Apologies for the unbalanced audio, the music is too loud and my voice is too quiet which can make it frustrating to listen to. Unfortunately this was only noticed several days after uploading. Proper audio balancing is now applied to all future videos. Apologies again and thank you for taking the time to watch :D
@@thefalloutwiki Apologies for the delay i have only just seen this. Thanks a lot for your feedback good to hear the audio is OK for some people! Glad you enjoyed it and thanks for watching :)
I just beat this game and wanted explanation on the story which you did an above and beyond job. Thank you so much for this amazing video. Keep up the great work!
I thought the lack of interaction with objects and the odd way of moving were the biggest flaws but was a compelling story even if I still don't really know what it was about.
I have never played this game, but, I have been interested in it since I heard of it's development. It is an embodiment of how I view the world around me. An utterly beautiful, and majestic natural world filled with so much tragedy in the interactions of it's intelligent populace. Sure, we as people, manage to create many wonderful, and beautiful things, but, underlying that is such utter, heartbreaking tragedy as to make a person unravel, and fold, and crumple into a sobbing, heartbroken mess. I don't know about anyone else, but I cried through, almost, the entirety of this video. The music. So lovely, yet deeply sad. The story, so tragic. It feels like such loss as to defy full comprehension even in light of the hints of something better, or something hopeful for everyone in the end. This game. It hurts. Just like the world. It is perfect beauty. Perfect joy. Perfect loss. Perfect tragedy. Perfect rapture.
Thank you for your comment and for watching my video! Indeed life and the universe is a balance, where there is beauty, joy and happiness there must also exist tragedy and sadness. As long as we are able to fully perceive both, we can then fully appreciate the other, and try to focus on the former. The ultimate tragedy is death, which everyone must face in one way or another. The balance of that tragedy is the rapture, and we must tread this difficult path of life before we can get there. Its certainly a beautifully designed game that stirs up so many emotions for all that invested the time to see it :)
This game's alright, but I personally enjoyed Life is Strange a whole lot more. It's just as feely, but it goes at a much faster overall pace than Rapture does.
i hope you eventually found your way to experiencing the full story for yourself. the video does a wonderful job summarizing the key story elements and events but it's another thing to experience every line of dialog being acted in front of you, and exploring the town for yourself.
The girl with the baby at the campsite is one of the most moving scenes i have ever seen in a game i was close to tears especially when you see one of the bombs dropped right outside the building they were in,i thank you for clearing up who died on the train tracks it was bugging me it was never explained or we missed that bit,now i know it makes the other scene even worse that they left their baby to die with a total stranger. The walking pace is too slow we did find the run button but even that is slow it is not something i could play through again but the first time it is a moving story in places with a really great soundtrack.
I agree that point was also one of the most gut wrenching scenes for us too, the game succeeds at stirring up so many emotions in the player its incredible. The speed did also initially put me off but in the end it was well worth the journey :)
I thought that the couple you see in the first chapter (the ones calling for their dog Harvey) were the victims of the train crash. There were suitcases, a shopping trolley and more scattered along the path they were taking, so I assumed they were trying to get out of the valley via back roads and traintracks with their dog. It could have been them too. Diana and Sean could have died because of the infection. I don't mind so much it's not resolved for us, we can guess based on the things the game shows us, even if there are more options :)
I just finished this game and although it was fantastic, I was feeling a little confused about things especially because it's so scattered. Your video cleared a lot of things up. Thank you so much.
Thank you nick, yes you are right i realised the audio in places was too high but didn't notice until several weeks after uploading. Shame i cant edit it without re-uploading, ill make sure i don't make the same mistake for future videos :)
I love this game. The music score is beautiful, I have the CD of it. I've played it a few times and got every trophy. The end of Frank still makes me teary eyed. Lots of people hate it because you can't run or drive cars, but that's not the intention of the game. It's slow paced as you said to get the story. I was sad to hear the Chinese room closed for a while, but saw they are working on another game. It will be hard to beat this to be honest. The graphics are stunning, the villages look picturesque. At the very end of the credits, a set of numbers appear. These numbers are actually a code that when solved leave a message. The message is "In the wake of a human being's death, what survives is a set of afterglows, some brighter and some dimmer, in the collective brains of those dearest to them. There is, in those who remain, a collective corona that still glows - Douglas Hofstadter"
Indeed! A very deep and spiritual game that can only be fully appreciated with patience and exploration. There are so so many elements to unravel within the stories and environments that the developers crammed into the game, its a masterpiece and a joy to experience. Thank you for clarifying the meaning of the numbers that roll at the end of the credits, i didnt know this, im still finding out new things about this game today. Just goes to show how much thought and love went into its creation. I hope the Chinese Room make a big comeback with another gem, we need more games like this.
This video is beautiful, the way you explained everything was so mesmerising, seriously as sad as it is, i just couldnt stop listening until the very end! You pieced everything together so well i didnt realise i missed so much and i took my time to observe everything, please keep making these types of videos!
Having spent hours admiring the scenery which is similar to where I live, but also feeling somewhat lost going around in circles, your presentation brings it all together and also highlights the fact that this is a rich, symbolic & multilayered game which also sets it apart from the others. One point you may have omitted to mention is the fine & spiritually haunting soundtrack that won Jessica Curry a BAFTA. The soundtrack alone, apart from enhancing the atmospheric feel of the game, is a piece of musical art, with the haunting, yet melancholic, voice of the young soprano, to the tight multi-choral harmonies, including the excellent use of the different string sets which together, create a wonderful musical tapestry that one could listen to again and again. Thanks again for your fine overview of what is a beautifully conceived and engaging experience.
