For me, a dive coaster is the perfect opportunity to show off how good you are at theming. Even though oblivion isn’t themed amazingly, the thrill comes from vanishing into nothing and Baron really blends in well to its environment and has a great pre-show whereas dive coasters like valravn and Yukon are just all about height and stats. That’s not necessarily a bad thing but just a missed opportunity.
I've only ridden Oblivion so far, but I'll be riding Krake in October. I love dive coasters and I think mini dives could be the future of the model, as they are cheaper and can perform more exciting manoeuvres compared to their large counterparts (Griffon).
I agree completely. The smaller models look so much more exciting and intriguing. Especially Baron, Krake and Oblivion: TBH which look so unique and much more interesting that Griffon and Shiekra which look generic and boring with an Immelman going straight into a MCBR.
Charlie Newbold The one thing I've heard (and experienced to a degree) with the larger models is that they are more forceful than mini dives, and that'd make sense because the trains are heavier. But, I agree, the large ones don't always have particularly great layouts, with maybe the exception of Valravn.
Six Flags Needs Dive Coasters! What The Dive Coasters could be at each park: Magic Mountain: Aquaman’s Deep Splash (replace Deja Vu) Great Adventure: Thunderbolt (replace Rolling Thunder) Great America: Supergirl (replace Deja Vu) Over Texas: Great Texas Dive Machine (replace Flashback) Over Georgia: Georgia Dipper (could interact with Great American Scream Machine) New England: Death Dive (Expansion) La Ronde: La Plongée (Replace Le Cobra) Mexico: El Buceo (Expansion)
The Ride Analyst Channel Instead of air launch, let's have it do LIM, LSM, hydraulic, and air powered launch. Also, it should have a drive tire lift, a chain lift, and a cable lift.
The reason that the trains only have 3 rows is because the if there are 6 or 8, part of the train would be flat while hanging. You didn't mention this. And B&M made the trains wider for more capacity hence the wider track.
Not only that, but a longer train would make the acceleration of the sudden drop a lot slower, since the front of the train would be pulling the back off a flat surface.
The Griffon was my 5th coaster to ever ride, and was probably the ride that really got me into the world of coasters. Overall I think the idea behind dive coaster is good. I see it as that first vertical drop is a way to distract the riders from a rather basic ride. Kind of smart if you think about it. Really all you need is that vertical drop at the beginning and keep the rest of the ride simple, which could also save on the cost of manufacturing.
This video was before Yukon Striker at Canada’s Wonderland which the ride opened in 2019, and it’s one of my favourite roller coasters ever. It’s really fun
when i first went to busch gardens tampa when i was 11, i rode every coaster in the park except sheikra because the 90 degree drop terrified me. now at 19 i think im ready for valravn at cedar point when i go next weekend!
To me. Hang Time at knotts Berry farm in California is the best dive coaster I’ve ever been on. It’s made by a new company I forgot the name. But with a vertical lift hill. And the restraints are lap bar restraints. So when the dive element comes in you feel like you’re falling out. The coaster also has a 92 degree or so drop. It’s an infinity coaster.
0:13 it only has to be close to 90° and the concept is to be held at the top and being released into a drop. If it's by your definition, oblivion is not a dive
The technology to create smooth 90 degree drops wasn't available when Oblivion was built. Though, Oblivion is 'close enough' to 90 degrees that the definition stands.
According to Busch Gardens Williamsburg, on dive coasters you never actually stop. Apparently you are just slowly pulled over the crest and when you run out of chain you drop.
I think a launch coaster gives a pretty similar effect of very sudden and extreme acceleration but I prefer launch coasters because their effect is more powerful.
Dive Machines aren't the best but are generally very good roller coaster additions, even if they are one trick ponies. I haven't ridden one yet but I hope to do so in the the future. The nearest to me being Valravn at Cedar Point. They are great for their high thrills and compact layouts. Even the Dive Machines with vary simple layouts are very popular with the general public. So yes! I would love to see more Dive Machines!
This is true. Dive machines that are well themed can offer great experiences! I have heard that Valravn isn't the best example of a dive coaster, but give it a ride nonetheless! :)
The holding brake is a reserve chain section. Meaning the car connects to the chain, similar to a lift hill, and is slowly lowered to the edge. Upon release the chain moves towards the drop, allowing for the train to disengage.
I totally like the Barron 1898, because its a small layout, but a powerfull one. The only thing is that i think they could have done more with it if they had more space, just because the train still goes pretty fast just before the brakes.
