everyone knows that pay as you go is opex (operationa expenditure). but reserved VM instances are CAPEX.
according to MS:
"A reserved instance is where you pay upfront for the use of a virtual machine for a period of time (1 or 3 years). This can save you money as you receive a discount on the cost of a VM if you pay upfront for a reserved instance. However, as this is an upfront payment, it will be classed as CapEx, not OpEx."

Adam, great course! Just one question. you are paying for VM b(or SQL) base on using. what does it mean? you pay for it, whet it is running, or when someone is connected to it(for example via RDP)? So in first case, when I don't need it I can shut it off and I will not pay for it? (for example when I need some test virtual machine occasionally.
Thanks Peter! Let me answer by taking a step back, as it might help you understand pricing for other services too. You pay for things that requirement Microsoft to use their Compute, Storage or Networking capacity. So if you buy a VM you reserve a compute capacity, hence as long as this VM is running you will be paying because Microsoft reserved X mount of Cores and Y amount of memory for you, so they can't sell it to other customers. So if you use VM or if you don't, you still pay the same as long as the VM is running because you reserved capacity. But if you shut it down (deallocate using stop button) it will release those resources hence you stop paying. It's like you would rent a laptop from someone, they don't have if you use it, they just charge you hourly rate for that laptop.

OpEx is just a financing model. Consumption based model is one of the models of purchasing services which supports OpEx.

I used exam skills measured PDF to prepare agenda and the topics so I'm hoping it will cover everything :) I will go and attend az-900 myself to make sure all topics are covered too.

I'm not an AWS spec so can't tell you that. Most AWS vs Azure comparisons that I found are very biased. Didn't found any which very well covers both. I work in Azure for over 6 years now, so no, I did not attend the exam as I don't really need to. But I did buy practice tests from various websites and read the course online to ensure that my content prepares for exam very well. :) I will attend exam just to prove this course prepares for it after I finish it.