Thank you metube for your comment. You are right, i should have given credit in the video to the amazing original soundtrack made by Jessica Curry for the game. It did cross my mind but unfortunately only occurred to me after the video had been up a while. We completely agree with you, the game soundtrack is indeed a masterpiece in itself and a huge credit to the game, further enhancing the experience in every way. Thank you for bringing this up in your comment as its certainly well worth a mention! Glad you enjoyed watching the video :)
Stephen didn't hit Sam with a hammer, he only pushed him away into those boxes racks making the hammer to fall on Sam's head killing him. It was an accident. You can infer all this from the sounds, the words used, and characters personalities.
3 years later, and I am back to this video. There has never been a game that has jerked my feelings this hard. I truly appreciate your dedication to bringing justice to what this games stands for, and for making amazing content as a whole. You have earned a subscriber and my respect.
Indeed one of the very few games that had me deeply engrossed both mentally and emotionally, one that will always be remembered by those that take the time to appreciate whats hidden in its rich environments. Thank you for commenting and your positive feedback as well as your subscription which is massively appreciated! Great to have you on board :)
6 years later I've come back to this explanation video and forgot how depressing it is. Also made me realise how much has changed in my own life since then. I remember watching this video 6 years ago whilst at university studying for the job I'm currently in now. As always great video my friend.
Thanks for coming back after all these years! The story and events still feel as harrowing now, as they did back then. Not many games are remembered like this.
So, the player is Kate? You play as her witnessing the events? That's the biggest puzzle for me, who is the player? Fantastic explanation, there were so many scenes and characters that it was hard to puzzle the stories together full, you did a magnificent job of that. You really got to enjoy this game on it's deepest levels it seems, bravo.
Thank you balbanes1, glad to hear you enjoyed the video! Given the proper time and patience to observe and take things in, the game has incredible depth. Yes it turns out you play as Kate who sees all events in the end, a great twist and ending to a great game.
@@GamerGrade You could also argue you play as the entity that communicates with Kate. The entity that sort of reviews what happened via light silhouettes.
This game is beautiful and amazing. yes the slow walking can be a tiring if you are back tracking (for instance I completely forgot that you needed to move the controller near some lights and only did it the first time instructed put the game down for 1 month came back to and made it to bunker wondering why won't it open untill I watched the beginning of a walk through and was like Noooooooooo) but the walk through this town and countryside is peaceful and beautiful. I found myself looking up through the trees listening to the music speechless. I love piecing together the story which was a great story. This was my game of the year (over all the ps4, xboxone exclusives and 3rd party games) because this is the only game leaving me thinking about it weeks later and looking on youtube for others point of view and searching for things I may have missed. thank you for this commentary it was perfect. especially since you sound like you are from the UK it works to enhance memories of the game. thanks again keep up the good work. I thumbed up and suscribed.
Thank you very much for your Comment, Like and Sub Jason, its great to have you here! Funnily enough i was doing exactly the same thing, several times throughout each section i would find myself breaking away from the story to take in the breathtaking natural environments, music and sounds of nature, the devs done a cracking job in this department. This is why they made the movement slow so you dont miss all their hard work! You're certainly not alone thinking about the game weeks after playing and digging for more info, i think it had the same effect for everyone who truly invested the time to experience and appreciate what the game has to offer. I can understand why some people may find it boring, but if you can get past the slow pace and story focus gameplay, theres a sea of emotions to explore and digest. Yes i am indeed from the UK, which may well have helped me resonate wth the game even more! Glad you enjoyed the video :)
Thank you so much for a great review, helped a lot playing the game. After completing the game in these days on Corona lockdown, I’ve taken to going through it again with the sound turned up and just enjoying strolling around the countryside just wandering with no specific aim, a great way to relax I think.
You are most welcome! Thank you for watching 🙏 It is indeed the perfect game to play for relaxation and immersion, but especially so during the current lockdown! Enjoy 🍻
Thanks for the video. It's a very sad story...haunted me for a while. I think about Kate's words "The pattern is now mine" for a long time, and my theory is that the "pattern" is an entity that merges everyone it absorbs. The villagers all live in the pattern as one now. That's why even if Stephen supposedly is with Lizzie after death, Kate is neither angry nor jealous anymore, because they're all one now. One only feels jealousy when others have something one doesn't have but desire. But in this case, what she desires becomes part of her, so she has no reason be unhappy. And the "pattern" really doesn't seem to be aware that people do not want to be absorbed and live as one, but rather expect to live on as individuals. I imagine it's both naive and ignorant and wants nothing more than reaching out to other live forms (including birds), while the only means it knows it to absorb and hence kill them.
Thank you for sharing your experience Amy, certainly an interesting theory on what the pattern is. Since the pattern is a form of light energy, and light in itself is an infinite ever-lasting singular existence, it certainly makes sense. I agree the game is very haunting during its play but definitely portrays emotions of enlightenment as you draw toward its (open-ended) conclusion.
this was fabulous! id only just today heard of the game and found myself not willing to sit through what looked like a slow play through, and this made it so i could appreciate the story with no downside. thank you so much for your awesome video!! :) you rock!
I think Stephen represents the human denial and defiance of mortality. Kate represents coming to peace with it. We're all dying, and we can view the light as a threat or an inevitable friend... but it's likely that we'll hurt others more when we operate in the fear of denial. We'll make a mess on the way to the end. To be at peace is the goal, since in the end that's all there is.
Certain moments in this game gave me a very str9ng sense of how fleeting our lives are and that we should appreciate every single moment of them. Sometimes, even a munsane momenr in your life can carru its own unique sense of blissful melancholy. Despite knowing that one day we'll all die and face that wternal mystery of the unknown by ourselves, we tend to fall into the trap of believing that our lives will last forever. But, knowing that there will cone an end makes them all the more cherishable. Bad as well as good is part of this unique experience of what we call life. But, we as q species have the luxury of free will
Awesome video. Well done! Actually despite coming to almost the same conclusions I enjoyed the video. + I have noticed the guiding light changing but I never connected it to the chapters... What a sad story!
