Never read Preacher before but I've been thinking about getting the absolutes, gonna pull the trigger cause of this review. And the production quality improves everytime I come to watch one of your videos. Good job bro
6 years later and people still search and buying them...like me :) Im new to comics and I love the TV series of The Boys and started reading some Garth Ennis stuff and decided to go crazy and buy his complete Absolute Preacher edition. I have read into it online and loved it. Was hard to get them all. Vol. 1 came from Germany, Vol. 2 from the Netherlands and Vol. 3 from the US. They came in perfect condition. All of them had the DC logo on it btw but you have to watch out for the publisher before dropping order or you end up with mixed up logos (Vertigo/DC) on the shelf. Nice review and a perfect hype for me to just get start reading it today. Greetings from Cologne, Germany.
Preacher, along with Sandman, Fables, and Planetary are my favorite (Non Moore written) comics. Preacher is probably the comic I've re-read the most. I'm loving the TV series, including the differences. Good review, as always.
i'm reading the first volume right now and would've never guessed it'd be as incredible as it is. i'm so glad you helped me stumble upon this comic series! luckily i have 2 and 3 for when i'm finished with the first volume. After reading a deathstroke trade paper back recently, going over to garth ennis is a night and day difference as far as story telling goes. Can't thank you enough Gem!
Excellent review Gem. Instock definitely owes you some marketing royalties. Most of us never heard of them until you made us aware of them. Most peeps like me would think of Amazon first or some shit like that. Also props on improving your editing and added art work as you talk now. Nice!
Gem Mint Collectibles LOL! Guarantee you’ve promoted a lot of business for them. Be like look muvafukaz, I’ve plugged y’all in like 67 UA-cam videos, what’s good with a check”?
I totally agree with this being 2nd after Sandman. I rediscovered my love for comics at 30, a 15 year break. But Sandman and Preacher reawakened my love for this genre. I MUST buy the absolute versions.
Great review. Preacher is one of the best comic series of all time. I was thinking about eventually getting the absolute editions, but never pulled the trigger. They look so dope though that I might have to finally get them.
I watched the first season when it came out but I didn’t really continue watching it. After seeing this video, I think I might like to read a TPB and see how I like it. Great video Gem 💎
I would say preachers one of the first times where I was introduced to Garth Ennis. Basically his style storytelling because it does have times of pure blown moments of pure crazy dirty things going on in this book but somehow it in message that we're all together to tell this very unique story. This has to be my favorite work of vertigo and Garth Ennis ever did. When I first ever read it I was like 19. And I got introduced with the first issue with those trade paperbacks Vertigo did the kind of introduce the series first issues in that trade paperback I forgot what it was called I still have it I got to find it. They had the first issue of invisible had the first issue of I think fables in it the kind of get you introduced E-Series to kind of see if you have any interest in it I think the one that caught my eye was preacher because the way it was being handled in the store I said well let me pick up the first trade of the series and see what this is all about. I liked how Garth Ennis kind of talk about religion in a way that really made a whole lot of sense even though he was being at times a little funny and really making fun of it are you guys able to tackle it in such a way that it made you really think about it like the bad side of religion and how it's handled how the practices and really make you think about things. I'll never forget when Jesse's grandma was explaining about how God works and then Jessie went full-on after what she said to him saying you know he was more scared of like someone just watching him the entire time with what he was doing and she just completed just punched him in the face. That freaked me out and I thought that was really great on how Garth just set that up because the way he handled it the way I was reading it I was like yeah and wait Jessie was completely saying his views about it and I'm like yeah I would feel that way too I don't want someone be watching me the entire time when I'm doing every single moment of the day that's kind of scary it's like kind of stalkerish to an extent this is how I was interpreting what I was reading. This is definitely a great series for people that are trying to be more open-minded about religion. That you try to read it you don't really be same blasphemy you're like okay I want to see what the story is entails and really be open mind on the possibilities Woody presents so I give this serious like one of those this is a perfect series for me it's like a 10 out of 10 I mean there are some things in the series that really going to disturb some people that are not that warming up to the series the present but for me it's a 10 out of 10. And it's crazy that he created those thick Omnibus like that like Bible that that blows my mind
Preacher is great, I read it as it was coming out. But I would put Ennis' Hitman a little bit higher. Preacher gets more attention because of the "shocking" subject matter, but I think Hitman is the better story.