4 dive coasters have opened since this video was made and 1 is expected to open soon Western Regions Heaven at Happy Valley Draken at Gyeongju World Valkyria at Liseberg And Yukon Striker at Canada’s Wonderland Emperor is expected to open some time in 2020
It often makes the layout more compact or is done to allow the ride to fit in the footprint the park has available. As a lift hill takes up a lot of space a turn is often required to ensure it doesn't keep travelling in a forwards direction and can begin the layout closer to the station :)
B&M didn't build the tower of terror in gold reef city. It had the holding brake and a longer vertical section than oblivion till it was re-engineered.
They don't use breaks at the drop they never actually stop they are just on a slower chain that caught them keeps moving then just speeds up as you drop. Its so it feels like it stops but it does not.
Oblivion is the most simple (I would expect that though as it was the first dive coaster) but to me, I think it has the best theming overall. I like the sci-fi vibe to it and the music suits it very well. I say that about most Alton towers coasters though, Alton towers is the best for theming.
Oblivion is definitely a special dive coaster, due to the fact it's the first and has the best looking drop (in my opinion). However, I wouldn't say it's the best themed, Baron 1898 definitely takes that title. Most of Alton Towers rides are unique and themed to some degree. I would say that the park could up their game with theming, which I hope we see them do for SW8 :)
Great video! I cannot wait to ride Valravn at Cedar Point, it'll be my first dive coaster! And I am so EXCITED for the Millennium Force video! That's my favorite roller coaster! :-)
Honestly not a fan of B&M's vest restraint's, I love the ride untill the ending brake run, cause then I want to get off ASAP because without movement [I guess?] the restraint [cause I'm super skinny .-.] basically presses up against my body so it's difficult to breathe. This happened especially on Gatekeeper and Valravn, but I recently rode X-Flight and that wasn't as bad, as I tried to resist it before the beginning of the ride.
wonderland got one recently so far I haven't mustered up the courage to go on it though its just the hanging for 3 seconds thing that bothers me I prefer to just go rip it off like a bandage instead of stressing right out about dangling.

It is extremely unlikely that Oblivion will be upgraded. It is more likely that the ride would be taken down and replaced with an alternative roller coaster.
Oh thank you for telling me I going to Alton towers soon so thank you for the info Do you have any tips for not being scared of roller coasters beachside I have a small fear of them
i would like to see a dive coaster that doesn't slam into a brake run after 2 elements (dive... Immelmann... brakes) they have momentum, so they should do something with it.
Ride Baron 1898 or Krake then. Krake goes into an airtime hill after the Immelmann loop and then into the ECBR, and Baron (I believe) goes into a zero-G-roll then an inclined loop or helix, one of those two.
Those are rumours for now. They say it will be like Lost Gravity, but than with the hangtime at the top. I rode Lost Gravity 3 weeks ago, and it is amazing! They shouldn't Make a dive variant of it
The drop of a dive coaster feels somewhat different to that of a drop tower. This is because you move forward at the beginning and end of the drop. The vertical drop movement only lasts for a short amount of time.
The world needs....Dueling Dive Coasters!
Way too expensive
+Bizarro Faye Only Dubai can afford for one 😂
Well, we now have Dueling Tilt Coasters...
+Evolution Epoch Yea and what about Dragon Challenge?
+Floempie ! That's an inverted coaster. Not a tilt or a dive coaster.
I definitely agree, it is a missed opportunity.
I love seeing the Baron and other Efteling coasters featured in these.
They're great coasters! :)
I got to be honest, B&M really likes splash downs
Indeed they do! :)
Dive Coasters:
The only coaster that when it gets to the top, the GP think it’s broken
This is true much more so with tilt coasters.
yay you showed Baron 1898 from the efteling! my fav :D
Awesome to hear! :)
I've only ridden Oblivion so far, but I'll be riding Krake in October. I love dive coasters and I think mini dives could be the future of the model, as they are cheaper and can perform more exciting manoeuvres compared to their large counterparts (Griffon).

Sam Williamson ive ridden onlusten baron1898 so far
Griffin is my favorite dive coaster (Williamsburg VA)
Theres some divecoaster.
A mini model but hes amazing.
And that is Baron 1898 in the Efteling.
I think its the best themed dive coaster in the world.
"After the lift hill, the train enter a flat section of track rather than the drop. "
Baron 1898: allow me to introduce myself.