I'm glad you took the time to make this. It shows that you took the time to absorb yourself in the story which after all is what the game is all about. People say this would be better suited as a movie, I couldn't disagree more, the exploration, depth, and ability to piece together the story based on your own actions is what makes it unique. I truly applaud The Chinese Room for making it as it was a risk and they did it anyway, likely knowing that it would be lost on most gamers who can see beyond something as trivial as the movement speed. Some games are so good the community at large doesn't deserve them. Bravo on an excellent video.
Thank you for your positive feedback Luke, much appreciated 🙏 The real depth comes when you figure all these little details out by exploring, a true masterpiece that only reveals itself to the people that have the patience to appreciate it. Thanks for taking the time to click, watch, and comment :) 🍻
I don't know if it would work as a play or movie, there is a lot of environmental storytelling from things scattered around in the houses and the village as a whole that I'm not sure would really work as a play. I don't think the scenes would need all that much work tbh. A screen with a projected background and two or three characters would work if you keep all the scenes as short as they are in the game. I think the disjointedness of the scenes are what makes it interesting, you need to puzzle together how the story fits and who thinks what of who etc.
Great video, dude! I got this game for free through PS Plus, and I just got around to playing it due to college and whatnot. Rapture looks absolutely amazing and it's clear that art design was a key focal point in the development, but I found the story a bit difficult to follow compared to other games of this genre. Luckily, I found this video to help me tie all the loose ends together.
Thank you outlaws9295! I agree its obvious a lot of time and effort went into designing the games environments which really brings its atmosphere alive. I think they needed to do this since like you mention, the story is slow and segmented, so to keep players engaged the environments needed to be breathtaking to encourage continued exploration. Glad to hear the video helped you piece together the story which was my intention :)
Thank you so much for this well thought out and explained video! I enjoyed the game but felt I was missing the true meaning and found it on this video. Turns out I also missed some interactions as well. Thanks for taking the time to do this because I now have a deeper appreciation for this game!
You are most welcome Luke, glad to hear you enjoyed the video 🙏 The devs crammed in so much to the rich environments, there really is so much you can miss if you dont stop to smell every flower! Thanks for watching 👊
2 days ago I downloaded it for free because every month PlayStation plus has 2 games for free and this being one of them. at first I thought it was gonna be a different game. since the name was Rapture I thought I was gonna play through destructive scenery. but I was wrong. I was confused at first, and then the story was getting interesting. I finished it yesterday and I thought it was amazing. it's basically like a playable novel. it's depressing as hell when u think about it, and it leaves u wondering in the end. with a name like Rapture I thought it was going to be so different tbh. Your vid also helped me understand a bit of the story more So Thank You Ma Dude!
Thank you KIDbuuVSSupersaiyan you are very welcome! I would have thought if anyone was expecting an action game would be seriously disappointed as its a very slow interactive story. I would assume you are a gamer who appreciates indepth stories which is why you ended up enjoying it, glad the video was helpful for you!
Great explanation of the story and I really enjoyed watching this. I'm one of the people that was put off by the slow movement of the game but was really interested in the story line, so this video was perfect for me. Thanks for making it, it was a cracking video.
Thank you very much RCUK OneTwo, you are more than welcome, glad you enjoyed the video! I agree the movement was definitely too slow at times, luckily the story and environments made up for it :)
Thanks for this video. I just played and completed it in 2022. I loved the story and the scenery was amazing. I get that this game was intended to be walked through and not ran through for fear of missing something or the scenery, but at times the pace in which the playable character moved was painful. I would have liked to have moved just a little bit faster. I also had a hard time putting character names to faces (I know there was no faces). As a result, I often got storylines mixed up and couldn't remember who was who. Your video explained a lot. Thank you
I’m here now in 2023 and played through this game and it is one of the most elevated experiences I’ve ever had! Yes it so confusing on so many levels but the whole set up of the game puts you in such a state of focus and as you start to put the pieces together everything is just so evolving. Yes it bothered me that there was “nothing” you could do, or that you would only walk at that speed. But that is the purpose of this game. I finished a couple of days ago, did another play through yesterday (guided) to collect all trophies, and I discovered so much more details the every story. I’m still very moved by this game. And it will be at my top lists. And thank you for this video! It helped me connect even more with the story. I was certain at the end of my first play through that I had ben playing as Kate and that gave me goosebumps!
Thank you for making this video, I have been intrigued about this game for a while but have found that this is not the game for me. If only because it gives no definite or concrete explanation. Because of your video I got to appreciate the story without being disappointed after spending too much time playing.
You are very welcome and thank you for your kind comment FknShaggy G! Glad the video was helpful for you, and exactly the reason why i made it. Detailing the entire story and full back stories in less than half an hour was my aim. Shame i couldn't show the final 3 chapters in the video, but i suppose some would prefer to see those for themselves ;)
Good video, i really enjoyed this game and pretty much knew all of the story, i wanted to play through it again but haven't because of how slow you move as the main character, the first time was fine because everything was new. The music and atmosphere is amazing though, they really nailed a country village in the U.K, i have lived in a few and it is a great depiction.
One thing I really do not understand is if the characters, that is those crude gold figures surrounded by gold spirals are still in the village or not. Also, if they are still in Youghton, to they apprehend each other as they were or as crude gold human-like figures surrounded by gold spirals? None of the dialogue comes close to addressing this. Were these individuals retained to provide sufficient backstory? Of course this begs the question why them, and are they aware that they no longer occupy the village?
Played this with a vr headset on while on lsd. Made perfect sense, was the only time I didnt get lost and noticed certain ques that I was headed in the right direction such as music or certain sounds. Am I saying play this game while on drugs? Pineapple.
@@RowanCharlton I just played the game while wearing the psvr helmet. The game isn't really vr as far as movement but with the headphones in and how realistic the game looks it was really immersive.
