Let's chat about mental health in grad school: loneliness, imposter syndrome, and burn out

    Everything in this video is spot on! Especially the grad school loneliness part. Grad school is already super isolating and lonely, but under Covid it's nearly unbearable. And the worst part is, even on the rare times when you do get to meet with other people, they're usually in just as terrible of a mood.

      I’ve definitely felt a bit of a page turning with the approach of spring and with the return of classes. Luckily my classes are in person so I do get face to face interaction. The winters in Montana are so dark and long so the return of the sun and daylight has greatly improved my overall mental health. I never had that experience in the past, but my first winter in grad school coinciding with a pandemic did not help. I hope you are doing well in your program and are able to find some joys in either your work and the people you surround yourself with.

      Of course! And this is something a lot of grad students go through. So there’s plenty of people to talk to and lean on which helps a lot!

    As a female engineer, I deal with all of these things!!!! Thank you for sharing - a very important topic that is not candidly talked about enough.

      Thank you so much! Even just talking about it in the video felt relieving. I’ve been making an effort since I filmed it last week to spend more time with my friends and be more candid about my mental health status.
