Great work Kent, love the pecan.
Thank you, Mark. Yes, pecan is good! ;) Happy Turning!
For a functional bowl, I think the wide base really works; it looks sturdy. The wood is certainly beautiful, too!
Thanks, yes, I really like smaller bases but for this that wouldn't work. Happy Turning!
Great job! Beautiful grain.

Nice project I think even after not turning for over twenty years I could manage that and I did mostly spindle turning, alas I only watch these days.
Cool, thanks Lewis. Happy Turning!

Awesome video, really enjoy watching, especially appreciate you showing how you sharpen! You explain everything really well! I can’t wait to learn how to do this! Stay safe
Thank you, Chippy! All the best to you and Happy Turning!
How do you remove dust out of the grain of the wood?
Brush or Air compressor. Happy Turning!
Kent, do you heat up the finish, or is it keeper i a warmer room. Nice bowl.
Room temp works well. No need to heat. Happy Turning!
Excellent, educational and entertaining. Thanks for another great video! It seems you use mainly 2 bowl gouges, 5/8" and 1/2". Any reason for more? Do you use a bottom feeder for deeper bowls? A 40/40 ever? I know that you prefer the swept-back grind (as do I), but as I'm learning, I sometimes want a bottom feeder.
David, great question. I always say use the tool you prefer. I like the swept-back bowl gouge and the micro bevel the most. Check out this video. ua-cam.com/video/OvMUViCcSjc/v-deo.html All the best to you and Happy Turning!
Thanks, kent...Kent... really love thst finish, I crested my own beeswax mineral oil finish for a food grade dough bowl, I didn't really get that sheen you did. Perhaps the linseed makes the difference?
Good for you for trying. I buy my from Tried and True. I'll let them be chemists. ;) All the best to you and Happy Turning!
I really like this bowl and your videos. Do you have one that helps you identify the types of wood?
Not specifically. We cover that a bit in my Tree to Bowl online course www.TurnAWoodBowl.com/green There are several smartphone apps that can ID photos of leaves, bark, and wood grain. Some get pretty close. Happy Turning!
Hi Kent. I’ve seen videos where the presenter grabs a handful of wood shavings and uses these to burnish the article afterwards, rather than sanding. What’s your opinion on this practice?
That can be done, but I wouldn't do that on uncured oil. The dust will get into the oil finish. Once cured, perhaps. Happy Turning!
Hi Kent, what are you using it for signing?
I use a woodburner Marek. Check out the finishing section at www.TurnAWoodBowl.com/gear Happy Turning!
What type of four jaw chuck do you use?
Check out my Recommended Gear guide Deb www.TurnAWoodBowl.com/gear All the best to you and Happy Turning!
After applying the beeswax/linseed oil mix, do you let it dry and then polish it? Or is it just the one step? Looks very nice.

Nice bowl, Kent.
Why do you usually leave the edge of your bowls flat, instead of making it round?
I prefer to make mine round, as it is nicer to look, hold and eat from, in my opinion.
I also prefer not to leave any foot at the bottom of my bowls, as I like seeing the classic look, when the curve of the exterior becomes the bottom.
I guess it is a matter of style and personal preference.
Yes, you got it. It's all what you like. All the best to you and Happy Turning!

Just a PSA, good idea to avoid putting pictures of your keys online. It is fairly straightforward to create and 3D print copies from photos.
Interesting. Thanks for sharing. I'll blur them in the future. ;) Happy Turning!
Pe-can lol
I was inspired a while ago to try the beeswax/linseed oil finish you mention, but not for bowls. I made my own blend and used it to finish some speakers with hardwood front panels. The results were absolutely gorgeous, as well as durable and resilient. Thanks for the great videos!
That is awesome! Thank you for writing and sharing Michael. Happy Turning!