Thank you for making this. I got most of the story but you completed the picture for me. Especially with Frank's ending since I missed this entirely. What a game...
just finished this today and then watched this video. Im glad to see we almost saw the entire thing in the same perspective. i was convinced it had something to do with quantum entaglment and dark matter consumed the world or something. Amazing video brother .. really cleared up the rest of the story for me. Thank you
Thank you Eric and you are very welcome. Well dark matter may well be involved somewhere down the line so i wouldnt rule it out entirely ;) Glad the video was helpful for you!
Apologies about that my friend, this was my first video and i wasnt very experienced with balancing audio! Ive now learned how to mix the audio levels properly for a much better end user experience. Unfortunately i cant change the video once its uploaded. Thanks for clicking and trying though 🙏
He told the fox stories of his past every night while trying to nurse him back to health. Then his son goes in to give the fox food and the fox bites his arm. The kid screams and cries to his mom and dad. So his dad grabs his shovel and goes into the basement and beats the fox to death. Later that night the father was found crying in the darkness. His son asks if he is ok and his father says the fox hurt his kin so he had to die. But the fox doesnt understand that. He was dying and afraid. He didnt hurt the kid out of anger or malice. But out of fear and mortality.
GamerGrade I agree. Thanks for breaking everything down so thoroughly by the way. I followed along the story but was still trying to piece everything together after I finished the game. Got yourself a new sub!🖒
The child WAS born though! she was cradling it when they raptured. A lot of people say she was pregnant when she raptured but this is not true, she had the baby sometimes during the events I think?
This was wonderful. And a much better video than the views would suggest. To be honest, every other video I watched on the subject seemed lacking. Not yours though.
Thank you very much for your kind feedback Nyndja! I did become a bit obsessed with the story and wanted to include as much as possible, so glad the video was helpful for you, thanks again :)
Great game and great video. Thanks so much! Always wanted to somehow put it all back together. This game has had a profound impact on me. Can't really shake it off. I find the message a bit bitter but sweet in the end. Even that sad lullaby. In the end the kid found love, no? If you could dig out the words of that lullaby? I tried but failed...
Awesome Everybody's Gone to the Rapture gameplay, great explanation of the storyline too, well done! Excellent effort on your first video, the like button was turned blue for you, take care!
I find it very interesting how this game coincides with the Covid quarantine. Especially since the whole story says that the virus spreads through telephones, radios and televisions. Maybe if the game were situated in a modern era the virus (of fear) would spread through the internet, or social networks, and cell phones
Brilliant video: I played through this twice in the last year, and each time came away with a different understanding, and a different feeling. I find it very interesting your comment on Kate seeing all: this now explains for me who the character is you walk as - I wonder why you cannot see yourself in mirrors or reflections? Perhaps at that point she is one with the light. The attention to detail is right up there with some of the best: right down to things such as the abandoned suitcases at the station, all adds to a feel of "get out of her quickly". What do you think happens subsequently? The Pattern spreads and takes the rest of the world?
Thank you for your positive feedback, much appreciated the support 🙏 There are many theories, although i think Kate has becomes enlightened represented by her conciousness beyond the physical. She no longer resists the inevitable fate of the world, becoming one with it. While others are still trapped in denial and false fear. Yes i think the 'pattern' eventually consumes everything.
A clear summary of a beautiful game... this video made me get that "light bulb moment" a few times, connecting things to what I had learned in the game. Finished the game only today, did a bit of research to try and get a better idea of the story behind it and you have really helped, thank you! One thought I have - is there any link between the time you are trapped in throughout the game (5 days after the primary event), and the numbers read out on TVs dotted around, or the total score on dartboards around the village? For example, I think I heard in part of a sequence from a television transmission "0-6", could this mean the month where the event happens, the 6th month of June? Probably coincidence, but I'm sure the numbers read out on transmissions mean something exactly. Secondly, the light that you follow throughout the game, could that potentially be the Pattern in a different form than the shape seen all over? So the Pattern, which led to the primary event, is showing you as the player how and why each character had met with their terrible fate. This game reminds me of Zelda: Majora's Mask, another game which I think is incredible due to the emotion it can spark within you by the soundtrack, the story and deep messages that could be interpreted. The apocalyptic event, and you learn about many stories of characters around the village before a dreadful, unfortunate event happens. Anyways, this game is very deep and very emotional, and the way this game, this fictional story, connects with the player in the way that it does, gives the player an unforgettable experience.
You are more than welcome crashbandicoot42 glad the video was helpful for you :) Some great theories you have there it sounds like you took in a lot the game had to offer. Yes your assumption of the 6th of June for the Event starting could be possible. The numbers appear in other places too like on a bus stop but displayed as “6 6 84” which would translate as 6th June 1984, also Kate confirms the computers in the observatory are set to 6:07 on June 6th, 1984. Im not sure what else this date would refer to? The specific time 6:07 must also play a part, someone suggested elsewhere that 6:07 may also refer to Genesis Chapter 6 verse 7: “And the LORD said, I will destroy man whom I have created from the face of the earth; both man, and beast, and the creeping thing, and the fowls of the air; for it repenteth me that I have made them." Interesting, Its both good and bad the game has so many open ends for interpretation!
GamerGrade your video opened my eyes a bit more! This game does have a ton to offer, whether it be direct information that you're given or whether you wait to get that light bulb in your head after figuring something out. Like you say, even little details are open to many different interpretations, and for me it makes the game mysterious, beautiful and fascinating. I remember seeing the bus stop signs too, my brain didn't link the dates together! Wow, I never would have thought of your religious theory. This is probably me being me but I love it how things like this occur - these links. They are kinda scary in a way, but makes you say "wow!" In this instance, the link between the time 6:07 and the passage in the Bible, Genesis chapter 6, verse 7. It seems a very good and accurate theory due to the main event that the game is all about; this could link to the fact that, arguably, religion had more of an impact in the 1980s, so it would have made a suitable reference also? The game does focus on Father Jeremy and his "crisis of faith" and his last days in the valley.
