I like guitar hero live just not how it was implemented. The 6 fret is fun and a really great idea, they failed on implementing it properly. Tv is flopping and live doesn’t have enough songs to care about once

I mean obviously it's Soulless 4, but it highlights a lot of the reason I never got into GHL. It takes every previous GH game's muscle and pattern memory and concepts like anchoring and throws it out the window for the sake of meaningless innovation. Sections where you can at least tell where your fingers are supposed to be based on the contrasting colours and the shapes the groups of notes make on the screen in GH because a mess of grey, white, blue and pink and it's practically impossible to tell the difference between top-row and bottom-row frets at these speeds.
It they should have just added a 6th color to the normal frets
Or even better, keep it at five fret (including all of the colors) while including the general design of GHL with the triangle button display along with the split fret board.
In short, the center of the triangles will be a large solid color representing the colored fret board like in previous GH games, and the outside of the triangles will be a sizeable solid color representing the split fret board of GHL. All regular notes will have the triangles face down, HOPOs will be represented with the inside color of the triangle glowing bright enough to indicate a note pattern change, and tap notes will have the triangles face up. The track itself will still be straight lines (abandoning circles altogether), but will be colored accordingly to the triangular note variants above it. This would have been a much better way to transition from the old GH to new GH.
Also, not really needing to mention this, but this would create _10 Fret_ Guitar that functions miles better than GHL's 6 Fret. Talk about missing the bar...

EDIT, 3 years later: Hmm, a variety of preferences. I suppose this is one of those things where it depends on the person, and there really isn't a single "right way".
TechSY730 I think it is more over the transition of original GH players to Live. I think Live is a fine game because i do not play with the original layout enough. But if I did, I'd probably dislike the game.
well they say it's easier for beginners because you only use 3 fingers (if you don't move your strumming hand up the neck)

Personally I think through the fire and flames is alot easier on guitar hero live (I suck at it on either engine) .. the tricky part is getting your brain to get used to the black/white level changes .. and the chords where you have to bar both frets can be awkward ..
I (personally) dislike the original layout. I have smaller hands, and after seeing guitar hero live for $10 with the guitar brand new, and having to replace my gh3 guitar since it finally broke, I gave it a shot. I'm actually considerably better with the live controller, and don't get nearly as much hand fatigue. I still like the original guitar since some charts don't play well with the 6 fret layout, but I think that I'll stick with the 6 fret as my main. But to answer your question, most people just CANT get used to the layout as it either confuses them or they can't read the charts as easily.

There are 3 buttons on top and 3 on the bottom. It's hard to see them because they're the same color as the fret board but just google guitar hero live guitar and you'll see them. When you see the icons pointing up (the dark ones) it means you press the top buttons and when you see them pointing down (the white ones) you press the down buttons, when there's a white and dark one then you press both buttons at the same time. It's awful to play and I don't know who in the world thought it was a great idea.

Yeah it's really bad. I'm surprised someone ever approved the release of it. This is also why guitar hero live guitars sell for dirt cheap prices second hand, because many people want to get rid of them and almost nobody wants to buy them.
Hey man don't listen to what just one guy says on the internet. I used to play GH3 all the time when I was about 10. The 5 button layout is actually a little harder on the hands than the new 6 fret one. I noticed my hand getting tired a lot faster playing the 5 fret. While it is a bit easier it's a lot more tiring, also idk if it's just my controllers or what but the 6 fret buttons seem a bit easier to press down than the 5 fret. Ill give some pros and cons for each. 6 Fret: Pros: buttons seem easier to press (might be just me), lot less tiring, more button combinations (makes it more fun once you get used to it). Cons: Bit harder for beginners, but when you get used to it it's a lot of fun. Hard for gh veterans to get into. Also some of the charts on expert seem a bit crazy compared to 5 fret. 5 Fret: Pros: Easier for beginners, classic original feel, strumming seems to be a bit easier, a lot more songs are made for it on clone hero. Cons: buttons seem slightly harder to press, more tiring especially on hard and expert since you're stretching and moving your hand much more, much more expensive controller. I hated the 6 button layout at first, but after a few days I started loving it, I play it whenever i feel like taking a break from the 5 fret. Trust me it's fun, you just gotta have an open mind, and take your time getting used to it.
The button layout is an improvement for players with small hands; however they took away the colored notes and it becomes a mess.
I prefer the og one.

I too use 6 fret! I'm a huge 6 fret fan!! If they every made a new Guitar Hero I hope (I know they won't) they make a new 6 fret guitar. The 6 fret is one of my favorite guitars. Don't get me wrong 5 fret is amazing I love it. I grew up with 5 fret. But 6 is just amazing!! You know.

I can't believe the GHL highway is even remotely understandable. The Rocksmith highway makes sence, and it has ALL the frets XD. I know somewhere out there there are people who are able to understand what the highway is throwing at them, and people who like this game even with all it's shortcomings, but I personally just can't understand what it means. It makes nooo sense to me and by the look of some of the comments, I'm not the only one.

I can barely process 5 notes at hyperspeed 9 on these kinds of songs, let alone 9 different notes in 3 rows that close together. I don't know what this chart was trying to accomplish, other than probably making Soulless 4 even more difficult than it already is. Note to Acai, never do this again.

It takes a different style of thinking, your crammed into a small box pressing up down and both.
After playing a game in a style for years it will confuse the brain when its presented with something new, most people wont want to carry on due to being highly skilled at GH and moving to GHL requires lowering the difficulty to learn. Which is visually boring therefore mentally boring.
Nothing to do with "bright neon colours", it's forcing your mind to unlearn and relearn. People who are just picking up GH and do so with Live will enjoy it alot more than someone transfering over.
