Thank you!! I was offered this but I declined as my dog had a severe reaction to a common pain med called Deramaxx. He became paralyzed after about a week on the pills. My vet thought I was crazy. He improved once off the pills. I read that Librella had similar side effects as Deramaxx, but it takes 30 days to get it out of their system rather than 24 hours for a pill. I read most dogs who have a reaction, don't survive the 30 days. We truly need to research everything.

@ I’m so sorry, it was definitely one of the most difficult things we’ve experienced. But you know what, this situation has made me a better dog mom. I feed my dogs better because of what I learned during this time. We’ve adopted two dogs from a rescue and I’ve started fostering in memory of our sweet girl. Find something to honor your precious pup, something that brings you joy, maybe help educate others so they don’t have to go through what you’ve endured simply because you did not know. Just a thought and a couple suggestions as to what helped us. ♥️

My senior Lab was on Librela for about 7 months for arthritis & after suffering a broken scapula. It worked great, until..it didn't. He developed sudden hind end weakness in alternate legs, e.g. while walking they just give out. It was shocking and horrifying! I stopped Librela immediately and prayed he would recover, beating myself up for having tried it.
Thankfully, he's among the lucky pups who recovered from side effects. I wouldn't try it if I was on the fence about using this med...
Edited to add that the vet didn't make any claims that there aren't side effects, i read the insert and was nervous but went with anecdotal good results from other pet parents.

My boy was a little limp... intermittantly... but happy, eating, playing and walking. The vet said "he's a little arthritic, I'll give him something for that". I had no idea what would happen next. It was absolutely horrific... the SAE's started the same day they injected him. My boy suffered and it was awful... his life ended on day 7. He had horrific seizures... he was staring.. dazed... on day 7 his right hind leg just spontaneously broke. The pitiful screams from my little lad will haunt me forever. I will never trust a vet ever again. Zoetis are literally getting away with murder.... and the FDA know it and don't care 💔😭🌈🕊. One injection = dead by day 7. R.I.P my little Stanley

My dog was given a shot of Librela in early January. She had a history pf seizures but had not had one in over 7 months. A week after the shot she had 5 in 1 day. After that they continued every 3-4 weeks. I wrote to the company and they didn't seem to care. Apparently, this med crosses the brain barrier 7 days after injection. Sadly, I had her put down in May as the seizures got worse. She was having grand mal and focal. It was hell. Vet was not aware that it can trigger seizures, She was only 9 and my best friend. Wish I never got her that shot!

That sounds a lot like there's pressure on the spinal cord around the lumber spine particularly L2-L4 regions. Slipped discs from IVDD or DJD can cause this, especially if not given time to heal and the jelly calcifies, and or growths of boney bits on the spine itself.

@@RavingKats days later, we've discovered through worsening symptoms, acutely, that librela was the culprit. she actually had 4 injections not 7, my bad. we'll never give her anymore. fast forward now she can do the stairs but is still a little wobbly. her incontinence is gone. she can bark again and appetite better. her head remains tilted, though. i hope we dodged the bullet

My dog (Shih Tzu/Jack russell mix) ended up with IMHA and was at Michigan STate for a week. He needed 3 transfusions and is still recovering. He had 4 injections of LIbrela prior to getting IMHA. The last was in March 2024 and the IMHA caused collapse in May 2024. I have reported this to Zoetis, and he seems to be recovering on a protocol of prednisone and clopidogrel. Thanks for this video . As an aside the LIbrela helped with a limp he had.

I did Librela for my 11 years old staffordshire terrier. Molly was diagnosed with lung cancer a couple of months prior, and suffered from terrible arthritis most of her life. Librela gave her additional 6 month, where she was able to walk and move so much easier than before the shot. We ultimately let her go this past July, when her breathing got much worse, and she again had troubles getting up. But I cherish these extra 6 months.
Right now another of my dogs is on Librela. It seems to help some, but with all the possible side effects I am not sure that I want to continue.