Well even Baron has a small bit of flat track before the drop section ;)
It just doesn’t have the turn, but still a flat section.
I love Griffin at Busch Gardens so much, and I can’t wait for pantheon
Pantheon looks awesome!
Six Flags Needs Dive Coasters!
What The Dive Coasters could be at each park:

How bout stand up dive coaster that would be sick
It might be rather uncomfortable!
Cialan Tully stand up coasters make you sick.
How about a stand up invert woodie hydraulic launch 4D wing rider dive coaster manufactured by Zamperla
TheSkyrimGeek wooden b&m terra air power launch wing polercoaster topper track
The Ride Analyst Channel Instead of air launch, let's have it do LIM, LSM, hydraulic, and air powered launch. Also, it should have a drive tire lift, a chain lift, and a cable lift.
The reason that the trains only have 3 rows is because the if there are 6 or 8, part of the train would be flat while hanging. You didn't mention this. And B&M made the trains wider for more capacity hence the wider track.
This is true. It wasn't mentioned in the video itself as it is somewhat obvious. :)
Not only that, but a longer train would make the acceleration of the sudden drop a lot slower, since the front of the train would be pulling the back off a flat surface.
But why do normal roller coasters not do this?
The Griffon was my 5th coaster to ever ride, and was probably the ride that really got me into the world of coasters. Overall I think the idea behind dive coaster is good. Really all you need is that vertical drop at the beginning and keep the rest of the ride simple, which could also save on the cost of manufacturing.
But overall it is a really thrilling experience! Definitely worth a wait!
Definitely my favourite type of steel roller coaster, Griffon probably being my most favourite of all time.
That's awesome to hear! :)
and its my home park
Then you haven’t ridden Baron 1898 yet that will change your mind
Griffon has its clone in Korea~~~
Dont talk so faaaaast!!!😂😂😂
Sorry about that. In future videos I don't talk as quickly. You should check those out! :)
COASTER BOT 👌🏼👌🏼👌🏼
I've only been on oblivion but it's absolutely amazing
This video was before Yukon Striker at Canada’s Wonderland which the ride opened in 2019, and it’s one of my favourite roller coasters ever. It’s really fun
It looks great! :)

I would love to see more dive coasters around! I hope one comes to Carowinds!
I would also like to see more Dive Coasters around the world.
oblivion looks pretty small. 55 Meters. 55. it looks like 17 meters.
Most of Oblivion, 35m of it, occurs below the ground. The ride only measures 20m high, but has a 55m drop. :)
JGFallways16K it is because AT have a height limit I believe so most of by he drop needs to be underground.
What about Valravn? Was this made before the announcement that it was coming?
Footage of Valravn was featured in the video. However the video was edited and created prior to Valravn's opening day.
Baron 1898 is such an amazing overall experience. Definitely one of my favourite Efteling attractions.
Could you do Flying Coasters: Explained? I believe I know how they tilt...
I will add it to the list, thanks for the suggestion! :)
COASTER BOT can you do family coasters
Could you try to post individual ideas separately rather than put them on other comments?
Flip Tube What type of family coasters do you mean, just briefly cover all of them, or the most common ones, in a single video? :)
1:57 is at Busch gardens and I've been on it! It was terrifying, and fun at the same time!
Silver Dollar City is rumored to get one of these in 2017
One can hope!
I think CW should get a mini dive :)
Your wish has been granted tenfold!
Yukon Striker has entered the chat*
Are you all hyped for valkyra at liseberg?
Definitely! :)
COASTER BOT Its great
Rode valravn bout a week ago. Its so much fun but its too short, too bad they aren’t longer. 😆
That's fair enough really. I'm glad you enjoyed it! :)
not as good as griffon cough cough vest restraints cough cough
There is one dive coaster opening in Liseberg, Sweden next year.
Indeed there is! :)
HYPED FOR THE NEXT WHAT IS!
Who isn't! :)
I'm going on one of these coasters soon any tips for bracing the first drop super nervous about it
According to Busch Gardens Williamsburg, on dive coasters you never actually stop. Apparently you are just slowly pulled over the crest and when you run out of chain you drop.
This is true, however the movement of the train is unnoticeable. :)
MORE dive coasters please!
So excited for Canada's Wonderland (my home park) to get one next year!
Awesome! :)
I think a launch coaster gives a pretty similar effect of very sudden and extreme acceleration but I prefer launch coasters because their effect is more powerful.
Nice video! I still haven’t ridden a dive coaster yet but i hope SF Great America and Magic Mountain get one someday
Maybe they will, who knows!
