    I got a VR headset a couple of weeks ago and it feels like it is the first time the promise of 'you will feel like you're inside the game!' is kept. It is amazing how you start noticing that what seemed flat is now very noticeably curved, and lines are so much easier to find. When playing online I was like 'I'm getting very lucky avoiding crashes and opponents lately' but after some thought, it's the stereoscopic image that makes it easier. It's like you're reacting instead of interpreting and then reacting. I was able to decrease tenths in the first half hour, and races seem MUCH shorter. 20 minutes feel like nothing now.

    I agree with you. Nothing beats 3D (ie. stereo) vision. I'm using 3x 27" 1440p monitors with Nvidia 3D Vision and it's insane. I've seen and played on many types of monitors such as ultrawide, 4K, HDR, OLED, 240 Hz, etc. but if the view isn't 3D/stereo then all those other specs & features don't matter because you're still looking at a 2D "piece of paper". I'd do almost anything to be able to have triple 32" 3D monitors but sadly they don't exist. I'll eventually move over to VR headsets; I'm just waiting for the tech to improve so I can still see my real-life cockpit around me.

    I have both the Pimax 8KX and a triple-screen setup with TrackIR. The final verdict for ‘me’ is that I can’t do without either one, so I’m keeping them BOTH! I predominately run Flight Simulator and DCS World. Many of the aircraft in those sims are “study grade” level aircraft and can be quite challenging and time consuming to learn. Constantly bouncing in-and-out of VR while trying to learn an aircraft is a real pain, and I’ve found the most expedient way to learn them, is to run the sim on the 3-monitor setup while having the aircraft manual open on a nearby laptop! Also…
    If you’re doing anything competitive in DCS World (dogfighting) you’ll need the higher resolution and performance the 3-monitor setup affords or your opponent is likely gonna SMOKE ya every time! (Lose sight, lose the fight!) I love my VR headset for the immersion and fun factor it provides - but I love the 3-monitor setup for the utility/convenience it affords and can’t imagine being without it.
    I should prolly mention that I’m a Web developer, and being able to spread work out across those three monitors is absolutely the sh*ts! So there’s that too… ;-)

      You can open virtual monitors on your VR screen while in game. You can pin those screens relative to you or somewhere in the virtual environment. Streamers often pin a large chat screen to their forearm in game for example but you can pin screen anywhere in VR. Some people pin one to the ground as a guide. I'd imagine with pimax 8k rez you'd get even better results and be able to do smaller text relative to lower rez headsets.
      I agree that triple monitor desktop/app space is great but I'm not running my side screens for games (LG 48CX oled in the middle for media/gaming).

      @@elvnmagi9048 That’s interesting you bring that up. I own OVR Toolkit via Steam, and was considering dragging in some extra HUD info that I keep hidden in my Periphery, with info I can check on straights and such in iRacing.
      Like you said about Streamers makes sense too as I used that mod to pin a FPS meter to my left wrist which you’d only actually see when you rotate your wrist a certain way.
      I’m already running my 8Kx off a completely modded PC w/ direct die cooled 10900k and watercooled/modded 3090 at 520 watts and still have to make a few concessions to keep things pinned at 4K 90fps native with a separate signal to each eye. I feel like adding those might tank my performance but plan to give it a go sometime soon.

    This is actually a fair comparison, unlike other vids, comparing a CV1 to a triple. That’s like comparing 15” CRT monitor triple to a most recent VR gear, not a fair comparison. No wonder they switch to a triple.
    VR is still developing, pretty soon we will have 8k HMDs and powerful gfx cards that can run these old titles at 120 FPS. VR is the future. One of the main issues with VR is adaptation, people who are new to VR quit as soon as they feel motion sick. There has to be a guide or some kind of app that helps these new users adapt slowly to VR. We all got sick in the beginning but now love/hooked to this darn thing.

    Good video! I wanted to add that with SteamVR you can easily open another window and place it into your VR world. When I stream DiRT Rally 2.0 in VR, I open a chat window and I place it behind the driver's seat and in between races I check the chat all from within the headset. I just twist around and there is the chat window. In a game like DiRT that works, because you can't take your eyes off the road for even a second lol.
    But where VR streaming gets really cool is when you find a game where the chat window fits in the setting of the game. Vox Machinea is a good example of this. It's a mech combat game, and from within the cockpit of the mech, you can place this chat window screen, just like it's part of the dashboard of the mechs control systems. I have also read stories of people tossing a Netflix window into the cockpit of their space ships in a game like No Man Sky or Elite Dangerous and just watching something like The Office while they cruise to their next destination.