@@DrJudyMorganthank you for this video and information, my husband and I cried watching this. Today I am going to my vet clinic to talk to my primary veterinarian. She was on maternity leave on the day my dog was given the librela injection so I don’t fault her at all. But I want her opinion on it and I plan to forward this video to her as well so that hopefully she will share it with the rest of the clinic and never recommend this drug to anyone without again. In one less than 3 weeks we watched our precious 4 pound dog turn into a walking skeleton that stayed up all night crying, walking into walls, getting stuck in random places, falling and not able to stand back up, eliminating in his bed while he slept, developed a sudden onset stage 4 heart murmur, and eventually a massive seizure that he did not recover from. I have submitted a report myself to the FDA and fully intend on reporting to Zoetis as well. Today I am going to obtain a copy of his medical records.

Thank you for this information. This past year I had 2 different animal chiros recommend this drug for my dog. I looked it up & researched it for myself and said nope. The fact they pushed "no side effects" as a selling point should be an automatic red flag. Every drug, for humans or animals, has side effects. As a side note, it'd be nice if the FDA did their job for once.

You know, I've been thinking...the FDA said they couldn't find anything "conclusively dangerous" in the pet food they tested. But if they're calling things like THIS not dangerous... 😢
Some people say you were making up the whole thing about the dog food being dangerous. But looking at what I DO know, my own dog definitely got sick from her food around that time, I did see some dog food severely discounted (like never make a profit discounted,) the FDA took way too long to investigate (what if it was a chemical that degrades over time?) and wouldn't talk to us, thousands of people reported major issues after new cans or bags before you said anything at all, Purina claimed to be safe without showing us ANY test results...the whole thing just...i would not be surprised if people were paid off to say it was safe. I also know that your advice has been insanely helpful for not only my dogs' health, but also my own that I've been severely struggling with. And even if all that happened was that people started reporting more and there was nothing "wrong" with the food...well, THAT is even scarier, because it means this happens all the time. 😢 I hope you'll make a follow-up video. But I understand if you don't...people have GOT to be PO'd that you called it out.

My lhasa apso girl had hind leg lameness within hours of a Librela injection. I paid for a 4 weeks course for her arthritic shoulder. I cancelled the last 3!
I am praying it wears off over the next few weeks. It's heartbreaking to watch her struggling around and the vet says she's probably going to die soon. She's 12 and that's not old for a lhasa.
I have been supplementing her with omegas, Ca and Mg, turmeric etc.

My dog got 2 shots and after I did research, which i should have done beforehand, I canceled her 3rd shot. Vets push these things and either don't do their own research beforehand or know exactly how bad these things are and don't care because they get money foe the shots and probably from big pharma.
Big pharma doesn't care about us nor our pets. ALWAYS be your.own advocate and your pets advocate

I am absolutely mortified, we are in Ontario Canada, our 15 yr old labradoodle has osteoarthritis and in pain, she’s on triacta and CBD oil and our vet just told us about liberal with no side effects and if it doesn’t work after the 2nd injection she suggests ending her life, so she JUST had her first and LAST injection this past Friday, 2 days ago and now I see this! I will be emailing her tomorrow morning and now I need to know if there is anything else we can possibly do for our girl as she’s otherwise completely healthy, her bloodwork was perfect as was a stomach X-ray. I’m lost and don’t know what to do next

Wow, I am listening to this and reading all of the comments and will have to re-think giving Librela shots to my dog. She is a healthy 12 year old with hip issues. The Librela has given her much more freedom of movement and therefore increased her ability to exercise and loose weight. So far, there have been absolutely no side effects and she has been taking the shots for 8 months now. Before Librela she received Cartrophen shots that truly did not make a noticeable difference for her, but likely increased her synovial fluid. My intention is for her to be pain free, so I moved forward with Librela, not without hesitation, but I have been watching closely! I think I might just make the Golden Paste remedy, resort to Homeopathy and take her off Librela. Thanks for the insight with this!

It time we all say no to Librela injection to the vets sadly my old girl Molly who was 13 year old was put to sleep in March just this year because of the Librela injection , the vet had said it was safe which I had believed in my vet and I wish I never did we did a blood test before my Molly started the Librela injection and both her kidney and her liver was perfect when we did the first blood test , but all a sudden when she started the Librela injection she started to Seizures more and wet her self and could not get up all her self and the Librela injection had caused her to get Liver and Kidney failure .

