Cant wait just put the camper in a local garage to have new timing belt and driveshaft serviced and every thing checked over and winter service ready to rock and roll in Scotland.

Great watch, very informative. Can you advise on which map is the best, the folding map you had looked so very informative, much better than i have seen available to order.
Hi Brian, I've done Wrynose in a hired passenger Transit van not a motorhome. Lovely smell of burning clutch. As for Applecross, I know I could drive that route. I'm not worried about that. But that sign says not to drive it if your vehicle is larger than a VW camper. So I stick to what is says. The problem is causing mayhem by blocking the road for others. I don't want to do that.
Hi BP174, we picked up the map from Inverness Tourist Office. It's free. You can also download it from here www.northcoast500.com/home/download-map/north-coast-500_map.aspx
@@HermanHitstheRoad we travel with quiet music or own own conversations and my #Helga2004 videos reflect this. Some people dub relevant pleasant music on their videos....
@@HermanHitstheRoad Correct, not keen on loud music driving thru the peaceful country, the engine noise, you chatting etc is better! Thanks, I'll try another video of yours!
I like you chatting in the van and pointing out locations on the map! We also saw Smoo Cave, see 2:00, as they were closing!! but they let us in! Looks like we all see the same beaches and cliffs, except we had a good look around the Strathnairn?? Museum ua-cam.com/video/kIPFiSaLOz4/v-deo.html
Hi Peter, thanks for watching. We got the map for free from the Tourist Information Centre in Inverness. There is also a website with an interactive map here www.northcoast500.com/explore-the-route/ Are you thinking of doing the NC500? Will you be taking a motorhome?
Yes we are (in a hired motor-home) although due time restraints we only have a few nights, so thought this wee map looked ideal, giving us a better idea of the route and which roads are suited for these type vehicles, I noted a few of your comments too :) and I can see some useful info there, thanks for the communication, It is much appreciated.
You were told at one point that the best scenery was still to come. The person who told you that was probably doing the NC500 anti-clockwise as many prefer to do as it does get more spectacular as you go. If you do it again, do it anti-clockwise and it will all look completely different. PS. Love the deliberate mistakes!!
Hi weebolddavy, thanks for the advice. If we do it again I think we'll incorporate Skye and a couple of other islands. Which deliberate mistake is that then?
Apart from the Gretna Green gaff!! You had Braemar just down from Gruinard Bay. Just as well you didn't ask directions to Braemore you might have ended up in the Queens back garden at Balmoral!! Love the format of the video.
As a Scotsman, who knows the #NC500 and my Country well, i’d like to make a few constructive comments. Please try and learn the pronunciation of our Towns and Cities. At the very beginning of your video, whilst in the Borders area you talked of “Jedburg”. It’s Jedburgh…pronounced Jedburra. There’s no burg in burgh! Please also don’t refer to the Highland Capital City of Scotland as a Town. You do it it a great disservice. If you were ever to be brave enough to tour the #NC again, can I suggest you try doing it anti clockwise. Leaving Inverness and effectively turning Right and travelling up the East Coast first. I’ve found that 48hrs more than sufficiently affords time to cover that stretch to John O’Groats…..leaving you 5 to 7 days to do the Northern coastline and the West coast…which is the most spectacular, rightly affording it’s position in the Worlds Greatest Road Trips. Please don’t focus on the inclement weather….nobody comes to Scotland for it’s climate…and if you do…well no sympathy. Instead practise on your pronunciation of our small towns, whiskies and road names. I cringed at your pronounciation of the Bealach Na Bà….possibly more painful to listen to that than it is to drive it! Apart from these mild constructive comments….I glad youtook the time out to come to my beautiful Country, and help in your own wee way with the Scottish Economy.
Thanks for the tips, @bgm 👍👍. Also, thanks for watching and taking the time to comment. I like the idea of doing the NC500 anti-clockwise but I'm not sure if/when we'll do it again.
I'm glad you enjoyed the video, Robert. Did you know that motorhomes, campervans and caravans are all recreational vehicles or leisure vehicles or simply just vans?
Single track roads are NOT designed for camper vans. Vans that bring nothing, wreck the machair and damage local habitats. Wish they'd all show consideration and stay off the route. See NC500 THE Land Weeps, on Facebook, to see the harm being done and the views of locals.
Hi Adam and Zoe long time viewer and subscriber ( from day one vid 1 even your old minecraft days)... don't comment much now as they don't seem to get answered very often...Also just a observation but does zoe not enjoy the vlogging much now as she has not looked very happy in the last few vids...NOT A MOAN JUST AN OBSERVATION :)
+Buzz. Hi Buzz, Minecraft? Wow, that's going back some years. So you moved across from my gaming channel to Herman's? Nice to know. As for Zoe she is camera shy and she probably gets few up of me pointing a camera at her. I read all the comments and I do try to respond to all of them. Sometimes though I might not have an answer and I guess I forget to go back and respond. Sorry about that. Will try harder ;-)
Don't do this trip! The locals in the Highlands will not welcome you. You will overcrowd a very narrow road with few passing places. No-one can go about their business because of pesky tourists. Highland Council has shut all the public toilets so you'll be forced to do the needful in roadside lay-byes. The papers have been full of stories and pictures of people leaving their sh*t all over the countryside. Don't do this trip!
No problem, Tony. Glad you enjoyed the video. This video was recorded in 2017 so it might be all different now because a lot more people are staycationing. We went in May to avoid the midges. I hope that helps?
EXCELLENT mate WHAT a delight NOT to have music dubbed OVER speech. I was beginning to think it was compulsory to make hearing difficult on UA-cam. :¬)
I never thought the scenery dwindled out! We enjoined the whole drive in #Helga2004.. you have to drive long distances sometimes to get there... A shame to rush, we just ambled. missed Glenlivet, but toured Oban... We have had the taste of camping for 56 years, just got back from four days in #CubyKamparoo at Jervis Day. we were sorting things out before a trip for a couple of months to Kakadu...
Enjoyed the video, really insightful, thank you. Haven't done it yet but hoping to end of this year, fingers crossed but with the current situation (covid-19) we'll see, maybe next year. Thank you though 😁👍 xxx
Hi Cathy, the NC500 is very nice. It's probably going to be more busier than ever this year af5er lockdown. Probably best doing it out of season but don't forget it snows there in winter. It'll be amazing whenever you go though.
