- Brian initially turned down an audition with AC/DC in London before sound man Andre Jacquemin invited him down to do the voiceover for this Hoover commercial.
Now able to pay for his train ticket to London, Brian took the chance on the audition too and the rest is history.
"It was a fast machine, it kept the bedroom clean, it was the best dam Hoover that I'd ever seen"... :))
Lol 😂
dang. that's funny
Dirty Floors Done Dirt Cheap.
🤣🤣🤣👍 That was good...lmao.
The comment of the day, hands down!
AWESOME!!!
clever but great love it lol
🤣🤣🤣
A silent, stunned crowd looked on as AC/DC closed the show with a Hoover vacuum cleaner song.
Just dropped a glass full of water when I saw this lol
Lol
That would be great to do for a laugh. Of course Hoover would want their cut.
"That last song really sucked man!"
@@therewillbeguitar8078 same 😂
For those about to hoover (we salute you)
😅😅😅😅
That's just TOO GOOD!!! 🤣👍
@@davidspencer2161 Hoover..VACUMMED ALL NIGHT LONG!
Vac in Black.
Back in Vac,

Now it sucks like new off the rack...
OMG
She was a fast machine
She kept the carpet clean
She was the best damn Hoover
That I'd ever seen
LOL 🤣
She, cleaned it allllllll night long
hahahahahahaha
Funny how an electrical appliance could be associated with Brian Johnson given he joined a band called AC/DC ! 😁👍
Now THAT'S an observation!
@@davidgoeschguitar6505 AC/DC wasn't an option, it just stated on a sticker or a plate what type of current and electrical voltage the sewing machine runs on.
@@davidgoeschguitar6505 And it was Angus and Malcolm's sister who came up with the idea from seeing it on her sewing machine.
@@perpetualbystander4516 he he. Or.... AC DC also means swings both ways.
I just got done reading his biography on audible and I didn't want it to end it's so good 🎶
Most rockin vacuum cleaner commercial ever💪💪
To think this adverts just been gathering dust all these years.
Good one 😂
It’s been on UA-cam for years
Such a voice! This dude would do good in a rock n' roll band...

Hahaha...even the commercials were rockin in the 70's and 80's! Man I miss those days.
This was a hybrid of Brian's 70's vocals and the more aggressive delivery that was to come in the 80's. This should have been made into a full length song!
Someone should convince him to go to a studio and find a way to dub in a second part
Absolutely not.
I’d like to take a moment to thank the UA-cam algorithm for this 🤣👍

He seems to be a really nice guy. When he interviews different artists he is so funny and likeable. Great voice also.
His transition from chest voice to head voice is so unique. Instantly recognizable.
Brian really cleaned up during this trip.
Man that voice!! So soulful!!! When he sang "it also sweeps" i felt that.

Brian used the 350 he got paid for this to drive from Newcastle to London for his ACDC audition🤘
Yep if you read his book at just came out I read the whole thing it's fantastic that stories in there 🎶🎶😎
£350 to get from Newcastle to London? Crikey
So glad this made it to the internet after hearing the story about it. soo good
wanna Join AC/DC? - NO

Let's Thank God For sewing Machines & Vacuum cleaners! LOL
‘Brushes right to the edge.’ 🤔 But does it go to the Razors Edge?
thanks Brian for uploading so many old videos lately
The only ad I’ve ever chosen to watch.
Now that’s saying something
For those about to vacuum, we salute you!!
Wow that's heavy vocal track if I had a band I'd be blown away and want you to come down to audition too, awesome Brian!

Shall we attempt to make this number one on spotify? A worthy cause.
That actually sounded extremely gritty, i love it
And a star was born!
"Spotlights, sirens, rifles firing... he made it out - with Hoover in his hand ..." - Jailbreak
This is awesome.
Was just using my 77' hoover concept. Still going strong! Its a beast but sucks like no other... hahaha
It's something that probably only Australians would notice, but Brian sounds a LOT like Jimmy Barnes in this commercial.
You mean Jimmy Barnes sounds like Brian?
Brushes right to the edge! 🎶
I always knew my Hoover rocked!
Rock n roll 🤘
The new high power compact Hoover walks behind you!
Hoover sweep besides you!

