think we can both be in agreement with the following principle: 1. Leaving the battery connected is not a 100% safe practice. Cautions should still be observed (regardless of one's experience) when doing so. You expounded upon the important details in your response. I was only critiquing that they should have been originally included in the video as well. Cheers. And keep up the good work! You are providing a valuable learning resource for many persons.
Thank you for the comment 🫠👍 Nothing is 100% safe practice 😉 (it's right in the name: Practice). Don't get me wrong, removing the battery and working on the laptop is a very high % safe practice. Your feedback and opinion on this matter are very appreciated by me and viewers my friend. Just a note for the viewers: IF you want to disconnect the battery then, Please connect the battery jack straight into the connector. I have received a lot of emails from people who have sparked the connector and shorted the motherboard during this process. Just make sure you disconnect straight upwards and connect straight into the jack. cheers🍻
