I certainly can't argue with how effective that was against that mini-boss, but I tend to prefer a Swift Blade and Breather approach to most things, myself. Now that I've beaten the game, I want to try a more exotic build like Steely, Reciprocation, Divine Hand, Qi Swipe, and Swift Descent with the Full Control spell style. Something important to note that the game doesn't mention is that with Steely active, any damage you take while charging a Talisman will be internal damage. The idea is that while you rack up boatloads of Qi to fuel 5-Qi Talismans, you'll be taking tons of internal damage. Then with Reciprocation and Divine Hand you transfer all that internal damage to the enemy. Might be a bit dangerous, though.
So I've been trying that build against Eigong with absolutely horrid results, lol. You're basically sitting at 1 HP constantly because of Qi Swipe. It seems doable, but by somebody with a much higher skill level than me.
Ha, the speedy slashing style might well be much faster, I've seen some boss battle speed runners use it! But I generally gravitate more towards slow and heavier attacks, plus here I also have my parrying key under a strong finger and my attacking key under a weaker finger, so attack mashing feels physically a bit annoying. So cool they added Memories of Battle, right :-)) Yeah, the internal damage strats really almost force you into no-hit running, which def is doable with patience! Enjoy the experimentation :-D
@@BattleFolly Yeah, I saw your key bindings in the other comment thread, and I was hit with a wave of nostalgia. I played a lot of PC gaming and emulation back in the 90s, and I never did graduate to using WASD for movement. I can definitely see where furiously mashing attack would be a bit awkward for you, and all the heavy attack jades certainly put in some work. I'm actually a bit jealous that the heavy charge jade only uses one Qi as opposed to Qi Blade costing two Qi. And yes, Memories of Battle was an excellent addition, especially for us inferior console players who didn't have access to the mod for it, lol. As an aside, which spell style do you typically use? I was all in on Water Flow for my entire playthrough, but I'm beginning to think that's just a crutch.
@@WolfyRagnarok Oh, are you too from the DOS games era? Good times playing mostly Epic MegaGames and Apogee shareware :-P Yeah, I too like Water Flow a lot! The detonation itself does the least amount of damage out of the three, but it still converts internal damage into direct damage. This is great, since I also really like the Unbounded Counter, which does significant amounts of internal damage. And in turn the fact that you don't need to hold the Talisman for detonation creates extra opportunities to wind up an Unbounded, so I think those two were designed for each other!
@@BattleFolly Aye, the DOS days were grand, and games like Heretic still hold up well today! (I also still enjoy text adventures like Zork and Hitchhiker's.) Wow, you make a great point about Water Flow. With all the experimentation I've been doing I totally lost sight of how valuable that can be when Eigong's windows of opportunity tend to be so tight. I've been killed numerous times in testing while trying to dump a 5-Qi Talisman on her. Steely Jade will totally ignore her sword slashes, but her very common quick-wakeup-into-a-talisman overrides it completely.
@@BattleFolly how did you set up the keyboard controls? I started playing on keyboard and i use W,A,S,D for movement, SPACE for jumping, and 4,5,6,0 on the numpad for attack, bow, parry and talisman respectively.
@@zygmuntkiller8224 Ha nice :-)) I never could get used to W-A-S-D for directions, so for that I use the arrows under my right hand. And under my left hand I have SHIFT-A-S-D-F-SPACE for bow-attack-jump-parry-talisman-dodge resp., where the index finger does both parry and talisman.
@@BattleFolly First of all you have great skills 👍 I cant play with movement controls on my right hand. I grew up playing on consoles (nes), where movement controls are always on the left hand :) Btw i forget to add that my dodge is on the left shift. I asked because i feel that my setup isnt ideal. I never use talisman - its hard for me to get into the habit of pressing 0 on the numpad with my thumb. Your parry and talisman controls are clever - talisman is next to parry, so its much easier to execute those combinations by sliding your finger over. I havent finished the game yet, im at the JI bossfight. I really like this game, especially the boss fights and the parry system. Bosses are great!
@@zygmuntkiller8224 Yo, thank you 😊But without Talisman, you're playing in HARD mode! Particularly once you have the unbounded counter, you do significant amounts of internal damage that only convert to real damage after a Talisman detonation. Perhaps indeed it would help to put Talisman under the 1? Good luck and enjoy the rest of this amazing game :-DD

Dealing internal damage on parries is far better. Better if you do a 5-Qi talisman explosion and some arrows .Charged strikes are not efficient.
You don't need a Jade to deal internal damage with an unbounded counter.
wait are you playing keyboard/mouse?
Keyboard only! Always actually :-))

I disagree
Which one(s) would you change? :-)
All of them