I just completed this, I live in Telford and this looks just like smaller villages dotted around Shrewsbury and iron bridge. Love your video and has made me want to replay. Brilliant video and excellent work, subbed and working my way through the game!
The atmosphere is superb and represents a small village in that area of the UK very well. Glad to hear you enjoyed the video and it encouraged you to play the game again, no doubt you will spot many interesting things you missed the first time round like it did for me, enjoy! Your Sub is massively appreciated, thank you kindly for your support :) 🙏
@@GamerGrade the simple fact you responded to my message on an old video shows so much class, I appreciate it! Have you considered doing this type of video with Limbo or inside?
Thank you Rob :) It makes no difference to me if its an old video or a new one! You took the time to click and watch as well as comment AND subscribe to my channel, so the least i can do is reply with my genuine gratitude 🙏 I've been meaning to cover other game stories similar to the ones you mentioned, but thus far sadly never found the time. Hopefully sometime in the near future 🍻
I think this pattern represents the absolute state of matter before universe was born. Everything was in order and complete harmony but for life to exist in a manner we comprehend there should be entropy and disorder. With all the hatred, sadness, diseases, pain and such stuff. I never was goal oriented enough to understand a story in detailes. Thank you for such thorough analysis.
I agree, these narrative driven games can really immerse you emotionally at a deeper level than other genres if you connect well with the story/environments. Well worth the time playing them :)
Replayed this fine game after 6 years, and I know they wanted the player to move slowly to appreciate the surroundings, but it's too damn slow. Even the shift to walk faster is painfully slow. After all this time, the devs haven't bothered to release a patch, considering there are still some annoying bugs that need sorting, especially the frame rate issues. Aside from that, one of the few walking sim games that I rate very highly. The music and art direction really connected with me.
Thank you kindly dav3bassman, much appreciated! I havent played Life is Strange but have seen and heard many good things about it, thanks for the recommendation :)
Apologies for so many comments, but I have to ask: is there a definite explanation at the end of the game? That is the only thing that would potentially ruin my experience! I actually enjoy the story, but it is the possibility of no explanation that would disappoint me after hours of playing. (as you can probably tell, your video encouraged me to keep going!) thanks in advance!
Unfortunately i cant really give a definite answer although i would love to! The devs purposefully left the games ending open to interpretation without a definitive conclusion or meaning. However, this was intentional as it means players can take from the game something unique to themselves. The experience of slowly unravelling the villages story was deeply intriguing in itself which i think was their main aim. Ultimately, the rapture is a place where we all inevitably end up, and no matter what tragedies the path of life presents us, there will always be peace, pleasure and joy for all who choose to see. I hope in some small way, this may help :)
So nice to play a game that's not actually set in America for a change and has no guns in it! The designers really did a grand job recreating a typical English village. Kind of felt like Quatermass meets The Archers (I changed that from ET to make it sound more British and tbh most of the Quatermass stuff I've seen have had some vagueness to them just like this.)
I never forgot the feelings this game made me, well, feel. It was such a heartbreaking story. And my god that campsite scene when the bombs went off was painful.
Thanks for the amazing break down. I thought this game was awesome a kind of life changing experience sort of thing. I am an emotional, empathetic, thinker so this game had me crying loads but wow. It gets you thinking that's for sure. It actually was exactly what I needed when I needed it. I am changing the world with positivity, leaving my strip of light.
I'm guessing the dev,s don't know what the rapture is. at least not by the biblical meaning. the rapture is when all who truly gave there life to Jesus and they "disappear" when they go to heaven. and everyone else (nonbelievers) are Left behind (like the movie) and the light in the sky is Jesus returning. and the ones who "disappear" don't get sick and die. but I don't think this was meant to be a Christian game so...
Thanks for the feedback Wes, i did feel the ones taken were at peace and even though the game doesnt push a religious theme, it still allows the player to make a connection between the rapture and heaven. Something to be embraced and definitely not to be feared :)
Wes Wesley just my interpretation but this seemed very spiritual to me. It seemed like in the end everyone has forgiven each other for their sins. Though I'm here because I was somewhat confused lol
Well, it's pretty old but I just found this recently on the Playstation store. A superb 'interactive movie' as I think of it. Appreciate your thoughts and explanations on this.... definitely a few 'oh yeah' moments for me!. Last thoughts... Isn't this just about the most prosperous village you've ever seen? No cottages as such, every house seems like a mansion.... with enough garden to host a village fete!. PS The audio was fine to my ears.
I actually loved this game. Only thing I didn’t like, was the explanation of intracranial hypertension, which I actually have. It’s not contagious, it is very painful, and a shunt is needed to help with those who have severe symptoms, for me I’ve had 25 brain surgeries due to this condition and still not dead. Only way someone would die from this condition is if it was left untreated for a number of weeks/months which also causes blindness too. I know this isn’t the overall reason for the game but, it was when the recording was found at in the car and it mentioned it and I just felt some people may want to know what it actually means
And yet the possibility that the entity was deceiving people still remains. If everyone has an "other" and they see that "other" when they become part of the light then its strange that Stephen saw Kate in the light instead of Lizzie. Some could say its because she was a part of it and she was looking at him thru it but if that were true then he didnt see his other when it took him and it must have taken hi even if he burned since it also took Mary even though she died a year earlier unless it just shows you what you want to see. Anyone seeing a pattern to this yet? Personally I think the story is about a devious monster that needed to be stopped and killed and preferably made to suffer unspeakable pain before it goes. I like to think that it didnt succeed in wiping out the world and someone stopped it from spreading further before finding a way to kill it or trap it for eternity.
I managed to beat the game without playing Lizzie’s chapter :(. There was a path and one led to Liz’s and the other led to Stephens. So I chose Stephens first and towards the end of his chapter it leads to a tunnel. And I didn’t know it was the ending and after that scene it jumped me into Kate’s, and I couldn’t go back and Do Liz’s
I don't know how much I missed out because I went down the tunnel as soon as I found it. It's a shame there was no load game option to let you go back to previous save games.