There is one opening in SF Fiesta Texas
>Dive coasters have vertical 90 degree drops and are only madr by B&M
Hangtime: Allow me to introduce myself

gerslaur has a dive coaster at knotts berry farm
I feel like Trimless Voyage deserves its own Explained video
Millennium force is next! YES!
Great to see the enthusiasm! :)
How does the holding brake work?
The holding brake is a reserve chain section. Meaning the car connects to the chain, similar to a lift hill, and is slowly lowered to the edge. Upon release the chain moves towards the drop, allowing for the train to disengage.
I think Darien Lake should get a dive coaster!
zyber9
I would love that. It's my favorite theme park.
yay those are my dutch subtitles :D
Thanks for doing those! :)
I totally like the Barron 1898, because its a small layout, but a powerfull one. The only thing is that i think they could have done more with it if they had more space, just because the train still goes pretty fast just before the brakes.
I agree, Baron does it's job very well! :)
Yes please ad more dive coasters.
4 dive coasters have opened since this video was made and 1 is expected to open soon
Western Regions Heaven at Happy Valley
Draken at Gyeongju World
Valkyria at Liseberg
And Yukon Striker at Canada’s Wonderland
Emperor is expected to open some time in 2020
Does the Fury 325 get on this list?
It doesn't no, Fury 325 is known as a Giga coaster due to its height :)
I’ve been on every thrill ride at Alton towers multiple times, Oblivion is the only one that still makes me nervous
I had that for ages too, but eventually I got too used to it! ;)
Why dive coasters is best in row 1? For me to ride why floorless dives has floor in row 2?
Can you do Hangtime: Explained? Hangtime is at my home park Knott’s
Great suggestion, I'll note it down :)
I suggest to you what is ISPEED It's a roller coaster in mirabilandia in Italy
I will add it to the list. :)
+COASTER BOT good choice ;)
Why are there so much divecoasters that have a turn after the lifthill? Is it there for a reason?
It often makes the layout more compact or is done to allow the ride to fit in the footprint the park has available. As a lift hill takes up a lot of space a turn is often required to ensure it doesn't keep travelling in a forwards direction and can begin the layout closer to the station :)
Dive Coasters: Explained
Dive Coasters are a model of coaster by B&M that is a huge chunk of pacing issue.
Could you do "What is: Vampire"? It will be a video of Vampire at Chessington World of Adventures.
I will add it to the list, thanks for the suggestion. :)
B&M didn't build the tower of terror in gold reef city. It had the holding brake and a longer vertical section than oblivion till it was re-engineered.
I didn't know that used to have a holding brake, that's rather interesting!
It was the pinnacle of anticipation in its opening year. coasterguy.squarespace.com/tower-of-terror/
I came here to say this. rcdb.com/1481.htm
Where is that baron 1898 coaster i need to ride that thing
The Efteling in the Netherlands. :)
Shiekra will always be my fave
How come? :)
Sentimental reasons really. First ever proper coaster I rode
They don't use breaks at the drop they never actually stop they are just on a slower chain that caught them keeps moving then just speeds up as you drop. Its so it feels like it stops but it does not.
make a video about the yukon striker at canada's wonderland please !!!
Yes plz more dive coaster looks like Canada wonder land is getting one
Yeah, I've heard the same thing! :)
I like dive coastets I've only ridden valraven but its exciting and I grayed out on the first drop
Oblivion is the most simple (I would expect that though as it was the first dive coaster) but to me, I think it has the best theming overall. I like the sci-fi vibe to it and the music suits it very well. I say that about most Alton towers coasters though, Alton towers is the best for theming.

Great video! I cannot wait to ride Valravn at Cedar Point, it'll be my first dive coaster! And I am so EXCITED for the Millennium Force video! That's my favorite roller coaster! :-)
Be sure to let me know how you found the ride! Great to hear you are excited for the next video. :)
Could you maybe do something explained at hersheypark? Any thing would be cool.
Anything specific that you would like to see?
+COASTER BOT Anything that you could get footage of, or any of the big ones. Honestly doesn't matter which one, because you probably have a long list.
I'll see what I can do! :)
+COASTER BOT Ok, thanks! 👍
The vests can be restrictive, but I've never found them to be that bad. I would prefer a lapbar design though, that would be fantastic! :)
what is valravn or blitz coaster would be so cool
I will add them to the list, thanks for the suggestion. :)
wonderland got one recently so far I haven't mustered up the courage to go on it though its just the hanging for 3 seconds thing that bothers me I prefer to just go rip it off like a bandage instead of stressing right out about dangling.
