Schliemann blew up Troy. He exploded it. He turned a priceless archeological find into dust and forever condemned the truth of the Trojan War to the sands of time.
Sigh...yup. As soon as I heard Robert say "he dug too far" I came right to the comments to clarify that he blew it to smithereens. Such a loss for human history :(
Can confirm, swastikas are everywhere in India. It's a holy symbol in Hinduism. The word itself is Sanskrit. Also can confirm about some Indic languages being similar to many European languages. I studied Hindi for a time. It's true there are almost no cognates, but the underlying grammar rules were quite intuitive to my English-speaking mind. Studying it was genuinely fun.
I took three years of Latin in high school, and it really unlocked language for me. I took a number of grammar classes throughout my school career, but none of it stuck until Latin class.
When I was 9 or 10, the OJ trial was going on and at recess we ended up arguing whether he was innocent or guilty and I didn't even know what he was accused of, but I took innocent because everyone else was saying guilty and it seemed unfair at the time...
That was me living in Chicago when Bush was running against Kerry. Everyone was saying Kerry was better, so I said Bush. Then they hit me with like, "Bush is gonna cut school funding" and some other stuff I've forgotten, and I had nothing

Indeed, but the Japanese manji symbol did ultimately come from Indian Buddhism, even if the swastika pattern has basically been everywhere since the paleolithic.

Gotta say, the French at the time where that animal cruelty was taking place were primitive savages. I hope those festivals exacerbated disease outbreaks due to the lack of rodent and pest control during that time period.
The phrase is "bugfuck nuts." Adverb-adjective, means really crazy. Doesn't really make sense when you drop the nuts and try to use bugfuck alone as an adjective.

Im just now realizing: "Aryan" in the historic sense, is the reason we have the term "Indo-European" today. If the Nazis had never corrupted the word, we probably would _still_ be using it today in that context, ie the early languages of what we today call Europe, Northern India, and the Iranian Plateau. Bc that connection _does_ exist! It just wasn't the result of an ancient race of fucking white people! Its just the early language family, that branched off as cultures became more distinct! Linguistic is cool on its own, you didn't have to add fucking _Nazism_ into it 🤦♀️

There's an alternate universe where the Nazis put that weird S on their flag and kids draw swastikas all over their notebooks.
But little kids already kind of do ... swastikas are not that hard to draw and they look cool.
