Chainsaw Man is stupid simple: Denji comes into the story as a dog. He's called a dog. His heart is a dog. Then, he falls in love with a dog owner. Later, he saves a cat and befriends its owner. Going along, he learns that he's actually a human. He meets a lot of people and obstacles that teach him what it means to be a human, until he becomes one. As he's no longer a dog, he betrays his owner despite even his love for her. Chainsaw Man (Part 1) is about being human.
I've never really watched anime or read manga before. I watched two of the most popular anime's, AoT and Death note. Nothing else. I decided to watch through CSM and was hooked and went to read the manga. I binged through it and loved every second of it. I truly loved it. I can't describe how the characters and the themes throughout it stuck out to me, it has left me thinking of it for days now. I've never felt so strongly towards a series before and everything about it is phenomenal.
Imo the only flaw chainsaw man has are the downtimes between events. Like 2-3 chapters that aren’t relevant for the story. Just a few relaxed scenes like in the 12th ED from the anime. The anime does this beautifully by including some slow atmospheric scenes which the manga sadly didn’t offer. It’s still the best manga I’ve ever read tho.
This is one of the coolest summaries I've watched on the series, especially for the characters. The fact that Denji really doesn't have a motive beyond himself, makes his dynamic with Makima so much more interesting. By the end of part one it really shows off how much he changed throughout the events. Honestly I completely agree with you it's one of my favorites too, and you've done an amazing job putting it together in this video.
i got into it in september of 2022 and i absolutely loved it. it really resonated with me as someone who has a big heart for dogs and the analogy of how dogs will behave their masters like denji will obey makima was neat.
I kinda just presumed he did not cry for Himeno, because he barely knew her or even Power and Aki by that point. I mean isn't that just normal? He knew Himeno for a couple of days and pretty much everything she's done with him has been an exchange of sorts or just straight up using him. So I was always perplexed. I was like "Is he supposed to cry for her? Why?" Even the being friends thing I saw as her just trying to get a chance to have Aki date her, which she explicitly stated prior. So I'm like "Am I supposed to like this person? Should I feel like it's weird for Denji not to care for them?". Maybe getting her backstory was supposed to move my heart more than it did, but I pretty much only cared when it happened in the anime. The slower weighty tone helped quite a bit.
Pretty sure that painting in Makima's apartment is from Paradise Lost, not Dante's inferno. But no worries, it's easy to get them mixed up I think the picture in Makima's office in the anime is from Dante's inferno, though, or at least some part of the Divine comedy Whatever the case, really cool video! Chainsaw man is one of my favorite mangas of all time and it's always great to revisit it through The eyes of somebody who enjoys it as much as I do : )
Wow, I was wondering why it seems like I'm the only one who can't get into Chainsaw Man. I think Neil Gaiman's work is too pretentious, I straight up hate Clive Barker's stuff, and I have no idea who David Firth is.
“Dear Google: How can I possibly get totally engaged with a content I haven’t consumed just by the clips, analysis and reviews?” YT algorithm: “Here is Chainsaw Man…. Now say woof”. Nice video ;))
I love chainsaw man.. no homo, in a time where I actually thought nothing could get better than DBZ or Super as i only read them out of honest interest because I have been a DBZ fan since birth, I thought manga in general was not interesting, the only couple exceptions I read and enjoy and interest me were Baki and Kengan Ashura/Omega and One Punch Man, so I initially thought Chainsaw Man was yet another overrated generic anime like Hero Academia... I got lots of recomendations of memes and Bs until.. one day out of nowhere and that was exactly 1 month ago.. I gave it a try, the reason? Pochita, I saw pochita everywhere, even irl I could see Pochita plushies being sold everywhere in my city, no joke, the rest is story, I finally watched it and man I was hooked on the whole franchise, by now I am a huge fan and while Pochita is still my number one, I gotta say Denji is an absolute great character.
Chainsaw man is good but over rated. The visuals are stunning. The story is kinda slow.. Also , I'm not crazy about the main character and his perverted ways over a simple thing like touching breasts .it's good but not great. There were other anime who quietly snuck out into the 2023 anime landscape and were better in my opinion. To name a few , there's Hells Paradise,, Summer Rendering. Not to mention the new seasons of Demon Slayer,, Dr Stone,, and the final season of Attack on Titan.. In my opinion the number 1 new anime of 2023 is HEAVENLY DELUSION. It's a cross between Made in Abyss and the Promise Neverland.. So yeah. In my opinion Chainsaw man is behing all of these that I mentioned. It's Over rated.
I really don't like the video and in a way I can't just close the tab and move on. Can't quite put my finger on it. Maybe the way you drone on has neurotic energy to it, and not in a quirky autistic way, but in a lame way. Sorry for the comment, dude.
Hey if u guys didn’t know I have a twitter I forgot to plug it in the video lol: twitter.com/EmilyorSometh
There’s also the symbolism with doors opening to something terrible happening

Tatsuki Fujimoto is a goddamn genius and I hope he will continue to make more stories, whether it be manga, anime or movies. Great video essay.

I like how a damn cat survives longer then 90% of the main characters 💀

Ohhh tyty
Fujimoto is Neil Gaiman, Clive Barker, and David Firth combined.

in terms of artistic skills, he's John Romita Jr, Sal Buscema and Ryan Ottley combined

Chainsaw Man’s OST is so underrated
Great vid, i went to bed wanting to go to sleep reading chainsaw man at about chapter 60. Fucking finished part 1 that night it was so gripping

Great video really loved it, make another one on part 2. But be careful Shueisha is very strict about copyright when using manga panels in videos
I probably will when it’s finished but in the meantime I am cooking with some other videos also thanks for the heads up!!!
This was actually a really good video, I hope you end up getting more views 👍
Dogs are a symbol. For example, pochita means small dog.
Bro, thinking about aki and listening to this sad ass ost. Fuck it hollows me out. So sad dude. Fuck fujimoto
👍