@@HermanHitstheRoad yes I imagine it will be really busy as soon as we get the green light so so to speak. We're in Wales so chomping at the bit just for a day trip at the mo, but shielding also so prepared to go when the rush is over 😁👍 Loved all the views and your underwater footage, that was wonderful. My husband has been nagging me for ages to do the NC500. What with the current situation and the shielding I've ended up having the time to watch video's like yours. It really opened my eyes to how amazing a trip it would be. On another video I watched, someone also suggested doing the NC500 anti-clickwise, app the views are even better going that way. Can't imagine it beating the views you had but worth a look maybe. Thanks again and keep safe 😁👍 xxx
Great video, looks an amazing trip, and really surprised by the route from John'o groats to Inverness on the A9. Thought that would be a straight dual carriage way, looks pretty scenic, way more scenic than i thought👍..as for the western side, pretty much what i thought, stunning! What a place🏞🤘
Love this video guys, it was this video that inspired us to get a Campervan and start our own UA-cam channel, we've been doing this 12 months now but we have still a lot to learn to get anywhere near your standards, anyway keep up the good work and have a safe journey 👍.
Thanks for such a lovely comment, guys. Good luck with the channel. Feel free to join us at HermanFest in June. Here's the announcement video ua-cam.com/video/sb8YEkKWECE/v-deo.html
Adam, just a word of caution - regarding your hook up cable reel, its not advised to have cable rolled up on a coil while plugged in to 240v, its been known that the cable while rolled up can get very hot and fires have been caused through it = BTW great video and editing - really got our taste buds watering for this same trip - awsome stuff !
hi, i just watched someone's video of nc500 before yours and was put off going because of the boring monotonous views. anyway watched yours and guess what? it's back on . great video and your wife who wasn't keen on wild camping changed her mind by the end. lol
Hi David, that's funny but how can you be bored of all the scenery, that's what you go for? Glad you enjoyed the video and that you'll be going. What will you be going in? 👍👍
Loved your video so much, you are both a great couple, me and my wife would really get along with you. By the way its Jedburgh (jedbruh) rather than Jed burg 😉
Brilliant video of your trip. I have watched quite a few as we are planning to do this next year. Your map of the route also looked really good and informative. What map was it ( if you can remember?) Definitely the best video yet and made us both really excited to go ourselves. Thanks
Thanks Terry. I glad you enjoyed the video. When are thinking of going? Details of the map is in the video description. It's free from Tourist Information in Inverness
A good watch as we are thinking of doing the NC500 in 2021. Not having a motorhome, we wondered about accommodation on the route or hiring a van in Inverness. I watched a different video and they agreed with you that the West coast is the best side for scenery so suggested doing the route anti clockwise leaving the best until last. Sounds like a plan?
Wonderful video, My wife and I are planning to return to Scotland to do the NC500. We will be taking our camper over Bealach Na Ba to Applecross. I've seen a few others do it, and with some of the roads in Tasmania, it should be pretty easy
A fantastic video of the NC500, we have toured Scotland a few times and this is a 'still to do' having seen your video we are definitely going to do it next spring. Thanks for the inspiration!
That's great, Carole. We're glad you enjoyed the video - just watch out for the midges in the spring. Where else have you been in Scotland? Any recommendations?
Hi yes we did the Northwest 500 and we were up there for four weeks thoroughly enjoyed it took her time but at one stage we were being eaten alive by the midges love you videos
My daughter, sister and brother went to the lakes district, stayed in a rental in Hawksheas in 2015. Beautiful terrain. Ambelside was very close. Driving was terrifying as we are from the States and weren’t used to roads with bypasses. People were very welcoming, walking was too nice to believe. Didn’t make it to Scotland. Another trip hopefully
Really good video on the NC500, my wife and I thoroughly enjoyed it. We emigrated to Vancouver Canada in our 20's a long time ago from Scotland and watching your video made us both homesick. We watched several NC500 vids on UA-cam found this one to be the best in our opinion. Very well put together excellent camera and drone work, very entertaining - well done. Question did you hire the RV or do you own it?
Thanks David, glad you enjoyed it. We've owned Herman the Hymer since 2010. We have used a few rentals in the past including travelling across Canada from Vancouver 👍🚐 ua-cam.com/video/MS-fNDMhkps/v-deo.html
I travelled the NC500 in September 2018 but in a car stopping every night at a b&b or hotel. I do like the idea of a motor home and wild camping. If it wasn't for Covid I would have done it again but taking longer. I travelled from London and back in 7 days which was too rushed.
Awesome rock pool footage. You could add much to your footage for a guy like me if you spent more time on flora and fauna, but without the interest it would definitely not be worth your while.
Hi Britt, we love wildlife. Not so much the flora. We're glad you are enjoying the video and love your comments. You may be interested in our visits to the WWT ua-cam.com/video/Qe3qZlasedc/v-deo.html
Hello Adam and Zoe. Love your videos. Yours was the first video I stumbled across when researching the nc500. Ive been over the kylesku bridge today, but unlike yourselves I stopped at both car parks. Walked under it and walked over it and had my dinner there. Keep up the videos 👍👍
Oh don't tell us that an04ker 😉We're going to have to redo the NC500 just so that we can stop there. Did you stay overnight there? I guess it's quite a busy road. All the very best. We're glad you enjoy the videos. Have you subscribed yet?
@@HermanHitstheRoad We will be in Bessacarr 599 .. I have done the trip on a motorbike before but it should be a whole new experience in the motorhome.
It’s a shame so many follow the route religiously. The road from Fort William to Applecross - A87 Dornie, Strathcarron is a huge miss if you ask me. Done the west side to Tongue many a time but always turned back to Durness as found after that it was just boring. Doing the East coast side to Inverness just dull and once I’ve done it that was enough. But can’t count the Glasgow to Durness with friends on driving holidays in Cars - it’s simple that part is stunning. We did this twenty years ago when they didn’t sell petrol on a Sunday on the Sabbath, you didn’t see another car for an hour. The last six times have been the last few years and sadly it’s a lot more busy.
I loved Zoe’s “slow down”. I know how she feels and you two sounded like me and my hubby 😂😂. Great video, really looking forward to getting our motorhome and exploring