I only did 2 or 3 chapters then I just went to Steven's bunker hahha this game was so buggy and broken. It's sad because this game had so much potential and it is beautiful
something i have to ask. in the game, what are we? what are we controlling through the whole game? at first i managed to think that we were Kate exploring the valley without any memories in one of the radios she tells that she is losing his memories so she repeats saying her name. but in the end nothing turns up clear so, what are we?..
Rocket Games you are right, nothing is for sure and is open for interpretation, but I believe your initial assumption of the player experiencing everything through Kate is the most tangible. The game suggests that Kate exists as part of the pattern and because of this she is able to "see everything" that goes on in the valley. Also Steven mysteriously sees Kate in the pattern just before he dies, being the closest character to being her significant other it makes sense why he is the only one able to see her.
it totally is. I think the reason why this game is so horrifying is the fact, that everything inside the game seems familiar to us. It is a countryside almost everybody of us know somehow. A place, where most of us probably live or at least been to once. The whole scenario is absolutely real, especially with these outstanding graphics ( which are even for 2020 an absolute blast!) Combined with the thread(s) and intimate moments with all those characters, we can feel with them even if we only see fragments of their thoughts. It does not need monsters or ghosts to wake up fear inside a person. The whole atmosphere of EGTTR is filled with an oppressive sadness. You are definitely not alone.
I just completed the game as well. Had to see your video the get all together thou haha. Just wondering do you actually play as Kate during the game and is it Kate that make Stephan drop the lighter ?
Hey Adam thanks for watching my video! Yes your assumption does indeed make sense and Kate would seem to be who the player is controlling, since she has already become part of the pattern when Stephen sees her in it. The pattern happens to be Kate's 'significant other' and she is able to 'see everything', while everyone else's significant other in the game is a person. This isnt really explained why but just seems to be the case.
Yeah thats the only negative, the pace is too slow, it 'forces' you to take everything in. You have to really schedule the hours to play it patiently or exploration can be frustrating. But if you do allow the time, then its a beauty to take in.
The way I played it was to just play from one save point to the next and then quit for the day. I also used it as a way to cool down after playing adrenaline fuelled games like Warhammer Vermintide.
Whatever it it is, it's not a game. It's the videogame equivalent of a scripted theme park ride with no options. Either you hit all the marks and get the Rapture or you miss some and don't. It's not even the equivalent of a maze game where at some point you can go left or right or up or down, etc.
I’ve just played it and needed to know more, it’s so open ended u stumble upon things in all sorts of different orders, movements SO SLOW! :( but graphics are photorealistic I wanna live there! :) I do love a good yarn and this games certainly an interesting story alright and well voice acted. The vicar helping Mary take her life was powerful as imo he helped her, we take our pets to be put to sleep if there’s no hope as it’s the best thing to do it’s kind and yet we allow ppl to suffer until the very end! Makes no sense to me personally. Also throwing the race card in the game was tacky
Thanks for sharing your insightful experience Mark! There's always something deep and meaningful to be found, but only by players who take the time to look for it. Glad you enjoyed the game and video 👊
fuck it im not gonna spend 10$ on a game im gonna play once beat then NEVER EVER play again under ANY circumstances. So i'll just watch somebody else spoil it and move on. Save some money...
Apologies for the unbalanced audio, the music is too loud and my voice is too quiet which can make it frustrating to listen to. Unfortunately this was only noticed several days after uploading. Proper audio balancing is now applied to all future videos. Apologies again and thank you for taking the time to watch :D
GamerGrade I thought it sounded ok :)
I prefer this, to the actual game play. It would be a great movie, with the right people, to stray from remakes and crippling nostalgia
Thank you Jayyy667, I did find the actual gameplay movement a tad too slow which i can see putting many players off. Glad you enjoyed the video :)
The gameplay is about immersion, if you fail to immerse yourself and connect things on your own you will fail in enjoying the game.
It's just as feely, but it goes at a much faster overall pace than Rapture does.
its
i hope you eventually found your way to experiencing the full story for yourself. the video does a wonderful job summarizing the key story elements and events but it's another thing to experience every line of dialog being acted in front of you, and exploring the town for yourself.
Thanks for taking the time to watch and comment!
Word
Thanks, you explained everything better then all the other videos, this deserves more views than the other videos. Thanks again.
You are very welcome Richard, thank you for your kind comment its great to have your feedback, glad the video was helpful :)
Richard Rojas i totally agree
Thank you Milo !! :)
Yeah, except when the shitty music drowns out the damn audio of EVERYTHING ELSE
I just finished this game and although it was fantastic, I was feeling a little confused about things especially because it's so scattered. Your video cleared a lot of things up. Thank you so much.
You are very welcome Sparklehorse glad the video was helpful for you :)
Great work here. Consider lowering the background music for a smoother voice audio.
Thanks for watching!
You have a good voice and a nice flow to the way you speak. Don't ruin your videos with a generic dubstep intro and "HELLO GAMERS."
Thanks for your comment and feedback, helps a lot thanks!
This video is beautiful, the way you explained everything was so mesmerising, seriously as sad as it is, i just couldnt stop listening until the very end! You pieced everything together so well i didnt realise i missed so much and i took my time to observe everything, please keep making these types of videos!
Thank you kindly for your comment and feedback Teddy, i will make sure to keep making videos like this, glad you enjoyed :)
Yaughton is not a real place however i have been to the real life counterpart and i have to say its amazing how well they mapped it out
We agree Declan, the attention to detail and atmosphere is very authentic!
Truly Loved this video you did a wonderful job with while narrating you got yourself a sub keep up the amazing work man
You are truly welcome darkharvest45 really happy you enjoyed the video, and thank you kindly for subbing great to have you here buddy!
Thank you so much for a great review, helped a lot playing the game. After completing the game in these days on Corona lockdown, I’ve taken to going through it again with the sound turned up and just enjoying strolling around the countryside just wandering with no specific aim, a great way to relax I think.