    Early in the video you talked about how immersive it was wearing a VR headset with driving gloves, shoes and a seat-belt. Then later in the video you gave the pimax headset a 7/10 for comfort because the headset is relatively heavy compared to not wearing one. While your scoring seems like it would make sense, I'd like to point out that if you were actually driving those cars in real life you'd have a full crash helmet on (and in some cases a gopro camera or similar mounted on it)... which would be much heavier and more bulky.

      Thanks Kevan! Tons of people have gone either way. For me it was no question once I got used to that FOV, even if there was practically no sound/bit less comfortable, pimax was for me, thick face foam made all the difference for me as well. I have not tried DCS personally. Though since im way more serious in racing than flying, VR for me is a tool to be a better driver. I think if you are a serious flyer VR might be better for that as well if you have the system for it. Since I'm really casual monitors was nice for a quick 15 mins or so of flying, if I was actually fighting jets or practicing in DCS and I was more serious, I think VR would also be a tool where u can reach your potential with over monitors. Good question though! Bit of a tricky answer :D basically VR if you're serious about it I think is best, at least that's my opinion!

      Same - since 99.9% of my VR time is spent via iRacing, the 8Kx works really well. I've played some regular games and while it LOOKS amazing, if you need to move super fast, the tracking isn't quite up to par with my Index for example. I think the 8Kx is amazing for things like iRacing or flying sims, etc. My guess is its probably not the best choice for a game like BeatSaber (not that ive ever played it.) However, from what ive heard, adding a 3rd Lighthouse really improves the tracking situation... I currently have two, on 8' tripods so they are up at ceiling height. I'd give the tracking a score of about ~85/100, compared with ~95/100 on my Index with my current setup.

    I know both are great ways to do SIM racing or flight. Triple displays have the best/great clarity for SIM racing, I just wish I had the room for them. VR is the total immersion of SIM racing by actually being in the car and the 360 degree view of the game surroundings. Flight SIM's are also amazing in VR.
    Either way we go, there is going to be some high price tags for 3 displays or VR headset with using a high powered PC. Oh, also forgot to mention the special controllers for racing or flight and the games themselves.
    Right now I went the VR route. I don't have the top of the line high resolution VR headset, but mine is adequate enough to enjoy the VR immersion.
    The SIM games in VR are getting so much better and really enjoy trying the different cars and tracks of the racing games.
    So either way you go, Triple screens or VR, you are going to enjoy doing SIM gaming, flight or Racing.

Close behind is the Quest 2 as best allround VR Headset. The G2 is only in front, when you use the FOV mod. Pimax is the worst headset for me, because of the distortion and unnatural lens effects. @derekbancarz4530 2 роки тому

      Appreciate that man! 8700k shouldn't really bottleneck the GPU that much at that resolution to be honest but I'd probably want to overclock and still throw in a 3080. The steam supersampling resolution is what determines how hard the game will be to run so you can always dial it back to try to get 90fps, in my opinion motion smoothing isn't quite worth it (45fps and faking a frame). I think the G2 full res steam SS was somewhere around 3150x3100 per eye so it's still a pretty heavy task. VR can take a while to dial it in as every user winds up preferring a slightly diff experience, but once it's dialed in to your likings it's amazing. Without a 3080 youll likely have to knock down the SS just a little bit (100 percent down to 90 can have a great performance increase since it's res per eye). Luckily iracing is incredibly optimized, you'd likely do 100 SS with your cpu and a 3080 with a full car grid. Hope that helps, cheers man! Appreciate the nice comment

    Great job on the comparison! Really helped me out. I tried my friend's Vive gen 1 and got motion sick after ~5 minutes. A lot of people have been saying you just gotta keep using it and it'll get better/normal after awhile. Wondering if you had a similar experience?

      Thanks man! Yes I got it pretty bad. Id play about 2 mins then have to lay on the couch for 45 mins and recover LOL. Took about 4-5 days for me to start driving fast. Id say after a week I was able to do barrel rolls in fighter jets and go crazy on the track. No g-force took a while for my brain to comprehend. I've seen some just go crazy in it the first time, some people are built different lol. Pushing through and getting my body to learn it was well worth it though, VR is a blast! Also in my experience better clarity in the headset and 90hz + makes a big difference with motion. Cheers!