Hoping to do the nc5oo next year, great video :) just for whoever might see this, no alcohol while driving in Scotland though, the legal limit is zero ;) I have been corrected, legal limit is indeed 50whatevers but still not worth the risk imo, stay safe all :)
@@HermanHitstheRoad dunno dates yet depends when Mr gets his holidays booked ;) our wee top driver52 mobilvetta, we live in Scotland so know midgies well hahaaa
Actually, legal limit is 50mg not 80mg in blood as in England. Breath is 22 not 35. Lots of people don't drink as one 'large one' could put you on or over limit. Depends on many factors and not worth risk in many people's minds...
Good morning from a sunny Whitley Bay .We pick up the hire camper Aug bank holiday unfortunately only for 1 week .. I am a little concerned about the narrow roads especially in a hired vehicle .Thanks for fab info... Liz
Hi Liz, don't worry about the narrow sections of the NC500. Scottish roads are better than most other places because they have frequent clearly marked passing bays and you can always see the next one so you can plan what you do. Don't drive nose to tail with other vehicles because you might not get in one bay. Let other vehicles get by you because you're not in a rush but others might be. Check out the official NC500 website for motorhome driving advice www.northcoast500.com/top-tips-hitting-route/motorhomes-and-campervan-advice/
A very well produced video! I live on the NC500 and it’s always nice to see our area through a visitor’s eyes. Reminds me what we’ve got here. But, I’m amazed that’ like many NC500’ers, you skipped the entire east coast in one day! There is so much to see there; Wick with its Thomas Telford designed harbour and town, Lybster harbour, the Whaligoe Steps, Helmsdale’s harbour and Timespan museum with its history of the Clearances, then onto Dunrobin Castle and the nature reserve at Golspie, thebroch at Carn Liath and Loch Fleet nature reserve. Then there’s the whole of the Tarbat Peninsula, with the beautiful fishing village of Portmahomack and the lighthouse at Tarbat Ness (one of Scotland’s tallest). I think maybe we’re a victim of the road being much faster on the east side, so it’s easy to skip many of these places. Granted, it’s not as pretty and doesn’t have the instant “wow” factor of the north west, but it definitely rewards a little time`and patience. I highly recommend you do the route again, but this time anti-clockwise and linger along that east coast. You won’t be disappointed! Also, come in October and see the northern lights! Safe travels.
Thanks Mark, those places sound great. I think you're right about the road being much faster. We'd love to do it again but much slower. I'm glad you liked the video, it means so much. Where abouts do you live on the NC500?
Herman the Hymer We’re in Tain (on the east coast, as I’m sure you guessed!). Moved here from Hampshire 6 years ago. Just about to push the button on buying a Toyota Regius camper conversion so we can do our own roaming round the NC500. I’m a part time professional landscape photographer and the camper will be ideal for getting on location at the right time of day. If you need the inside track on any aspects of the east coast and especially the Tarbat Peninsula, let me know.👍
Glad you enjoyed it. Liked your video, but you should ask some of the locals about the pronunciation of the place names. Some of them are a bit of the mark.