According to Brian Johnson on the Howard Stern show interview, he recorded this commercial and then, on the same evening, went to the AC/DC audition. The audition was already scheduled and AC/DC would not have been able to hear this commercial yet so I'm not sure how it "helped him join". He said the audition went well and they didn't even want him to leave. This commercial was released later. He mentioned he made 350 quid for this commercial and considered not going to the audition at all. I could certainly have something mixed up. After all, this is Brian Johnson TV, but that was my understanding and how I ended up here after searching for this. For the Howard Stern Show interview, search: Brian Johnson's Audition for AC/DC (2011)
Brian wasn’t sure about auditioning for AC/DC at first bc he had no money to go or whatever. But then Hoover called him up to do this commercial, he accepted and then told AC/DC he could only audition on this day.
That’s how it “helped him join” bc if Hoover didn’t offer/pay him for that, he wouldn’t of made the trip down and wouldn’t of been across the street from AC/DC. Like it wasn’t the published commercial itself that got him to AC/DC, just the fact that the two studios were right next to each other.
At least that’s what I’ve read about it.
@@ryanwelu5488 ah.. yes, that does make sense and fits perfectly with what I saw on Stern. Good point!
A gig's a gig.
For those about to suck... we salute you!!
Avrei acquistato l'aspirapolvere ad occhi chiusi.. 😂
Per me e tutti i miei parenti 😂
This is fucking amazing!
Damn if they still used this I'd be vacuuming with a Hoover.
*Throws money at screen *
Now all the carpet's cleeeeeean
Ooh, the best you've ever seeeen.
Dirt's got nowhere to ruuuuun...
You been..... Hoovered up!
_Yeah yeah yeah Hoovered up!"_
Apparently the young Don Van Vliet (later to find fame - infamy? - as Captain Beefheart) once sold vacuum cleaners door to door. He'd ring the bell, the lady of the house would open the door and he'd announce, "This machine sucks!"
Interesting. I love hearing about early jobs. Some off the top of my head: Many future Seattle grunge musicians worked for Muzak’s bureau there in the early ‘80s; Philip Glass was a cab driver & plumber in NYC; Alex Chilton was a tree cutter in New Orleans; Bruno Mars was an Elvis impersonator; Amy Adams was a Hooters girl; Charles Bukowski worked at a post office; Kim Gordon was an art critic...
It was fate that the buddy of Brian’s made the call that day in 1980 the same day AC/DC called after what sadly happened to Bon Scott it was sad but at the same time good fate for Brian that he made that decision to sing Tina Turner’s “ Nutbush city limits “ instead of Deep Purple’s “Smoke on the water” and that he decided to walk across the road to vanilla studios to meet up with the band the first time. After making this commercial/advertisement . I think it would be awesome to get to know Brian just once to meet him crack open a beer or a soda in my case cause I can’t drink alcohol cause of my seizure medicines? Just once in my life . My dad knew AC/DC he was part of the road crew before he died he said if he was alive still he would have been part of the road crew but cancer is a b and took him and they found out via the autopsy sadly.
Where do I buy one of those??
Holy shit!
I want one.
Whole Lotta Hoover
Does anyone know the date that Brian recorded his vocals for this ad ?
Hoover made Hoover! 😄
Where can I get one of these?
I guess it's cool they were shooting Robert Plant videos in 1980. It's a long way to the appliance closet, if you wanna rock and roll.
I would buy this
I'm buying a Hoover now
I need a pick me up (dust and that like...)
Holy shit
Shut up and take my money!
They were gonna hire iggy pop,, but Brian was available
I wondered how that would’ve sounded.
@@markusantonio4866 the first album would have flopped, then they would have broken up.
Thank God they hired Brian!
@@bullfrogpondshop3179 lol,,yea, I was joking....I thought about saying Barry manilow
I'm sold. I'm buying a Hoover
Who made Whoover

LOL 😂😂😂😂😂
RUDE, how DARE you turn down ACDC, butt damn, so happy you came to your senses afterwards, i loved DC before but loved you guys a lot more since you joined the band
So this was recorded in 1979 then? Was the commercial filmed then though? It looks very 1980's.
The vocals for this commercial were done in April 1980.
Well now I got to buy a Hoover.
gross