You are most welcome! Thank you for watching 🙏
It is indeed the perfect game to play for relaxation and immersion, but especially so during the current lockdown! Enjoy 🍻
I just finished the game but I'm going to replay it and just wander around because I'm sure I missed out on loads of places.
Thanks for piecing it all together. I definitely missed the forest through the trees before listening to this.
You're welcome, there is a lot you can easily miss in this game, glad the video helped :)
A legend's first video.
So it's like "Futurama: The Beast with a Billion Backs"? That actually does help me understand better :) thanks.
this was fabulous! id only just today heard of the game and found myself not willing to sit through what looked like a slow play through, and this made it so i could appreciate the story with no downside. thank you so much for your awesome video!! :) you rock!
Thanks so much for the feedback and support! 🙏
To this day the greatest walking simulator of all time.
This is a great analogy and makes a lot of sense. Thanks for sharing 🍻
Thank you Random Videos! Glad you enjoyed watching :)
Thank you for your positive feedback Luke, much appreciated 🙏
The real depth comes when you figure all these little details out by exploring, a true masterpiece that only reveals itself to the people that have the patience to appreciate it.
Thanks for taking the time to click, watch, and comment :) 🍻
This would make a great stage play. They'd have to find a way to reconcile the disjointed scenes that happen with each main character's section.
beautiful idea!
I think the disjointedness of the scenes are what makes it interesting, you need to puzzle together how the story fits and who thinks what of who etc.
lol on a comical note - this reviewer sounds like he belongs in the game (shortly after playing and finishing this game)
Indeed i am from the UK :)
You are most welcome Luke, glad to hear you enjoyed the video 🙏
The devs crammed in so much to the rich environments, there really is so much you can miss if you dont stop to smell every flower!
Just finished playing this amazing and thoughtful game. Great explanation of everything, you cleared up some things I had missed!
So glad to hear you enjoyed the video, the game has many dark hidden secrets to uncover! 😱
Thanks for watching 🙏
Had to stop playing this game because my light completely disappeared and I didn’t have a clue what I was doing so glad I found this video
Glad to hear you enjoyed the video! Thanks for watching :) 🙏
Thank you
You're most welcome Nick, i completely agree! Thank you for watching and sharing your experience 🍻
Also, your narration is brilliant!
Thank you The BadMan, glad you enjoyed the video!
Same questions here. I loved the concept but felt like the unanswered endings just irritated me.
Played this with a vr headset on while on lsd. Made perfect sense, was the only time I didnt get lost and noticed certain ques that I was headed in the right direction such as music or certain sounds. Am I saying play this game while on drugs? Pineapple.
😂😂😂
How do you get it in VR?
@@RowanCharlton I just played the game while wearing the psvr helmet. The game isn't really vr as far as movement but with the headphones in and how realistic the game looks it was really immersive.
Thank you for making this. I got most of the story but you completed the picture for me. Especially with Frank's ending since I missed this entirely. What a game...
You're most welcome! Thanks for your feedback and for watching 🙏
just finished this today and then watched this video.
The piano music was a mistake. I can’t hear you through it, so I can’t continue. Sorry.
Awesome video, +1sub! :)
Thank you very much purple GAMES! :)
Holy shit I thought the globe accompanying Lizzy was Rachel
not her unborn child! I'm depressed 😪😂
Yep it is indeed her baby, very sad indeed :(
GamerGrade I agree. Thanks for breaking everything down so thoroughly by the way. I followed along the story but was still trying to piece everything together after I finished the game. Got yourself a new sub!🖒
You are very welcome Milton glad you enjoyed the video. Thanks a lot for the sub, great to have you onboard :)
I don't even think anyone died from the gas drop on the town becuase the pattern got to them frost before the nerves gas did...
IM NOT CRYING! *wipes tears*
Dont worry you're in good company here ;)
Great game and great video.
You're most welcome! Everyone ultimately finds peace and love in the end :) 💯
Awesome Everybody's Gone to the Rapture gameplay, great explanation of the storyline too, well done! Excellent effort on your first video, the like button was turned blue for you, take care!
Thank you kindly my friend much appreciate the positive feedback! Glad you enjoyed the video 🙏
Respect 👊
thank you for explaining. I played it through some minutes before, and i didnt understand everything. thank you for explaning
You are very welcome Mr.Raymann, glad the video was helpful :)
I find it very interesting how this game coincides with the Covid quarantine. Especially since the whole story says that the virus spreads through telephones, radios and televisions.
Maybe if the game were situated in a modern era the virus (of fear) would spread through the internet, or social networks, and cell phones
Love this take on the story, especially how it relates to our current situation, thanks for sharing :)
If it happened in this era, we would see ppl destroying 5G towers lol smh
Brilliant video: I played through this twice in the last year, and each time came away with a different understanding, and a different feeling.
I find it very interesting your comment on Kate seeing all: this now explains for me who the character is you walk as - I wonder why you cannot see yourself in mirrors or reflections? Perhaps at that point she is one with the light.
The attention to detail is right up there with some of the best: right down to things such as the abandoned suitcases at the station, all adds to a feel of "get out of her quickly".
What do you think happens subsequently? The Pattern spreads and takes the rest of the world?
Thank you for your positive feedback, much appreciated the support 🙏
There are many theories, although i think Kate has becomes enlightened represented by her conciousness beyond the physical. She no longer resists the inevitable fate of the world, becoming one with it. While others are still trapped in denial and false fear. Yes i think the 'pattern' eventually consumes everything.
dahm. great job friend. very well articulated..
Thank you very much Olass Gafaru glad you enjoyed the video :)
You took the time to click and watch as well as comment AND subscribe to my channel, so the least i can do is reply with my genuine gratitude 🙏
I've been meaning to cover other game stories similar to the ones you mentioned, but thus far sadly never found the time. Hopefully sometime in the near future 🍻
Who wrote this brilliant video ? in the notes it says kirk hamilton, but someone called Jay responded in the comments.