;¬)
Hi Brian, I've done Wrynose in a hired passenger Transit van not a motorhome. Lovely smell of burning clutch.
As for Applecross, I know I could drive that route. I'm not worried about that. But that sign says not to drive it if your vehicle is larger than a VW camper. So I stick to what is says. The problem is causing mayhem by blocking the road for others. I don't want to do that.
Great coverage. Where did you get the map ? We are looking at doing a similar trip next May 2018
Hi BP174, we picked up the map from Inverness Tourist Office. It's free.
You can also download it from here
www.northcoast500.com/home/download-map/north-coast-500_map.aspx
Wonderfully entertaining vid. Thank you. How did you know to stop ay places like Smoo Cave etc that aren't marked on your map? Cheers DD
Hi Diesel Dave, a lot of places where marked on the map. Smoo was one of them but I think we stopped whenever we felt like it. Missed lots though
We never heard loud "Music" on our trip in #Helga2004
I'm not sure what this means, Bill. Care to explain?
@@HermanHitstheRoad we travel with quiet music or own own conversations and my #Helga2004 videos reflect this. Some people dub relevant pleasant music on their videos....
Do you mean you don't like the music in the videos, Bill?
@@HermanHitstheRoad Correct, not keen on loud music driving thru the peaceful country, the engine noise, you chatting etc is better! Thanks, I'll try another video of yours!
I like you chatting in the van and pointing out locations on the map!
We also saw Smoo Cave, see 2:00, as they were closing!! but they let us in! Looks like we all see the same beaches and cliffs, except we had a good look around the Strathnairn?? Museum ua-cam.com/video/kIPFiSaLOz4/v-deo.html
“Best scenery from now”, except you went clockwise instead of anti-clockwise so you’ve passed the best!
That;s what we were told, Glen. Next time we'll go anti-clockwise
Wheredid you get that map from?
Hi Peter, thanks for watching. We got the map for free from the Tourist Information Centre in Inverness. There is also a website with an interactive map here www.northcoast500.com/explore-the-route/
Are you thinking of doing the NC500? Will you be taking a motorhome?
Yes we are (in a hired motor-home) although due time restraints we only have a few nights, so thought this wee map looked ideal, giving us a better idea of the route and which roads are suited for these type vehicles, I noted a few of your comments too :) and I can see some useful info there, thanks for the communication, It is much appreciated.
If you only have a few nights then I suggest the west side is a must compared to the east side. I hope you enjoy it. Let us know how you get on
You were told at one point that the best scenery was still to come.
Isle of Lewis/Harris is awesome, amazing beaches
Map not got a legend?
:¬( )
Yes, the map has a legend.
They are not R. V. THEY ARE MOTOR HOMES WE DON'T LIVE USA
Thanks for commenting, @sweetiepie1372
If THAT's "spectacular" - WAIT for Scotland lad.
Hi Brian, I'm not sure I understand. He are in Scotland.
Oh, you're referring to the stop off in Cumbria
Shieldaig is pronounced shieldayg
Thanks
I suppose being scottish is handy for me with the pronunciations of scottish places 😂😂😂😂 But you're more than welcome x Loving the vlog
Jedburgh is pronounced jedborough.
Really, Steve? As in Peterborough?
Not good