You can do it, the hanging isn't as bad as you think! ;)
Do you think they would ever upgrade Oblivion or replace it, it's a great ride but if it had been built later it probably would of had an inversion and 3 cars?
It is extremely unlikely that Oblivion will be upgraded. It is more likely that the ride would be taken down and replaced with an alternative roller coaster.
+COASTER BOT Another dive coaster or a different ride?
I guess only time will tell. I'd assume a different ride.
Liseberg (Sweden) opens one 2018
Indeed they do, it's very exciting! :)
One more opened in Gyoeungju World(Korea) in June 1st(but suffered 15 breakdown, now well-operating)#드라켄
1:53 thats the closest dive coaster in my area right now
not my home park but ive been there in july
it was S I C K
sheikra is too short tho
That's awesome to hear! :)
could you do what are flying coasters
Sure, I will add it to the list. Thanks for the suggestion. :)
Good job
Thank you! :)
I rode griffon at Busch gardens yesterday like 5 times in a row, it's so exhilarating😍😍😍
Awesome to hear! :)
Your best video
Thank you! :)
Btw the way it’s 20 m high not 50 I’m talking about oblivion
Oblivion measures 20m high but has a huge 55m drop! :)
Oh thank you for telling me I going to Alton towers soon so thank you for the info
Do you have any tips for not being scared of roller coasters beachside I have a small fear of them
Good work Harry, can't wait to meet you in Alton towers!
Thanks Glenn! :)
can you do dark rides explained, including bubbleworks, as a memory to the ride?
I will add it to the list, thanks for the interesting suggestion. :)
+COASTER BOT your welcome! :)
Dive coasters don’t have a brake. It is simply a chain with a static chain dog that engages with the chain
This is very true :)
Baron 1898👍
dive coasters be like: vertical drop; immleman; mid course; inversion; final brakes.
The worst ones do be like that
when is your live stream?
I'm afraid the live stream happened yesterday! The entire video will be uploaded soon. I will be also announcing the next live stream date very soon.
We need giga dive coasters!😁🎢
That'd be pretty awesome! :)
I want more mini dive coasters, they're cute xD
i would like to see a dive coaster that doesn't slam into a brake run after 2 elements (dive... Immelmann... brakes)
they have momentum, so they should do something with it.
Ride Baron 1898 or Krake then. Krake goes into an airtime hill after the Immelmann loop and then into the ECBR, and Baron (I believe) goes into a zero-G-roll then an inclined loop or helix, one of those two.
You should do, rmc coasters explained. If you haven't done it yet.
He's done individual RMC coasters explained, such as Twisted Colossus and Outlaw Run.
I will add it to the list, thanks for the suggestion. :)
I heard Mack rides is going to start building dive coasters... ;)
Now THAT would be cool, having basically wide versions of Lost Gravity's trains.
Those are rumours for now. They say it will be like Lost Gravity, but than with the hangtime at the top. I rode Lost Gravity 3 weeks ago, and it is amazing! They shouldn't Make a dive variant of it
i been on two dive coasters Valvraven and Sheikra. both are a lot of fun. i think it would be cool if Six Flags Great America got one:P
Why the statement at the beginning that B&M are the only manufacturers of dive coasters? Doesn't guertzlauer make them?
Gerstlauer do now, yes, but their dive coasters are quite different to the B&M equivalent.
Here’s one question I’ve been wondering about: why are most dive coasters are 200 feet?
I’ve wondered that too
Hangtime is the best
Awesome, it looks great! :)
This sounds like someone presenting there PowerPoint at school
I love the griffin!
Awesome! :)
how about an inverted launched stand up dive coaster and to piss everyone off it has vest restraints
What is Maverick?
It's on the list. :)
Does the drop feel like when you do on a drop tower?
The drop of a dive coaster feels somewhat different to that of a drop tower. This is because you move forward at the beginning and end of the drop. The vertical drop movement only lasts for a short amount of time.
Hopefully I get to ride Valravn in August! I love your channel bro! You should check out my channel, I do reviews and rants on theme park stuff!
I think such coasters should never come to a place where my school or friends will plan to visit for a picnic , so that I don't have to ride it
Cant wait for a lap bar vertical drop coaster.
Gerstlauer built one, Hangtime at Knott's Berry Farm! :)