My baby boy would have been 15 years old next month. He had OA and a pre-existing neuro issue. In September our vet was on maternity leave and the other vet who works at the same clinic recommended Librela as it had "no known side effects" and was great for OA. I trusted her being a medical professional. We had been going to this veterinary clinic for years and his prior conditions were well known and charted. I expected her to have reviewed his chart. He had one injection of it. The 3 weeks that followed that were pure hell. His OA symptoms seemed worse than ever, he developed a sudden onset stage 4 heart murmur, he was awake crying all night long, walking into walls, getting stuck in random places, eliminating in his bed and sleeping in it, fall down and couldn't get himself back up and finally approximately 3 weeks after that injection he had a grand mall seizure and went into rapid organ failure. We had to let him go. I didn't know then about all of the complications of this drug. I didn't even at the time think to request a necropsy or post death bloodwork and now it's too late. His prior bloodwork from his previous visit showed him as a perfectly healthy dog, his heart and lungs were also perfectly healthy prior to this injection. I hope that this message gets spread far and wide, and I hope that no one else has to experience what we did.

Medication which can be incredibly dangerous. Everyone should be made aware of the risks of librela to make an informed decision.

    •  4 місяці тому +2

I personally decided as a result of my 2 dogs experiences with librela to boycott all and any Zoetis products. My vet has been informed that they are not allowed to prescribe my two surviving dogs any medication not being at least 10 years on the market.
I will not give my dogs any new to them medication before studying the studies on those meds, including the pre-trial and the reported side effects from both Europe and Canada. Zoetis taught us not to believe anything from pharma companies and being wary even of our vets.
I am personally in the process of reviewing all medication currently prescribed to my dogs.

One more note: I do think it would be nice to include some recipes that dog/cat guardians can make yourself for arthritis in dogs and cats, rather than buying products and/or promoting products for natural pet companies. We are all vulnerable to buy and do everything possible for our furry beloveds, and homemade recipes can be easy to make and less expensive.

Hi there, I am curious to know your thoughts on whether it can bring on A-typical Addison's disease? I have a 14 year old border collie who has been having the Australian version of the monthly injection and after a routine blood test we discovered some abnormalities. I should mention that I an a vet nurse and she has been getting a routine CP2 and Urinalysis since the age of 7 years old. We did alot of tests and an abdominal ultrasound which supported a diagnosis of A-typical Addison's disease. She is on prednisolone, which I wasn't excited about because I had been going in a more holistic way for my dogs in the last year but she is doing well. I can't shake the feeling that the injection has had something to do with her developing this disease. I have had another instance when she was between the ages of 7 and 8 years of age where another of this companies drugs for allergies, I feel put her in early renal failure. When I took her off of that medication she eventually got better. I would love to know if you have heard of any other cases of this happening. She is not on this injection anymore for her arthritis.

UK you don't get a leaflet unless you buy from a pharmacy with a prescription with librela the vet just injected my girl. She kept all the packaging. I asked loads of times if was safe sie effects. She had a nerve issue I lost her 3 days after the second injection to which my vets insisted was no related. She did pass easily she suffered. Badly. I like my vets they're lovely but I do not believe they are aware. I put my trust whole heartedly into my vets because I don't have a choice and my vets do seem lovely and I'm not blaming them. But I blame zoetis for killing my girl. Their push to vets and vague information. But vets do need to say hold on we need more before giving this to our patients. And vets need to be made aware and so do patients parents/owners. My dogs are not test subjects. I'd do anything to have my little girl back. She was only 9 years old 7 months 4 days old and44 minutes. I have her mum and brothers, she was part bottle fed and fed by mum as mum needed help. My dogs are my life. It been 320 days 1 hour 22minutes since we lost her. I do think blood should be the minamal mandatory test before giving librela so willingly but scans too. It is only for arthritis and can heighten other conditions which is what I've recently learned from a Canadian vet in a group. Yet it still isn't so widely know. And still pushed as an wonder drug. I'm also to blame because I didnt do enough research. I tried but seeing so little I should of said no to it. But I blame zoetis mostly they need to be stopped and even shut down for it. That is not care but greed.