Thanks for watching!
You're most welcome! Thanks for sharing your experience and for watching 🍻
EG2TR was my first narrative game ever. It opened up the entire genre 4 me.i fell in love with this whole game.
I agree, these narrative driven games can really immerse you emotionally at a deeper level than other genres if you connect well with the story/environments. Well worth the time playing them :)
Awesome! Keep it up man!
Thanks very much Ozzy!
1 Thessalonians 4:13-18
this was an amazing explanation
Thank you hassan abdul, glad you enjoyed the video!
good work m8
Thank you Lord Wahrscheinlich™, glad you enjoyed the video :)
Been a year or so since I played this and it was nice to be reminded how goddamn beautiful this game is.
Completely agree TMAH!
Excellent video man! I'd highly highly recommend life is strange to anyone who enjoyed this
Thank you kindly dav3bassman, much appreciated! I havent played Life is Strange but have seen and heard many good things about it, thanks for the recommendation :)
GamerGrade no probs bro :) your style of commentary and analysis would make for an excellent life is strange video
@@dav3bassman Thank you brother, means a lot 🙏
Wow I knew I missed some, but I missed more than i expected.
I never forgot the feelings this game made me, well, feel. It was such a heartbreaking story. And my god that campsite scene when the bombs went off was painful.
I agree! 💯
The character that we played as walking around the village was actually Kate. You can see that in the final cutscene of the game.
You're most welcome Anna, glad to hear you enjoyed the video :)
Keep spreading that positivity, the more the better 💯
There's an eclipse like in the trailer for this game happening June 21st and think about everything that's been happening in the world lately
never saw a game purely story before.. masterpiece
Fantastic video, especially the Kate story. Thanks.
Paul, a bond-servant of Christ Jesus, called as an apostle, set apart for the gospel of God.
Thank you Eric, glad you enjoyed the video :)
Well, it's pretty old but I just found this recently on the Playstation store. A superb 'interactive movie' as I think of
it. Appreciate your thoughts and explanations on this.... definitely a few 'oh yeah' moments for me!. Last thoughts...
Isn't this just about the most prosperous village you've ever seen? No cottages as such, every house seems like a
mansion.... with enough garden to host a village fete!. PS The audio was fine to my ears.
Thanks for sharing your experience and for watching Barrie! 🍻
Fantastic video
Thanks for watching my friend, glad you enjoyed :)
Thanks for sharing this information Lisa, i did not know that. I hope your condition has been improving 🙏
Thanks for sharing this interesting perspective! 👍
I wasnt aware of this at all, very strange its possible to skip a complete Chapter, thanks for confirming!
Thanks for the video. What can be said about the butterfly-like symbols used to mark buildings?
Ashur deKelaita its the burn that stephen and kate have
something i have to ask.
in the game, what are we? what are we controlling through the whole game?
at first i managed to think that we were Kate exploring the valley without any memories
in one of the radios she tells that she is losing his memories so she repeats saying her name.
but in the end nothing turns up clear
so, what are we?..
Am I the only one that found the story horrifying?
Nope, you are certainly not alone!
it totally is.
I wouldn't call it horrifying but certainly unsettling.
Best game I Eva played guys
I just completed the game as well. Had to see your video the get all together thou haha. Just wondering do you actually play as Kate during the game and is it Kate that make Stephan drop the lighter ?
Hey Adam thanks for watching my video! Yes your assumption does indeed make sense and Kate would seem to be who the player is controlling, since she has already become part of the pattern when Stephen sees her in it. The pattern happens to be Kate's 'significant other' and she is able to 'see everything', while everyone else's significant other in the game is a person. This isnt really explained why but just seems to be the case.
alright! thanks for an awesome video man !
Thanks for save my time! :D
Most welcome my friend! Thanks for watching 🙏
Maybe this game is meant to represent a spiritual journey just a guess
Yeah i can see the relation, its all about becoming more than the physical world.
Thank you 🙂
Glad you enjoyed the video Sandesh! Thanks for commenting and watching my friend 🙏
This game make me wanna pull on my hiking boots and go hiking around this beautiful countryside or ride my horse around it 😊
Being able to hike and horse ride around such a beautiful country side can only be nourishing for the mind and soul! 😍
@@GamerGrade it sure is
🌲🌻💯
Considering they were first found in space and didn’t realize that they were hurting humans as if they’re curious, I think The Pattern are aliens.
Indeed, definitely a possibility!
Gosh just played this game today and wish u could sprint as u walk like a snail and need to explore loads
Yeah thats the only negative, the pace is too slow, it 'forces' you to take everything in. You have to really schedule the hours to play it patiently or exploration can be frustrating. But if you do allow the time, then its a beauty to take in.
@@GamerGrade i did take it in and it was amazing but this video was better than playing it it showed me the correct order as i was getting confused
Yeah if you're limited on time then watching a video is more productive and to the point!
Glad you enjoyed watching 🙏
The way I played it was to just play from one save point to the next and then quit for the day. I also used it as a way to cool down after playing adrenaline fuelled games like Warhammer Vermintide.
i notice the orbs personalities too
Whatever it it is, it's not a game. It's the videogame equivalent of a scripted theme park ride with no options. Either you hit all the marks and get the Rapture or you miss some and don't. It's not even the equivalent of a maze game where at some point you can go left or right or up or down, etc.
Okay so if the characters were talking about are dead who are we playing as??? Also is everyone really gone becuase the orbs is pretty much them
You are playing as Kate who sees everything, the enlighened one who does not fear the end of the world, but has become one with it.
@@GamerGrade ohhh I see thank you I wasn't sure I thought we were the light creatures
The English village I live in post Corona!
Haha will see you there my friend!
Glad the video was helpful :)
Son Of MAN its free now
the game is free on PSN right now
