I celebrated my 50th birthday 🎉listening to this very episode. Wife bought me a brand new RCA console radio (the wood cabinet must have weighed 70lbs alone. Back then radios were considered pieces orlf furniture, not anything like today's earbuds or blue tooth speakers)
When the show ended, we took a stroll down to the ice cream store in town which served these Uber thick milkshakes made in a Hamilton Beech stainless steel blender and they gave you the extras and because it was my birthday, I got 2 plus a mountain of hot fries served with Heinz Ketchup and a double bacon burger.
      Boy was I full.
After that we walked down to the music store and I took my birthday money my mom gave me and bought my first electric guitar, which after nearly seventy years of practicing I still pretty much stink up the joint.
When we got home, a new Labrador puppy I had gotten for my wife's and I's 30th anniversary two weeks prior had nawled off the bottom of the radio completely which had to be completely restored by the furniture repairman in town.
Radio still blasts loud to this day. Albeit all the radio stations out there pretty much suck as bad as my guitar playing.
So now I use UA-cam for playing music listening to Led Zep, AcDc, Rush, and Molly Hatchet.
And that's how I stumbled upon Gunsmoke. I feel like I'm 50 again. And I certainly wish Chester was still around. The puppy who grew into a 120 lb teddy bear.

That's likely a sobriquet he earned by stacking the deck.

Les Crutchfield was second only to John Meston as a "GUNSMOKE" writer.