Oh man, I just started my German Shepard on this, I have given two shots to him (I have to do it he won't let anyone touch him but me) so here we go...educate me Dr Judy, you are the best. Now what do I do for him? If I don't find a help method, I will probably have to help him crossover in about six months. 😕

Oh crap, oh crap, oh crap, I won't give it anymore, I was of course told it was the miracle and my research on the internet says the same miracle, and NO SIDE EFFECTS, careful folks don't believe the information on the internet! The first shot was helpful, the second not so much and I was considering stopping this drug anyway.

@@rickylu7200watch Dr. Judy's videos specifically for issues that your dog is suffering. Maybe you will find some alternative options to help your boy, especially nutritional. The more natural food you can feed, the better.
You may be able to have a video consult with a holistic veterinarian as well, please don't give up hope. Sending prayers 🙏❤️🐾🙏

do NOT give this medication to your dog! I took my dog to vet asking for joint supplements. He is 13 and was limping here and there, nothing major. I also told Vet that my dog dislikes pills. So vet suggested this librela, promising me great results. For 2 weeks after, my dog started to pee himself at home when he didnt before librela. Ok, whatever, but whats worse, 3rd week and my dog's leg completely gave up! he went from being active to a disabled dog in matter on hours! He not only unable to step on his leg that was just getting sore from his age but he can't even move it! it puts pressure on his other legs, and he shakes, he is lethargic, cries in pain, and now i have to carry him everywhere he wants to go, including bringing food to his mouth. He lost appetite and now he is on gabapentin and other meds! I went back to vet to compain and was told that its because Librela mad him feel no discomfort and as a result, he became more active, putting more pressure on his sore leg! WOW ok thank you for fooling me like that! evidently i am an idiot in this story, i should have just went the long way and given him supplements. Now, vet tells me my dog needs a surgery! its a rip off! they harm our pets just to create more health issue, more profitable health issues! do NOT even think to consider this medication, i wish someone warned me!

I heard that American vet's use double doses, here in Europe it's very strict.
After my dog got The over 40kg shot it gave her Bad reaction, bloody diarrhea. But If The dose is for less than for 40kg - then she's fine.
    What about Cartrophen? 🤔

Dog benifit from Fasting like humans do
The body is a marvellous things
    Do Ur research
Feed raw feed every other day or ever 3rd day like wild dogs
Put ur emotional baggage to the side apply sense, logic and deserving thought
    The information is out there
Study ur specific dog on different animal proteins make notes on digestion times, emptying out and overall activity levels
Stop asking vet for quick fix out time. In put care in put effort in
Most pet dog owners are lazy and don't deserve to have a dog in the first place

I wouldn't even use this if my dog was at the end. Why would I want my dog to risk all these terrible things and make my dog suffer. Then still need pts. I would just pts before ever trying this injection, without any further suffering.

This information is dangerously misleading. This drug is significantly helping and saving dogs who are otherwise healthy but suffer from severe, debilitating arthritis. While it may not be a first-line treatment for mild or moderate cases, it has been truly life-changing for severe arthritis. Like all medications, it comes with risks, especially in older dogs with other health conditions, but its benefits for severe cases can be substantial.

My vet recommended Librela for my 15 year old Cockapoo. Bindi.
Fortunately I had read about the potential side effects, and promptly declined his recommendation, to which he responded that his wife, who is a veterinary Opthamologist had seen 5 dogs who had SARDS, 3 of whom had been started on Librela that week!
Incase people are not aware, SARDS is a devastating autoimmune condition that causes dogs to become irreversibly blind in a matter of hours. I know how rude and horrible this condition is all too well; my precious Bindi has it. I owe her condition to many years of feeding her processed kibble, and an overwhelming infection caused by a vet who aspirated a lump with a contaminated syringe.