    Are you sure it's 6.5/10 in graphics with Pimax 8KX? That's like a D grade in school. I don't think I see D graphics in my Pimax 8KX. I was able to get it to run at native 4K super sharp w/ RTX 3090. So your comment about VR graphics should be relative to what graphics card a person is running on. If you run Pimax 8KX w/ a FOV of 120 (instead of 150) degree, the graphics jump to 4K instead of looking at 1080p....that's how big a jump it is...it is super sharp and clear to me....as if i am in that environment. Obviously, nothing can beat triple...but I wouldn't give Pimax 8KX a 6.5 lol. I would say 8/10 for me in Automobilista 2.

    • @derekbancarz4530
      @derekbancarz4530 2 роки тому

      I would say really depends on what you're going to be playing. I would think you would need a bit more power to use the full resolution/FOV on simulation style games. I use large FOV on the 8kx most of the time and the 3090 is sweating 😅though we don't know what the 100% render resolution is yet so hard to say!

      @@derekbancarz4530 wow. But 3090 desktop could be about 2.5-3 times more powerful that 3070ti laptop... So I guess no simulators for me.
      But at the same time Crystal will have 140fov max and I could reduce the quality down to high or mid... So maybe at least Alyx is playable.

    I really don't get why the Pimax isn't a full face racing helmet. Let's face it, the Pimax is for sim racers and flight simulator pilots and both drivers and pilots wear helmets in real life so it would add to the immersion as well as being far more comfortable to wear for long periods of time.

    • @derekbancarz4530
      @derekbancarz4530 2 роки тому

      Tbh I think I agree with this, or at least have an add on you can attach that has better weight distribution and can act as a full helmet. Pimax is definitely best for simulations, having it as a full blown helmet would be pretty sweet (or at least if could be optional)

    They looks really good. What kind of screens are these?

  • @elvnmagi9048
    @elvnmagi9048 3 роки тому

    What resolution are the triples? You kept saying you'd get higher graphics out of the triple monitors on things like MS flight sim. The pimax 8k is dual 4k resolution (shown as a single screen). Some people are setting up triple 4k LG 48" OLEDs for example, so for the 4k era, the headest would potentially have 1/3 less rez to render (at native rez). That could result in being able to set graphics settings higher and/or getting higher frame rates which not only reduces sample and hold blur but also increases motion definition/articulation.
    MS flight sim is notorious for having frame rate sinkholes due to the extreme view distances and high graphics detail. Of course, as you noted in your video, VR is 3D, essentially holographic 3D in effect, where desktop screens or "pancake" screens are 2D... so it depends how you measure improved visuals/aesthetics...
    There are many factors: graphics complexity/detail/AA/FX/"eye candy" settings, frame-rates(motion clarity/blur reduction, motion-definition/motion~pathing detail/smoothness), raw resolution, 2D vs "holographic" 3D depth of everything on screen... also in some cases, HDR with a truly capable HDR display and well implemented HDR game.

Anyways, if you can handle vr more then 30 minutes without taking bunch of ginger pills like me, Vr. If you like sharp graphics and can't stay more then 30 min in it then tripel. Oh and my friends thought vr is fun until they got sick. Thay told me never again lol. So it's not that fun for them tbh. I'll stick with triples until vr gets as sharp as 1440p monitor.

      Nope! :( Definitely takes some tweaking to get it right, to be honest I think we're quite a far way off from being able to do that. If I did ultra with a full car grid on rfactor2 or assetto Corsa my fps would probably be closer to 15-25 on a 3090. That's a good bonus from triple screens you get to see the full potential/detail of how the game can look, but the 3d effect of VR is just too good sometimes :p

    Only reason I'm considering to pass to triple after 3 years of racing in vr is comfort. But triple required so much space, so much display port available 😅(I also use my pc for other games on my 34 inches 21 9 monitor). So I'm also considering to buy a Samsung G9 . Sure, less immersion but more easy. Btw In on a I9 10900k and 3080Ti. My headset is a Samsung Odyssey+ now. I've tried a G2 last week but returned it for his small fov, can't race properly and very disappointed.

They're super nice to just hop in and practice laps, takes some getting used to though. I say typically VR is a better EXPERIENCE but triples is a better GAMING experience. I'd personally rather run triples than most headsets, the 8kx though once dialed in I enjoy more, but for long practice session I use screens. well yea, VR is exactly like glasses. glasses are RIGHT IN FRONT OF YOUR EYES, yet you are not uncomfortable with them, compared to a monitor being in front of your eyes. You LOOK THROUGH VR just like you LOOK THROUGH glasses. Because if you think about it, VR and glasses are both right in front of your eyes, and emit light to your eyes the same way.
