UPDATE March 2022: FeedBurner's email service is finally going to be shut down. The current notice in FeedBurner is:
_In the coming weeks we will complete the migration we announced last year onto a more stable, modern infrastructure and start turning down non-core feed management features, including email subscriptions. All existing feeds will continue to serve uninterrupted. Core feed management functionality will continue to be supported, including the ability to burn a new feed, change the URL, source feed, title, and podcast metadata of your feed._

Thank for this. I have one question I hope you can answer. I only have a couple of dozen subscribers that show up on my blog, but according to feedburner, there are hundreds of them. Do you know what this is all about?
Feedburner "Subscribers" are subscribers to your feed, for example that use a feed reader. That is different than the number that subscribe to the feed by email, or that follow your blog on Blogger. There are more details here: support.google.com/feedburner/answer/78955
In addition to what PeggyK said, the reason may be that your subscribers on FeedBurner have not clicked the Confirm subscription via email yet 🙂
So, only the active subscribers will be shown on your blog 🙄
I'm just now starting my blog, how do I get an email sign up section added to my page now that this feature is gone on Blogger?
You're going to have to decide what service you want to use for your emails. And they should then provide a sign-up link or gadget
This may sound crazy, but I just learned about this change to Feedburner and I've been blogging along the whole time. My subscribers are still receiving emails. Can you help me understand what is happening and why I should find another service instead of just sticking with Feedburner? What am I missing? I feel like they changed their minds or something and have continued with the email subscriptions. Thank you!
That's a good question. I don't know why the emails are still going out through FeedBurner when they said it was no longer going to be supported. I think what is true is that you cannot count on that happening in the long term. It could be shut off at any time. So it's better to start migrating to a different service so you are not getting new email subscriptions to the FeedBurner service. I did look into different services, and I compared them in this post:

I went with a handcrafted newsletter, but you might want one of the automated services instead.
Just a quick update that if you sign in to FeedBurner now, there is a notice that says that email subscriptions will be turned off in the coming weeks. So emails will stop going out via FeedBurner soon.
How do you get the unverified emails, verified
The verification process is up to the person who submitted the email. A verification email is sent to them, and they have to click the link to approve it. You could try sending it again, but it may just be a sign that they change their mind about signing up, or someone submitted their email without them knowing.
