- A scuffle broke out in the Taiwanese parliament days before the president-elect, Lai Ching-te, takes office without a legislative majority.

The opposition wants to give parliament greater scrutiny powers over the government, including a controversial proposal to criminalise officials who are deemed to make false statements in parliament. The ruling Democratic Progressive party has accused the opposition of improperly trying to force through the proposals without the customary consultation process in what they call 'an unconstitutional abuse of power'.

When Taiwanese politicians say 'we fight for you' to their constituents they really meant it.
Taiwan has a two-party system, so it is only a party struggle and has nothing to do with the truth of the incident.
Oh yeah
One of my Taiwanese friend told me that this fight that breaks up usually is preplanned. The constituents especially the older people felt that it meant the Assemblyman is fighting for you

It is never embarrassing for a country to have legislators who fight for the rights and interests of its people. The male legislator's party is striving to prevent the pro-China party, represented by the female legislator, from forcibly passing a bill that infringes on human rights and jeopardizes national security. He is fighting for Taiwan's democracy and freedom. If you prefer a parliament without dissenting opinions, please refer to China's National People's Congress, where people's rights perish in the peaceful and unanimous votes of the assembly.

The reforms, proposed by the Kuomintang (KMT) and the Taiwan People's Party (TPP), "exceed the bounds of those found in constitutional democracies around the world, subvert the rule of law and parliamentary procedures," the statement said.
Quoted by Ex-AIT directorand two dozen academics!
No one talks about a man attacking a woman almost using wrestling techniques. Shameful!

@@turingcs2001 you think an apology for that kind of behavior is enough?
Wait, this is like Black Friday at Walmart.
As a Taiwanese, this is insane to see. People are standing up against violence in congress. Besides, this also happened because the party with more people(KMT) and TPP are trying to pass a law that we don’t even know what it is about! However, this law is trying to oppress our freedom of speech and put people in jail if you are considered “contempt of congress” which includes talking back to the congress man and refusing to go to the congress as a person(not limited to citizens). The penalty and definitions are all unclear and whenever DPP( the party with less people) what to open a stage for debate and exchanging ideas. They end the discussion!!! This is insane and we as Taiwanese have to stand up to this to protect our freedom of speech and democracy!!!!

Taiwan government is more funny than the professional entertainment show.
What's the reason for the fighting please I really want to know
Because Taiwan's opposition parties, the Kuomintang and the People's Party (which are not in power but hold a majority in parliament), are pushing Congress to expand its power in an attempt to check and balance the power of the president (Lai Ching-te of the Democratic Progressive Party).
KMT tries to raise the threshold of deposition and modification of constitution, which is anti democracy imo
It traces back to the fact that the newly elected president from DPP is pro independence and he might push normalize Taiwan's identity by holding a referendum to change official name of Formosa from ROC to Taiwan or something else, and it might pass. KMT preemptively tries to prevent that from happening.

Don’t like the KMT either but over the last eight years, the Democratic DPP has committed numerous disgraceful acts, and they've tried everything to prevent the bill from being passed. Those who have closely followed recent party negotiations know that DPP legislators never seriously read the provisions but merely delayed proceedings with the aim of obstructing the bill's passage. They even proposed 80 different versions of the bill, with each version differing only in punctuation and a few words. Despite their majority in Congress, the DPP failed to deliver on the reforms promised over the past eight years. It's clear that there's no bill that can't be passed, only those that the DPP doesn't want to pass. Holding all the power, they have allowed Taiwan's wealth gap to reach 66 times while deceiving the international community with claims that only the DPP can protect Taiwan's sovereignty, resulting in severe hardship for the people of Taiwan.
I'm not surprised. Most DPP voters aren't very bright. Most DPP voters think that Trump is a protector of Taiwan's democracy (after he tried to end America's democracy). Most DPP voters are pro-lgbt rights & pro-vaccine but keep on trying to court Republican politicians from America.
Some things just never change.