Wow, this was three years ago and it's getting worse
I can’t imagine anything lovelier than sitting in a camper van with the rain pelting down in a beautiful setting like that, how relaxing.
I know. I miss those days. Seems such a long-time ago
Great video thanks for taking the time to share it. We have been put off by reports of how busy it is but didn't look to bad in may
No problem, Tony. Glad you enjoyed the video. This video was recorded in 2017 so it might be all different now because a lot more people are staycationing. We went in May to avoid the midges. I hope that helps?
EXCELLENT mate
WHAT a delight NOT to have music dubbed OVER speech.
I was beginning to think it was compulsory to make hearing difficult on UA-cam.
:¬)
Haha Brian. UA-cam sometimes changes the audio, makes the music louder.
he has made very informative clip, thanks herman

I never thought the scenery dwindled out! We enjoined the whole drive in #Helga2004.. you have to drive long distances sometimes to get there... A shame to rush, we just ambled. missed Glenlivet, but toured Oban...
We have had the taste of camping for 56 years, just got back from four days in #CubyKamparoo at Jervis Day. we were sorting things out before a trip for a couple of months to Kakadu...
Thanks for that, Bill. Definitely need to slow down while travelling around Scotland to take in those amazing views. 👍🚐👍
Great footage, better music would be a benefit to your great enjoyable footage !👍
Thanks Mick. We're glad you enjoyed the video. What music would you suggest?
I think the next time we go to the NC500 we'll be doing it anti clockwise too.
Thanks Paul. Glad you enjoyed the video 👍👍🚙

As a mate of mine used to say - Raining PISSistantly.
yup, it's wet in Scotland 👍🌧

Definitely the best video yet and made us both really excited to go ourselves.
Thanks PDG, you should check out the NC500 official website. There's loads of info on their including accommodation. 👍👍👍🚐🚐
Wonderful video, My wife and I are planning to return to Scotland to do the NC500. We will be taking our camper over Bealach Na Ba to Applecross. I've seen a few others do it, and with some of the roads in Tasmania, it should be pretty easy
Good luck with that LowRider but you should only do it if your van is small. We'd love to go back to Scotland - missing it
A fantastic video of the NC500, we have toured Scotland a few times
and this is a 'still to do' having seen your video we are definitely going to do it next spring.
Glad you enjoy our video, Tony. Thanks.👍 Yup, midges are a problem. What time of year did you go?

We have used a few rentals in the past including travelling across Canada from Vancouver 👍🚐

I really enjoyed this video Scotland at its best ❤🇹🇹
Thanks Karen. Scotland is amazing 👍👍

Thank's for the cool video, hoping to do the NC500 in June 2020. 🙂🚐👍
That's great Mr Johnson, what will you be travelling in? Just watch out for the midges
Thanks for the comment Scotch. You give some good travel advice. Do you live in or locally to Scotland?
I loved Zoe’s “slow down”. I know how she feels and you two sounded like me and my hubby 😂😂. Great video, really looking forward to getting our motorhome and exploring

Check out the official NC500 website for motorhome driving advice
www.northcoast500.com/top-tips-hitting-route/motorhomes-and-campervan-advice/
If you need the inside track on any aspects of the east coast and especially the Tarbat Peninsula, let me know.👍
Thanks
