    My prime ddr days are long past. I played the game very religiously during the extreme/supernova time frame but due to adult responsibilities I simply don't have time to play the game as much as what I once did. I applaud the video game series for playing a huge positive impact in my life and when I find free time I still play the home console versions since ddr machines are very hard to find in my area. I think the biggest thing I will always be thankful for ddr is that it introduced me to my favorite genre of music which is trance music, and I would of never got into trance music if it wasn't for dj taka and tracks such as votum stellarum and pandora. Even to this day dj taka is still one of my favorite trance artists of all time.

    A local arcade in my town actually featured a DDR Kids cabinet. Funnily enough, it's one of the pictures you used in the video lol

    How funny that this was uploaded on my birthday! Great work on this video, I actually got linked to this from a fan that said my content was shown in this video, and I can see a few instances where it happens...
    -I am the only player that has lineouts of DDR SuperNOVA2 arcade machines in high quality. The mod menu shown in the video is actually from my True Love PFC video :P
    -The DDR Extreme Mod screen was taken from my lineout which I can tell from the poor conversion process with shadows streaking on screen. Bonus info: The mods x0.5, Brake and Wave are Challenge Mode only modifiers and are not actually available in the mod menu unless you hack the game.
    There a few places where you made mistakes, however you were surprisingly accurate with the knowledge you picked up on the series. DDR's history is vast and there have been a lot of changes implemented and removed! I will point out one major thing you forgot to mention though: Dancing Stage Featuring Dreams Come True. It is one of my favorite DDR games and its such a shame it got overlooked instead of Dancing Stage Featuring True Kiss Destination. XD
    Thanks again for taking the time to make this! I really enjoyed it! Also don't forget Round 1 will be getting DDR Ace at all locations as well this Summer! See you in the arcades!

    The reason DDR Extreme is so easy to find in North America is it was heavily bootlegged. There are only a handful of legit Extreme kits in NA, and they are in private collections.
    Additionally, Dancing Stage Fusion was the first time we saw a change to the hardware used in a DDR machine. 1st through Extreme all ran on System 573 hardware. Dancing Stage Fusion ran on a Konami Python unit(which was essentially a PlayStation 2 attached to an I/O board). This was the ONLY DDR release to run on Python.
    DDR SuperNOVA and SuperNOVA2 ran on the Python2 hardware. Python 2 was an actual Japanese PS2 attached to an I/O board. If you open a Python2 unit there is an untouched PS2 staring back at you.
    DDR X and onward runs on the BemaniPC hardware. The DDR X machines in America were NOT manufactured by Konami and this is why the quality was lower. The DDR X Japanese cabinets were just as high quality as the older cabinets you are used to.

    • @EuroMIX2
      @EuroMIX2 7 років тому +3

      My understanding is, that they were basically forced to move away from using the PS2 hardware machines because an EU ruling change meant that the mercury content was considered to high for distribution, which is why I don't think Europe got SuperNOVA2 AC (though we might have been screwed over regardless), and why they changed to the BemaniPC hardware.
      Also the quality difference of the various machines was stark when I visited Brighton and the SuperNOVA machine I tried was a pain to play on, but the nearby EuroMIX still played well, and a EuroMIX2 with a screen replacement also worked great too.

    The fact that the newer DDR games are connected to the internet also means any songs can be removed at any time, instead of having to wait for each new release to make changes to the old songlist, you can see what song gets removed in the middle of the lifespan of that release.
    also DDR 2014 didnt lose too many songs, though MAX, SN and X did.

    A fun retrospective.
    Currently I’m playing one A20 Plus, the second-to-most recent version as of commenting, at a local arcade with what I presume to be a converted 2013 cabinet.

      It was very well known on the DDR forums way back in Max 2's days. Jokes were made at the song's expense, even if the official title is hardly any better (Boy oh Boy mix). It's kinda forgotten now as it wasn't a popular Captain Jack song. People still remember Captain Jack (the song), In the Navy (due to its Maniac/Heavy/Expert chart), and Dream a Dream more than Little Boy.

    Ah DDR, That one game I never understood why my sister loved these games as I was younger And fewer songs had my interest. But after watching I decided to hook my old ps2 up and try to see IF I could find my dance mats, Only found one of them which is good enough for me. And played good ol DDR Max. Played a few songs, And Enjoyed it. I enjoyed max due to the fact that some of the songs keep getting in my head, And Oddly enough, I have a nostalgia Feeling for the game. My favorite songs being from that game, I like to move it, Sandstorm, 22 Dunkslake, Insertion, AM-3P, and ECSTASY. I can recall getting my behind kicked by my sister at the times where she never let me learn the controls or that. She always just moved on to the song list. -.- I myself have only owned two versions on PS2 and gamecube. Those versions being DDR MAX, And DDR Mario Dance Mix [[Which was my first Gamecube game that I owned.]]
    The Mario DDR is a different Story. I did not really like it as much, But it was fun at least to try out, Even had a interesting Story...

    11:44 it's my favorite mod as well
    30:30 La Senorita Virtual was first featured in 3rd Mix Plus

    Luckily, a "Round 1" arcade opened nearby to me which does have a DDR A machine. Pretty surreal to see it when the only other machine active locally is DDR Extreme.
    Never thought I'd see the day where a new DDR machine would be released in California.

      +Spearra Seems more likely to open in California than anywhere else in the US. So far I've only heard of Round 1 and Dave & Buster's with the machines.

    I have such fond memories playing DDR Max 1 & 2. It's too bad I haven't been able to find a good 1" foam dance pad for PS3. I haven't been able to play since I upgraded my system years ago.

    but now I sure do love Dance Dance Revolution since it was my early middle or late 2000s nostalgia. 😎

    12th notes weren't part of DDR until like 2013, you said it was on 2nd mix at 7:57. They used 32nd notes to simulate 12ths I believe.

    • @MarzGurl
      @MarzGurl  8 років тому

      +Precision DancePads Get Up 'N Move is an example of a song in 2nd Mix with 12th notes, and they've been used ever since. Even if what they're technically doing is "simulating" 12ths, that doesn't mean the 12ths aren't there. They've put them in 12th note locations musically speaking. They're there.

    • @hellrazor35
      @hellrazor35 8 років тому

      I had wished they were true 12ths for so many years, I honestly can't believe they actually implemented 12ths/24ths, incredible piece of history you captured, so many MANY things I had never known.

    People here in the Philippines called it "Dance Revo" or pronounced by some as "Dance Rebo" :D
    Some called it "Ang video game ng Bayan" Roughly translated (more or less) as "the arcade game of country" ^_^
    A Noon Time show also in the Philippines called EAT BULAGA once had a segment where DDR was a daily contest.
