Our ham radio club interfaced Zello but did not use VOX and Signalink. When there is incoming transmission from the radio (detected from the DCD pin of the serial port), a bridge software triggers the PTT button of the Zello software. When there is audio coming from Zello, the same software activates the RTS pin of the serial port that goes to the radio interface. Also, our two-way radio interface circuit is DIY so the cost is lower compared to purchasing Signalink. Further, we use old Motorola Maxtrac/GM/M/CDM radios so cost is cheaper compared to the Motorola Tetras.