Just finished reading the Absolute Edition, had already read it on an ipad. It is the second most expensive comic edition i have in my collection, and as i was reaching the end, i thought i should sell it. Dont get me wrong, i loved it but i paid something like 200€ to buy it, so it crossed my mind to sell it and get even. But when i finished the last chapter with the letters, and the Killing of God, i said to my self that this comic has DEFINATELY a position to my library, cause many people will say it is unholy, blasphemous, full of dirt and filth, a sick drug addict vampire, and people killing one another for no reason, but the only thing i could think is that i read the best love story in the history of comics! Loved you review by the way, greetings from Greece!
A bit late to the party, great review man..Your review on the Absolute books has made me return into comic books again, not sure that's a good thing tbh. Anyway just ordered Vol 1. Looking forward to it arriving
Im new to this wonderful hobby pretty insane IST is literally half off what is the catch? i dont care having to wait one to two months for orders but still how is this possible?
Excellent review brother , read Preacher in Graphic novel format and loved it , fucking Cassidy is the shit , got into it as well as Punisher Max .... after seeing those Absolutes might need to upgrade as they are beautiful books man .... Peace
These are my favourite books i own they are gorgeous and all three of them together is brilliant, this is one of my favourite series. Have you read scalped by jason aaron dont know if I want to get into that yet.
oh cool have you got any recommendations on either omnibuses or absolutes which are good reads? apart from getting avengers hickman vol 2 and punisher max vol 2 i have no other books to get this year.
Mr. Gem so IST is a good place to open omnibus and absolute books? And what do you think my first order should be Doom Patrol Grant Morrison The New frontier Or Kamandi
I’m literally just now getting into preacher and watching the show and very soon gonna start gettin the comics, but in all honesty I’m very curious on how would you rate the overall story of the comics out of 10?
1. the production and editing on this video is dope 2. excellent review of story and book production 3. on a side note, whats up with the tv show. anyone watching that jawn?
Very good review, GM. I know a little bit more now of the series flow and plotting. I still can't quite get myself to the point of buying it yet, though, mainly because of what you brought up with one of your fb followers. I know Luis brought it up a few years back too regarding the religious overtones may leave some in the cold (this was his all-time favorite series). I'm not a prude by any means as I have other Ennis-written books (just got the Punisher-Max Omni). The extreme R-rated material is fine with me as I have many books in those genres. I just don't care for stories that present God as such a weakling and disconnected. I know Ennis is an atheist (which is fine with me) but if he injects his beliefs (yes, even atheism is a belief system) into a story, it's like inserting one's politics into a story where you rather they wouldn't go there. Having said that, all the other sub-plots and various other side stories and bizarre happenings do sound interesting and something I would probably read (especially in these awesome looking editions) if it wasn't for the over-arching theme. I certainly don't condemn anyone who enjoys this series though. A friend of mine saw my Punisher Max Omni when I got it in the mail and I felt I was being a little judged because of the violence. So I certainly wouldn't judge anyone for liking something that may not be my cup of tea. Keep the faith, bro.
Jeffrey Roberts I feel you. It definitely walks a fine line. But when I read it, I know it’s just a story and not like I’m adopting that belief or what the writer believes.
Yeah, that's a good point. I guess it's no different than all the music I listen to and enjoy even though I may not go along with a particular artist's politics. Crap, now I'm leaning again to wanting to check this out! lol
1. Arseface always has subtitles. Right from the first issue he's in. 2. The Saint Of Killers family aren't murdered. They die of illness. 3. Its Fabry. Fab-ry.
Never read Preacher before but I've been thinking about getting the absolutes, gonna pull the trigger cause of this review. And the production quality improves everytime I come to watch one of your videos. Good job bro
tyronekane1 appreciate that. Trying to get better and better. You’re gonna love preacher.

Gem Mint Collectibles That’s what’s up! Thinking of the Geminites! 👍🏽
The Absolute Sandman volumes are on par with these. It’s probably my favourite format despite its expensiveness.
agree
Indeed😊
Just got volume 1 in the mail today and freaking love it!!! Thanks for the reviews my dude!!!

I watched the first season when it came out but I didn’t really continue watching it. After seeing this video, I think I might like to read a TPB and see how I like it. Great video Gem 💎
The show definitely doesn't do the comic justice, worth the read for sure
I've just finished book one. Love it.

seems like we have the same taste in books...what you mentioned about religion, i really enjoyed as well.

Cassidy was Irish, but awesome review on the absolute editions..
I would get these if they were around £50 but I think £74 is pushing it for just one book. Il keep looking around on Ebay though
